Terrifying moment driver ploughs SUV into a CHILD sending victims flying through the air in horror attack

THIS is the terrifying moment a driver ploughs an SUV into two pedestrians, including a teenager, sending them flying through the air.

Johnathan Newbury, 33, can be seen speeding up in the black car before mowing down the victims in Cathays, Cardiff, following a row over an AirBnb double-booking.

Ryan Jones suffered injuries to his pelvis and right foot, while Abdalrhman Ali lost consciousness and suffered injuries to his ribs, chest, abdomen and jaw.

The attack came following a row over an AirBnb rental after Mr Ali, Mr Ryan and another friend booked into a property but on arrival found Newbury and Elliott Fiteni, 23, already there.

Newbury – who chased his victims with a zombie knife-style machete before the SUV attack – was cleared of attempted murder but found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, in connection with the car incident last July.

He was also convicted of attempted GBH and carrying a machete in public, and is due to be sentenced on April 11.

Fiteni was found not guilty of all charges.

Mr Ali and Mr Jones had booked an AirBnb in a rental spot called “Comfortable Stay” for a weekend break to see friends in Cardiff.

Prosecutor James Wilson said: “By chance, a booking had been made at the same address on behalf of Mr Fiteni, who accepted he stayed at the address along with Mr Newbury.

“They were already at the building when Mr Jones and Mr Ali walked towards it.”

However, as they walked up to the property Newbury and Fiteni began shouting “I’ll f*** you up” through a window.

Mr Wilson told Cardiff Crown Court when Mr Ali and Mr Jones left to take a bike to a friend’s house.

But when they returned to the property they were warned by a woman that Newbury would “bomb” at them and “bonnet” them.

Mr Wilson said: “The meaning of this term became clear from what then happened.”

The prosecutor said a black SUV arrived at Bruce Street shortly before midnight with four or five men inside – some got out and at least one was clutching a zombie-style machete.

CCTV footage shows the men chasing Mr Jones and Mr Ali away – with one of the pursuers heard shouting: “I’m going to f***ing rip these little f***ers up.”

As Mr Jones and Mr Ali and two other friends ran off but minutes later the car was seen “immediately speeding up” and striking two of them as they crossed.

Mr Ali and Mr Jones were thrown into the air and left with a range of injuries although these “remarkably and luckily were not as catastrophic as they could have been”, said Mr Wilson.

Mr Wilson said Newbury was identified by victim Mr Jones having previously seen him at a hospital and Fiteni admitted he had been in the car.

The prosecutor said: “Against a background of threats and abuse, we submit that they gave chase with dangerous knives and used a heavy vehicle to target pedestrians at obvious risk of deadly serious harm.

“Both Mr Newbury and Mr Fiteni were involved in a joint attack with the intent to kill or at least cause serious injury.”

Judge Jeremy Jenkins adjourned Newbury’s sentencing. He told him: “You have been found guilty of serious offences. You can expect a substantial period of immediate custody.”
