Warframe Will Never Have Traditional PvP Because of One Huge Reason

It’s been 12 years since the release of Warframe, and the game has garnered an incredible community thanks to developer Digital Extremes’ commitment to releasing new additions.

While Warframe is a popular title, gamers have been begging the developers to rework its PVP and bring it up to modern standards. However, there’s a reason why Digital Extremes won’t honor one of the most demanded things in the game.

Warframe won’t ever get an overhauled PvP system

While chatting with Aftermath, Warframe’s creative director, Rebb Ford, opened up about the game’s journey so far, the development strategies behind the scenes, and what Digital Extremes is planning next for one of its most successful games ever.

While talking about the future of the game, Ford revealed various additions that are unlikely to ever appear in Warframe, one of them being the overhauled PvP. According to her, the development team is unlikely to touch the game’s PvP side due to the game’s networking architecture and a lack of dedicated servers, which are quite crucial in such revamps.

I think true PVP, done better than we do, would be very difficult for us to commit to just because there’s some things we’re never going to change – like our networking architecture, dedicated servers, [etc]. We can’t compete with the Valorants of the world, and I’d rather play Valorant or Fortnite, right?

It’s not just the technical side of things that is preventing an overhauled PvP in Warframe. According to Ford, Warframe is a small title that simply can’t go against the industry’s big hits, such as Valorant and Fortnite. Digital Extremes wants to provide a gaming experience that’s unique and not something trendy that will fall out within a couple of years.

It’s been 12 years since the release of Warframe, and maintaining such a game with 280 members requires some serious planning. Digital Extremes doesn’t have big teams and must devote itself carefully to projects. Every major update we see brings new features, but their expansion depends on how well gamers like it.

This approach might make players believe that a few of the systems, such as PvP, have been completely abandoned. However, Ford has stated that the development team currently isn’t focusing on improving the competitive multiplayer side of the title.

Warframe is still the best game to play 2025

If you still haven’t experienced Warframe yet, now is the perfect time to jump into this game. The horde shooter is a game where casuals can have fun, but if they invest more time practicing, they expect better outcomes. The game has multiple systems that bring players an amazing progression and rewards that give major power boosts.

Unlike other titles out there, Warframe has a lot of endgame content to play. Not only do gamers have their Warframes to get ready, but there are more than 100 weapons to use. Finding yourself the best mods and maxing them out is the most crucial feature. This can include resetting weapons to generate more energy, which is a rewarding grind.

That’s not all; the game has tons of exciting modes. The main gameplay loop is divided into a number of various mission types that always feel fresh. Even though the PvP mode might not be the best, it’s still a good place for players to test their skills.

With that said, what would you like to see in Warframe with future updates? Let us know in the comments below.
