Woman, 20s, rushed to hospital following horror car crash in east Belfast as PSNI appeal for camera footage

A WOMAN in her 20s has been seriously injured following a horror road crash.

PSNI officers in Northern Ireland are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision in east Belfast.

Cops and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service rushed to the scene on Friday, March 14 following reports of a car crash in the Grand Parade area of the city.

The incident occurred at around 7.05pm last night.

A pedestrian, a woman in her 20s, was rushed to hospital following the crash.

Inspector Reynolds said: “A report was received at approximately 7.05pm on Friday evening, 14th March that a pedestrian was involved in a collision with a car in the Grand Parade area of the city.

“Officers attended, alongside colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.

“Medical treatment was provided at the scene, and the pedestrian, aged in her 20s, was transported to hospital for treatment to her injuries.”

The road was closed off for a time but has reopened to traffic today.

The PSNI have urged for any witness to come forward, particularly those who may have dash-cam footage of the incident.

Reynolds added: “Meanwhile, the road which was closed for a time has since reopened to traffic.

“We would ask anyone who was travelling in the area to review dash-cam footage they may have captured and call us on 101 with any information. The reference number is 1498 14/03/25.”

A report can also be made using the online reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport

SEPARATE INCIDENT

Separately, police in Northern Ireland are investigating a potential Islamist terrorist link to a stabbing in Belfast earlier this month.

Religious ideology is one of a number of potential motives being investigated, the PA news agency understands.

If it is confirmed, it would be Northern Ireland’s first Islamist terrorist incident.

Detectives are also probing whether a mental health episode or hate were motivating factors.

An 18-year-old man was arrested after the stabbing near the Ormeau Road at around 7.35pm on March 1.

It is understood the suspect travelled from north Africa, through the UK and Dublin, before arriving in Belfast in September 2023.

Police believe the offender was acting alone and not as part of a cell.

Assistant Chief Constable Davy Beck said: “The suspect was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, before being detained for the purpose of assessment by mental health professionals.

“He remains in their care at this time.

“The victim, a 51-year-old man, received treatment in hospital and has since been discharged.

“He continues to receive support from specialist officers.

“While I would stress that the motive for the attack has not yet been established, detectives are exploring a number of potential motivating factors, including the possibility that this was a hate crime, a mental health episode or driven by religious ideology.”
