Solo Leveling might have taken the anime world by storm, but it still cannot surpass the God of Shonen anime, One Punch Man. One Punch Man season 1 is a force of nature. It has been almost a decade since it was released but to date, it stays undefeatable.
But why is One Punch Man so good? How did the makers create such an unbelievable anime a decade ago? And will Solo Leveling ever be able to surpass it?
One Punch Man season 1 is a force to reckon with
The very first catch of the series is its hilarious nature and introduction. A bald hero who is so powerful that all it takes is a single hit to take anyone down. One might think this must be the ultimate hero of the world. But the reality is that almost no one knows Saitama, and he gets incredibly frustrated by how easily he can defeat enemies. Where’s the fun in that?
OPM doesn’t take itself too seriously, and fans are in love with the chaos and nonchalant attitude of the protagonist. But keeping the plot aside, what made season 1 of the anime unforgettable was its animation. Studio Madhouse went absolutely nuts with it and proved how good animation quality can get with dedication. In contrast, season 2 by J.C. Staff did not get as much appreciation.
Thus, fans often resort to rewatching season 1 over and over again. Every single fight is goated and deservedly so. Additionally, season 1 of the anime had some industry veterans and talented freelancers working on it. Even a single punch in the anime is better animated than most series of today. It was a passion project with big names in the industry and plenty of time to get it done properly.
Solo Leveling is good, but One Punch Man is unbeatable
Solo Leveling has a simple plot with brilliant execution. It’s a fun power fantasy anime with hype moments littered around. The story itself might feel generic, with very little character development, but it’s a brainless watch. With the second season of the series, it has only gotten better.
But no matter how good the animation of Solo Leveling gets, it can never defeat One Punch Man. The answer is simple: One Punch Man is just a class above the rest. From it’s story to direction, animation and execution, everything is top-notch. While Solo Leveling is more like a generic anime done right, OPM is exceptional in every way.
For Solo Leveling, its art is one of the few things that makes the series look and feel so good. However, when compared with series that have a complex storyline, Solo Leveling will fall behind. One Punch Man might look like a silly anime, but it does provide character development and suspenseful moments, as well as scenes that catch fans by surprise.
