We’re interior experts – the new ‘it’ colours celebs are using in their homes, its time to ditch grey

FOR the last decade, grey tones have been on trend after being made famous by influencers such as Mrs Hinch, Stacey Solomon and Vicky Pattison.

They all sported the gorgeous sleek look which was highly praised by interior designers.

Experts have said that people are moving away from greys[/caption]

But now experts have revealed that grey is now becoming outdated and there are new colours that celebs are using in their homes.

Celebrities like Rochelle Humes are ditching grey for bolder, more vibrant shades to add personality and luxury to their spaces.

They are embracing warmer, richer colours like warm beiges, deep blues, and earthy greens, all of which are becoming the new ‘It’ colours in high-end interiors.

Nicole Greenhalgh, head of creative at rucomfy, explained that these make a space feel warmed and cosier.

She said: “People are moving away from cool greys because they can feel a little flat.

“Instead, we’re seeing a big shift towards warmer neutrals like soft taupe, clay, and sandy beige, which make a space feel cosier and more inviting while still looking stylish.”

She added: “People want their homes to feel more inviting and luxurious, and colour is one of the simplest ways to achieve that.

“Grey had its moment, but now it’s time for something new.”

One of the most notable home transformations by a celeb moving away from grey comes from Rochelle.

She has swapped grey interiors for a striking all-black kitchen in her family home, proving that darker, moodier tones can create an ultra-sophisticated look.

Stacey Solomon has also moved away from grey and embraced soft, warm neutrals in her Pickle Cottage renovation.

While fashion icon Victoria Beckham has opted for deep, rich wall tones in her London store instead of the grey that dominated for years.

And now instead of playing it safe, designers are encouraging homeowners to follow suit and go for bolder and more expressive colours.

Another expert, Tracey Hague, founder of Where Saints Go, also said that this new trend is all about making a statement.

She said: “We’re seeing a rise in deep blues, forest greens, and terracotta tones because they add depth and character to a room.

These richer colours work beautifully with warm metals like brass and gold, giving that expensive, boutique-hotel feel.”

The interior expert also explained that they are seeing a huge surge in ‘colour drenching’, where walls, ceilings, and even woodwork are painted in the same rich hue to create a seamless, high-end look.

Nicola and Tracey have shared their top tips on how you can add colours to your home over time.

Perfect pairings

COLOURS that pair well with warm beiges, deep blues, and earthy greens include:

  • White – This can help brightens up beige rooms while white accents can make a space feel lighter and brighter.
  • Pink – This complements both warm and cool hues on the colour wheel. For a modern vibe, blend it with light neutrals such as beige, ivory, or taupe. Or for a more daring style, contrast pink with deep greens, navy blues, or rich greys.
  • Black – This pairs beautifully with a wide range of colours, from neutrals like white and beige to bold hues like deep greens. But remember to mix with lighter colours to keep the room feeling open and airy.
  • Peach – This pair beautifully with soft greens and pastel blues to create a space that feels light, stimulating, and full of potential. It also deepens in tone as the seasons shift to autumn.
  • Brown – This pairs beautifully with a variety of complementary shades. For a more striking contrast, deep blues or teal provide a bold yet sophisticated pairing.

If you’ve got a grey-heavy interior and want to modernise your space, they suggest making small, easy swaps to introduce warmer and bolder shades, suggests Nicole.

She said: “Start by replacing grey soft furnishings like cushions and throws with warmer colours such as rust, ochre, or deep navy.

“If you’re feeling bolder, a feature wall in a rich, earthy tone will instantly update your space and give it a more high-end feel.”

However, Tracey advised making some bold furniture changes to instantly transform your space.

Tracey added: “Statement furniture is another great way to move away from grey.

“A velvet sofa in a deep colour, or even a bold armchair, can completely transform a space and give it that luxurious designer look.”
