Let’s be honest, AAA games have managed to push the boundaries of the entertainment industry. These big-budget and massive games bring us some breathtaking visuals, immersive stories, and gameplay mechanics that set the trends for years.

In recent years, the AAA gaming industry has been facing a crisis as it is struggling to find players. Developers are scrambling and trying to figure out the reason behind this downward spiral. However, Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2‘s boss knows exactly what’s plaguing the AAA gaming sphere.
Space Marine 2 boss explains the downfall of AAA games
Game File had a chance to sit down with Saber Interactive’s CEO Matt Karch, who opened up about the current crisis of the video gaming industry and what changes are necessary to survive going forward.
The Space Marine 2 boss revealed the financial struggles developers have to face in the video gaming industry. According to him, various high-budget games are failing to generate enough revenue, which puts the development teams at risk.
It would be nice in an ideal world for everyone to have a job. But games with nine-figure budgets are making eight figures in revenue and that’s dooming a lot of developer.
Karch states that excessive spending on game development is a strategy that’s no longer viable. It only works if it’s a franchise as big as Grand Theft Auto. High-budget games without that kind of backing are failing to make revenues, leading to constant layoffs.
The Space Marine 2 boss believes that the gaming industry must push towards a more sustainable business model in order to survive. He also pointed out the high cost of operations in locations such as California, which makes it challenging for developers to hire developers.
He suggests that gaming developers should keep the integral members of the team in the expensive regions, and all other kinds of work should be outsourced to cheaper locations. Saber Interactive itself follows this strategy and outsources a lot of work to other cost-effective countries.
Space Marine 2 studio is working on a Hasbro game

Saber Interactive is already making waves in 2025. Even though Space Marine was a latecomer last year, it’s still breaking records left and right and has elevated the Warhammer 40k franchise. If that’s not all, the studio has confirmed that Space Marine 3 has also entered development.
Space Marine 2 allowed Saber Interactive to establish itself as one of the top dogs of the industry. More and more companies are looking to collaborate with the studio, and even Hasbro has turned it in.
During a Hasbro earnings call, CEO Chris Cocks, revealed that the company is working alongside Saber Interactive to build a brand-new game that’s based on a popular Hasbro IP.
Cocks hasn’t specified which of Hasbro’s IPs would be given a game treatment by Saber Interactive. The most recent game based on a Hasbro franchise was Baldur’s Gate 3, and it’s fair to say that it has left its mark in the gaming world.
The CEO also revealed that he’s a fan of Saber’s work, particularly Space Marine 2, and praised it as one of the best single-player games with multiplayer modes. He also noted Saber Interactive’s innovative solutions, such as the “Swarm tech.”
