Taylor Sheridan’s most underrated movie is blowing up on streaming in 2025, and it’s the franchise that truly needs more shows. While Yellowstone rules TV, this gritty gem proves Sheridan’s magic goes far beyond the Duttons.

With tension, raw performances, and rich world-building, it’s begging for spin-offs. So why hasn’t it happened yet? Maybe its streaming resurgence will change that.
Taylor Sheridan’s Sicario is blowing up on Netflix — time for a TV universe?

Netflix’s latest hit isn’t a new blockbuster — it’s Sicario, the 2015 crime thriller that’s suddenly dominating the charts. Written by Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, this intense drug war drama has climbed Netflix’s Top 10 nearly a decade after its release. And honestly, it’s a reminder that this is the franchise Sheridan should expand.
Sheridan has spent years building out his Yellowstone empire, plus Western-adjacent shows like Tulsa King and Mayor of Kingstown. But Sicario proves he doesn’t need cowboy hats to deliver a gripping TV universe.
The film, directed by Denis Villeneuve (Dune), follows Emily Blunt’s FBI agent as she’s thrown into the brutal world of cartel warfare. It’s stacked with A-listers — Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, Jon Bernthal, and even a pre-Get Out Daniel Kaluuya.
It was also Sheridan’s breakout script, landing him a Writer’s Guild of America award and setting the stage for his Hollywood takeover.
Since landing on Netflix, Sicario has surged in popularity, proving crime thrillers are still in high demand. A sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, exists, but what this story really needs is a full-fledged TV universe. Instead of churning out more Westerns, Sheridan could give Sicario the Yellowstone treatment and build a gripping crime saga.
A network-ready Sicario series? That’s a no-brainer. Sheridan just needs to make the call.
Taylor Sheridan’s Landman renewed for season 2 at Paramount+

The fate of Taylor Sheridan’s Landman has finally been decided — and it’s good news for fans. Paramount+ has officially renewed the Billy Bob Thornton-led drama for Season 2, solidifying its place among Sheridan’s powerhouse lineup, including Tulsa King, Lioness, and 1923.
Set in West Texas’ high-stakes oil industry, Landman is inspired by the Boomtown podcast and blends corporate drama with Sheridan’s signature neo-Western grit. Thornton leads a stacked cast featuring Demi Moore, Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, and Jacob Lofland.
Season 1’s finale left fans with plenty to unpack — especially the shocking death of Jon Hamm’s oil tycoon, Monty Miller. Hamm hinted at ambiguity, but with his name missing from the Season 2 roster, it’s clear Monty is gone for good.
Watch Sicario on AppleTV+ & Netflix.
