Plumas National Forest recently reported successful completion of pile burn treatments in various locations. On the Beckwourth Ranger District, approximately 122 acres of piles were treated in the Mohawk Vista project area near Blairsden. Meanwhile, firefighters on the Mount Hough Ranger District treated roughly 22 acres of piles near the district office and California State Highway 70. These efforts included piles from recent fuel reduction work, though newer piles were left unburned this time. Weather conditions, including a local storm, helped reduce smoke visibility during these operations.
Additionally, firefighters successfully treated 325 acres of piles in Butterfly Valley and one acre at the Cascade Trailhead near Keddie. The Plumas County Fire Safe Council supported the Butterfly Valley operation, with execution by Plumas National Forest personnel and Firestorm Wildland Fire Suppression Inc. Continuous patrol and monitoring of the treated areas are planned to ensure safety and effectiveness.
