But even that one guest cameo role in the series was nothing short of iconic, both because of her own performance as well as the ones she worked with, which included Mark Harmon too since he was still a part of the smash hit saga back then. In NCIS, while Mark Harmon served as a regular for nearly two decades as the fan-favorite Leroy Jethro Gibbs, Jamie Lee Curtis had a much shorter tenure. For five episodes of season 9, she embodied the Pentagon’s Psy Ops division director, Dr. Samantha Ryan, who crosses paths with Gibbs and his team on a case but only with initial disappointment.

Despite not really starting on a good note, things eventually fall into place for both Ryan and Gibbs as they get past their strained working relationship. But the best part, perhaps, was when the two were really trying to put up with each other at the beginning. This included them pulling off moves that could easily establish them in the enemies-to-lovers trope.

For one, by the end of her first episode as Dr. Ryan, Curtis’ character had already planted listening devices in Gibbs’ basement, while Harmon’s character retaliated by showing up outside her son’s school, which was a classified location. As epic as that was, turns out, those were also some of the scenes that the actress really enjoyed filming on the show.

In fact, when she found out that Harmon was leaving the show, the Halloween actress took to her Instagram handle @jamieleecurtis to share with fans her very favorite moment from that time, writing,

My favorite line was when I was coming down from his bedroom, ‘Practice makes perfect.’ Certainly worked for him and his Jethro Gibbs character.

Unarguably cute enough for the pair that quite literally went from finding each other pretty much unbearable to beginning a romance between them. That said, while, in the series, Ryan had to flee with her son after her ex-husband was released from prison, cutting her newly budding relationship short, Curtis won’t be forgetting those memorable moments personally anytime soon.

While holding her scenes with him in high regard as her favorites is one thing, Jamie Lee Curtis also went on to admit that she will always cherish those five episodes as “one of the unexpected delights of my varied career.” Confessing about the same in her Instagram post before proceeding to praise Harmon for his performance, the True Lies actress wrote:

I just read that my friend, Mark Harmon is leaving his leadership position @ncis_cbs One of the unexpected delights of my varied career was being able to do five episodes opposite him and his team in front of and behind the camera. […] Well done Harmon. Gary would be/is so proud!

All in all, In the world of NCIS, Lee Curtis’ Dr. Samantha Ryan and Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs were an unlikely match made in heaven, but ultimately, their chemistry proved that even the most unlikely of partners can become the perfect match. As the actress fondly recalled her favorite scene, it’s evident that this particular romance will forever be etched in her memory as fond moments she won’t want to forget anytime soon – all thanks to Mark Harmon.

NCIS can currently be streamed on CBS.
