A significant rockslide has led to the long-term closure of Highway 140, a key access route to Yosemite National Park. The incident occurred late Monday near Briceburg in Mariposa County, effectively blocking traffic in both directions. Caltrans has closed the highway between Savage Trading Post in Briceburg and Yosemite Cedar Lodge in Incline. Drones are being utilized to assess the damage, and further evaluations are planned throughout the week. Debris removal will not commence until these assessments are concluded, and no reopening date has been determined.
Travelers heading to Yosemite should use either Highway 41 or Highway 120, both of which remain open. The closure poses challenges as the park anticipates increased visitation during spring. Visitors should regularly check for updates on road conditions and plan for additional travel time.
