Nigel Farage ‘needs to UNITE with Tories’ to stop Keir Starmer from winning a second term

NIGEL Farage must sign up to ‘unite the right’ deal to stop Sir Keir Starmer winning a second term in office, senior Tories say.

The Reform leader faces calls to agree a deal that could see some of his candidates stand down at an election in a pact with the Conservatives.

Tory MPs, donors and ex-party aides have been meeting in secret content that Farage could lead the joint force – and ultimately be Prime Minister.

A campaign to unite the right of British politics is expected to be launched within weeks with big financial backing, the Sunday Times reported.

One disgruntled Tory said they will get their leader Kemi Badenoch out “sharpish” as her own MPs realise she is “doomed”.

She is due to launch a policy review this week as part of drawing up policy proposals for the party’s next manifesto.

The move comes as ex-Number 10 aide Dominic Cummings has held talks with Farage about how to take on the Tories, as first revealed by The Sun’s Harry Cole.

But shadow Education Secretary Laura Trott insisted that Reform was in chaos following the fall-out between Farage and ousted MP Rupert Lowe.

Lowe, MP for Great Yarmouth, hit out at the Reform party leader, saying: “We have to change from being a protest party led by the Messiah into being a properly structured party with a front bench, which we don’t have.

“We have to start behaving as if we are leading and not merely protesting.

“Nigel is a messianic figure who is at the core of everything but he has to learn to delegate, as not everything can go through one person.”

The Met Police has launched a probe into the suspended Reform MP Mr Lowe after “verbal threats”.

Lowe denies the claims.

But Trott said: “Kemi took over after historic defeat for our party, but she is bringing the change that we need to win back the trust of the electorate and to speak the truth about what happened beforehand.

“Rebuilding trust is the thing that we really need to do, and the Reform party is in chaos at the moment.

“The Lib Dems are doing nothing but enabling this Labour government.

“It’s up to us and our reduced number, because of Reform at the last election, enabling this Labour super-majority, to provide the scrutiny that we can do.

“And we are doing that, and we are fighting incredibly hard.”

But a Reform spokesman said: “There is no deal.

“The only reason the Tories are talking about it is because their poll ratings are about to fall off a cliff.”

Voters in over half of constituencies think Farage would be better PM than Starmer, poll finds

By

VOTERS think Nigel Farage would make a better prime minister than Sir Keir Starmer in more than half of constituencies, according to a new poll.

Reform UK’s leader beats Sir Keir in 335 seats compared to Sir Keir’s 291.

Tory Party leader Kemi Badenoch leads in just six.

Labour are set to lose twice as many seats to Reform as they are to the Conservatives, according to the survey by JL Partners for the Adam Smith Institute.

And one in five Labour 2024 voters are now considering Reform.

Mr Farage is also the preferred choice for PM in Labour vs Reform battleground seats.

Even the Brexit big beast thinks he can become prime minister, telling The Times Magazine yesterday: “There’s a good chance, yes.”

Asked on what odds, added: “About 35 to 45 per cent at the moment.”

Polling also showed that over half of Brits think Labour are anti-fun and anti-personal freedoms.

The research was commissioned ahead of government plans to ban smoking and disposable vapes.

Tum Lubbock, co-founder of JL Partners, said: “Keir Starmer is in a race for popularity with Nigel Farage and at the moment this data shows that Nigel Farage is the preferred choice for Prime Minister in more than half of constituencies vs the Prime Minister.

“That extends to 1 in 10 of those who actually voted Labour last year who now say that Nigel Farage would be a better PM than the man who actually holds that office – Keir Starmer.”

Maxwell Marlow, director of public affairs at ASI, said: “The government needs to start prioritising what really matters to people.

“The public understandably want the attention to be on reducing the cost of living or fixing public services like the NHS.

“This should be a wake up call for Starmer and co. Rather than acting like the anti-fun police, they should be laser-focused on delivering what they’ve repeatedly said is their number one mission: growth.

“If they don’t change course they’ve got no excuse for failing to understand why their voters are turning to parties like Reform UK, who at the very least will let people enjoy the little pleasures in life.”
