Pensioner raced to hospital after ‘robbery’ on Scots road as suspect charged

A PENSIONER was rushed to hospital following an alleged robbery on a busy Glasgow street.

Emergency services raced to Victoria Road in the Govanhill area of the city at around midnight on Friday.

A 77-year-old man was taken to the nearby Victoria Infirmary, where he received treatment after being found injured near Queen‘s Park station.

He was later discharged from hospital.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged incident.

He is expected to appear in court on Monday, March 17.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.55pm on Friday, 14 March 2025, we were called to a report that a 77-year-old man had been the victim of a robbery on Victoria Road, Govanhill, Glasgow.

“He was taken to the Victoria Infirmary, where he was treated and has since been discharged.

“A 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

“He is expected to appear in court on Monday, 17 March 2025. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

It comes days after a huge fire ripped through a popular Glasgow cafe on the same city street.

Mercy crews were called to Mi Chaii, on Victoria Road, after the alarm was raised around 5:52pm today.


The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service dispatched four engines and a high-reach appliance to the scene.

Victoria Road was closed for several hours with motorists urged to find alternative routes.

Images from the scene showed huge plumes of black smoke billowing from the cafe.
