Woman, 52, dies in horror crash with lorry and car as Scots road remains locked down

WOMAN has died and a man is in hospital following a horror crash involving a lorry.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on the A947 Aberdeen to Banff road, just north of Oldmeldrum, Aberdeenshire, earlier this morning.

Police have issued an appeal for those who might have been in the area[/caption]

The collision involved a red Fiat 500 car and a white Scania HGV lorry.

The driver of the Fiat, a 52-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her next of kin have been informed.

The 60-year-old male driver of the lorry was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

His condition is not yet known.

The road remains closed while collision investigators examine the scene.

Police Scotland are appealing for witnesses who may have additional information or dash-cam footage of the incident.

They also extended their gratitude to members of the public who assisted at the scene and expressed sympathy for the families affected by the tragic event.

Sergeant Sarah Ritchie of the North East Road Policing Unit said “Our thoughts are with the families of those involved and I would like to thank members of the public who stopped and assisted at the scene.

“Our enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing, however, I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time who may have seen the crash or the two vehicles prior to the incident to get in touch.


“I would also ask anyone with footage to check it and pass on any relevant images.”
