What Are ‘Duvet Days?’ The Sweet Saturday Tradition Meghan Markle & Prince Harry Share With Archie & Lilibet

Meghan Markle recently revealed another major insight into what life looks like inside the Montecito home she shares with Prince Harry and their two kids. More specifically: What Saturday mornings look like.

In a recently released Substack interview with Godmothers, the beloved bookstore near their home, Markle talked about her “pet joys.” As in, the little things that are guaranteed to put a smile on her face. For Markle, that includes cashmere socks (even the “super affordable” dupes online), finding a good bargain (perhaps a sock sale!), and “duvet days” with her family.

“Saturday morning cartoons in bed is also high on my list,” Markle (or should we say Sussex?) said, per People. “In the U.K., they call it a ‘duvet day,’ and I’ve always found that sweet. Our little family, snuggled up for an easy family morning followed by pancakes and bacon.”

“The dream,” she added.

Yes, the former senior royals snuggle up on Saturday morning with their 5-year-old son Prince Archie and their 3-year-old daughter Princess Lilibet and watch cartoons. How wholesome and relatable is that? Former senior royals, they’re just like us! Duvet days are just weekend morning TV and a yummy meal, but we love that the kids get a chance to lean into their British heritage by using such a U.K.-specific term for a universally-loved activity.

We’re not surprised to hear the Sussex family’s duvet days usually involve bacon. Earlier this month, Markle talked about what her family likes to eat for breakfast. Prince Harry and his son both “love” fried eggs, and the actress admitted that there is “a lot of bacon” in the house.

But she also admitted that sometimes an elaborate, hot breakfast is not on the menu. And that’s just fine too.

“Sometimes you don’t have time for all that,” she told People, “and you just put a frozen waffle in the toaster and call it a day.”

“And there’s no shame in that either,” she continued.

Louder for the people in the back! There’s no shame in a frozen waffle. And there’s no shame in a duvet day (despite the screen time and indulgent breakfast) if it’s what brings your family together and keeps a smile on everyone’s faces.
