“Set me back a little bit”: LA Knight May Have Got The Rock’s Mic Skills, but Fighting Roman Reigns Is His Big Regret

LA Knight has been doing quite a few rounds, transcending himself to the upper part of the mid card. Transitioning all the way from Eli Drake, Knight has proven to the world that he is capable of dishing out important matches if needed.

Even though his WWE debut came as a model manager when he was introduced as Max Dupri, his natural charisma soon saw big matches coming his way. It was the promo skills of LA Knight that proved to be the pivot of his career as he had the ability to captivate the audiences with small catchphrases, much like one of WWE biggest stars, The Rock.

Out of the notable rivalries that he fought in WWE, he started it all with the Hollywood A-Lister, The Miz. Shortly thereafter, he was duking it out with stalwarts of the industry like Bray Wyatt and AJ Styles. However, the turning point for him was definitely when he saw Roman Reigns in the eyes and decided to take him head-on.

Why did LA Knight believe that the battle against Roman Reigns proved costly?

Back in 2023, LA Knight’s popularity soared through the roof. With his mic skills making the WWE Universe holler with him, he decided to take on the established order. With the signs of greatness calling, he dropped explosive promos against the Bloodline and Roman Reigns. With the championship challenge in place, Knight wanted to be the one to end Reigns’ reign.

The culmination of all the intense build-up came in Crown Jewel 2023. LA Knight faced Roman Reigns in Riyadh. As expected, with the help of Bloodline, Roman Reigns put down Knight. Despite being defeated, LA Knight’s valiant showdown in the ring, bolstered his stance as a wrestler, even though the man himself believes that it set him back a little.

In an interview with SHAK Wrestling, LA Knight admitted that the fight against Roman Reigns played its fair part in defining his WWE career. He believed that it elevated him to a certain extent while also proving to be a setback for himself. He claimed that he had to rebuild himself back in the spring and winter of last year.

Despite the way it was written and the outcome of the match, given the fact that Knight came up with exclusive promo skills and the result went in favor of Roman Reigns, it detracted a lot from his aura which became a regret for him. However, he had no complaints about the same, rather found Crown Jewel as a decent experience.

I think it optically, in a way, it elevated me, and I think… also, optically, in a way, it also kind of set me back a little bit to where I had to do a little bit of a rebuild, back in like the winter and the springtime of last year.

Since then LA Knight has been involved in a battle with Grayson Waller. One of the major setbacks for Knight has always been that there are so many superstars right now dishing out those top rivalries, that despite being one of the best in business, he has somehow been set back over and over again. However, if he can continue to nurture the talent that he has been blessed with, things might turn for him in quick succession.

What is Roman Reigns doing on the Road to WrestleMania 41?

Roman Reigns ran an absolute riot against his former team member in The Shield, Seth Rollins, attacking him during his steel cage match against CM Punk. However, that wasn’t the end of it all. He also went on to spear CM Punk after the latter was seen being tended to by Paul Heyman.

Reigns continues to be an absolute threat for Rollins and CM Punk. With improved promotional skills and Paul Heyman by his side, another epic storyline might be on its way. In fact, recent remarks from WWE fans stated that such has been his promo game since his heel turn, that John Cena plagiarised his promo on his first appearance as a heel after that vicious assault on Cody Rhodes at the Elimination Chamber.

Even though it is unsure what might be the storyline for Roman Reigns on the way to Las Vegas, it goes without saying that he will be hopeful of putting up a show to remember. However, his stardom will obviously compel WWE to come up with a solid storyline in his wake, considering the intense build-up to the Greatest Wrestling Shows of all time.
