People assume I’m cheap because I have no clutter in my house – but trolls say my bedroom looks like a nan lives here

A WOMAN has defended the decor in her house as people claim it looks like their nan’s bedroom.

The woman, who goes by Diary of a Cheapskate, took to social media after being asked if she was a minimalist or just cheap.

And while she thought she was just frugal, she quickly came to realise her viewers might be onto something.

She said; “I’ve been asked if I’m a minimalist and although my first reaction is to say no, looking around my house I guess I kind of am.”

“I don’t like having a lot of clutter about, I don’t like buying new things that will clutter up the house.”

She then took viewers around her bedroom, which was practically bare.

The pale pink walls matched the bedding, while the short grey curtains matched the carpet.

As she entered the room a basic brown wooden chest of drawers sat against the wall with a mirror sat on top.

The small window was kept bare, as she turned her attention to her bed.

The bed was left plain with a pink bedding set and no decorative cushions; on each side of the bed stood white side tables.

Yet again, the tables were left with very few decorative items: a pink lamp, a book, and a deodorant can.

There were two built-in cupboards in the room, where she and her partner stored their clothes.

The bed frame also had drawers where they stored more of their items.

She continued: “I would normally have my dressing gown hanging on the back of the door, but it’s in the wash at the minute.

“But that’s the only other thing that we have sort of on display in the room.”

The clip went viral on her Tiktok account @diaryofacheapskate with over 219k views and 5,600 likes.

Home upgrades that add the most value to a house

The best renovation to add value totally depends on your property, the local market and your potential buyers.

Zoopla shared a list of upgrades that will instantly add value to your home.

  1. Loft conversion – increase of 15%
  2. Off-street parking – adds £50,000 to property price
  3. New kitchen – increase of 15%
  4. Garage conversion – increase of 15%
  5. Cellar or basement conversion – increase of 10-15%
  6. Open plan living space – increase of 3-5%
  7. New bathroom – increase of 3-5%

People were quick to share their thoughts on her interior design choices and cruelly claimed it looked like their nan’s bedroom.

One person wrote: “It’s giving ‘Nan needs care at home so the room has to be empty for the nurses to come in.’”

Another commented: “It looks like my nan’s bedroom.”

“I absolutely love making my house cosy, welcoming and personal… this looks like a bedsit,” penned a third.

Meanwhile, a fourth said: “It’s very dull; I couldn’t bear everything mismatching. Looks very 70s, but each to their own.

“I don’t mind minimalist but I’d have to inject some life into this room,” claimed a fifth.

Someone else added: “Oh my goodness. Where’s your stuff?”
