Michelle Williams Opens Fan Mail Meant for Her Name Twin Actress

Michelle Williams welcomes fan mail, but when fans say her name, say her name, they aren’t always referring to the former Destiny’s Child singer.

Williams, 45, took some time to answer letters from fans as she’s in New York City starring on Broadway in Death Becomes Her. She uploaded a hilarious update via Instagram on Monday, March 10, where she highlighted one in particular from a fan named Phillip.

“Dear Michelle Williams, I hope this letter finds you in great spirits,” the letter began. “My name is Phillip and I have been an avid fan of your incredible performances in both film and theater. Your work in Blue Valentine, Manchester by the Sea [and] The Greatest Showman has deeply moved me and many others, showcasing your exceptional talent.”

Phillip, of course, made a bugaboo and meant to send the letter to the actress Michelle Williams of Dawson’s Creek fame, not the one who sang alongside Beyoncé in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

“I am writing to kindly ask if you would consider signing the enclosed photos I have of you,” the letter continued. “Furthermore, I wish you all the best and much success with your current production of Death Becomes Her at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. I am sure that your captivating performance will leave a lasting impression on the audience.”

“Phillip, thank you so much,” Williams said, showing the photos Phillip enclosed, which were clearly of the other Michelle Williams.

“Michelle knows what’s going on as well, and I cannot wait to see her, hopefully sooner than later,” she said.

She also shouted out her actual fans before closing the video.

Michelle Williams Through the Years: From ‘Dawson’s Creek’ to the Oscars

“Let me admit, I do get a lot of other fan mail that is actually addressed to me. This Michelle Williams,” she said. “I just wanna acknowledge that.”

Fans in the comments were jumpin’ jumpin’ at Williams’ humor, including Valorie Burton, who left an emoji-filled reply.

“Noooooooo😂😂😂,” she wrote. “I was a little confused about those movie titles. [Your] sense of humor is 🔥🔥😂😂😂.”

Nicole Scherzinger added, “OMGGGGG I CANNOT EVEN🙈🤣🥴you have me 🤣🤣🤣🤣🫠 sis!!!!!”

Perhaps Williams should have seen the writing on the wall. She has spoken about this confusion before, talking about it on a 2019 livestream via X.

“How come when y’all are tagging and congratulating a person, do y’all see that I’m Black?” she asked. “When you go to my profile, you search for the ‘Michelle Williams,’ I am Black. OK? I ain’t mixed with nothing, I ain’t mixed with Persian, Russian, I am Black.”

Fan mail is one thing, but the Destiny’s Child singer should be thankful she doesn’t also get the actress’ bills, bills, bills.
