Not so fast, says Southern Charm’s JT Thomas in response to the claim his “best friend” Venita Aspen spent $5k on his wardrobe.
“We are/were best friends,” Thomas wrote in reply to Us Weekly’s article about Aspen’s alleged purchase. “I forgot my credit card in her car by accident, was hobbling with a cane a few days after a major ATV crash, and paypal’d her back in full after she insisted/we not hobble back to the car to get the card and hobble back. This is fun…”
Aspen first shared her side of the story during the Southern Charm after-show on Thursday, March 14.
“I’m on a walk and I call JT and I say, ‘Hey, listen, I want you to come with me to this event as my date.’ He goes, ‘You know, I don’t think my girlfriend’s gonna like that.’ I literally throw my phone on my porch and slam my door,” Aspen said.

The event in question was a summer party hosted by costar Madison LeCroy and Ryan Albert. “Imagine having a girlfriend and then having your best friend spend $5,000 on you at Dumas,” Venita continued, referencing a scene from earlier in the season when she and JT, 39, went shopping together. “And you get it tailored, same day turnaround. They don’t do that for anybody else.”
The pair’s co-star Leva Bonaparte didn’t quite understand Aspen’s story and why she spent that kind of money on Thomas in the first place.
“That was my best friend first,” Aspen answered.
The most recent episode of the reality series seemed to show that Aspen and Thomas experienced some degree of romantic chemistry. But in another episode, Thomas revealed he was dating someone else, and a third showed Aspen going into Thomas’ room at night.

Aspen later clarified the events in the episodes were not shown in chronological order.
“Let me make something VERY CLEAR. That dinner JT and I had after I made a Branzino was AFTER the Bahamas yall as an audience saw it BEFORE,” she wrote on Instagram. “So this weeks episode is now making me look like I’m a home wrecker when I’m not. I know what I signed up for but I also will not allow the world to think I’m that woman when I’m not.”
Sally Carson, also a cast member on the show, has made it clear where she stands. “He pretended to want Venita and he had a girlfriend the whole f—ing time,” she said. “I will f— you up if you f— with one of my girls, and he f—ed with Venita. He’s dead to me.”
