Scots city named as one of the best places to celebrate St Patrick’s Day

A SCOTS city has been crowned the best place to celebrate St Patrick’s Day outside of Ireland.

Taking place on 17 March, the day honours the patron saint of Ireland and has evolved into an international celebration marked by parades, music and drinking.

With the festivities, which celebrate Irish culture, falling on a Monday this year, revellers across the UK are searching for the best city to join in the celebrations.

According to a recent study, Glasgow has been ranked as the top city outside Ireland, beating other cities in England, Wales, and the rest of Scotland.

The research, conducted by The Winners Enclosure, examined five key factors, including the price of a pint of Guinness, the number of Irish pubs, the existence of a parade, and the tradition of “splitting the G”.

Glasgow claimed the top spot with an impressive score of 75.9 out of 100, narrowly beating Edinburgh into second place.

The study highlighted that Glasgow offers a reasonably priced pint of Guinness, with an average cost of £4.82.

The west coast city also boasts the highest number of Irish bars, with 18 venues, making it a lively destination for St Patrick’s Day festivities.

Three new Irish pubs have opened in Glasgow over the past year, second only to Manchester, which has seen five new establishments.

The study also found that Glaswegians are embracing the social media trend of “splitting the G” — a challenge where drinkers stop sipping at the halfway point of the ‘G’ in the Guinness logo on their pint glass.

Locals reportedly search for the trend online an average of 320 times per month.

Edinburgh came in second place with a score of 75.4 out of 100, narrowly missing out on the top spot due to higher Guinness prices, which average £5.32 per pint.

The capital is home to 12 Irish bars, including three new venues that opened in the past year.

Edinburgh also hosts its own St Patrick’s Day parade, which starts on the High Street, Royal Mile, and finishes at Grassmarket Square.

Manchester ranked third with a score of 62.6 out of 100.

Malones, located in the city’s Sauchiehall Lane, unveiled the new rooftop space last month.

A must-visit for sports fans, the bar features three massive HD televisions streaming both general entertainment and football outdoors, while remaining under cover.
