Masashi Kishimoto’s Foreshadowing in Naruto Has Already Spoiled Hashirama Senju’s Return in Boruto Without Using Edo Tensei

For the longest while, the only way for dead people to return to life was either Edo Tensei or Rinne Tensei. Both of these are powerful and forbidden techniques used in Naruto to revive dead people. But Masashi Kishimoto might be planning something at an even grander scale for Boruto.

Edo Tensei is often hailed as superior to Rinne Tensei since it allows a dead person to be in full control again. But in Boruto, Kishimoto might just come up with another technique to summon the dead. Believe it or not, it has already been foreshadowed in Naruto.

The terrifying aspect of Hashirama Cell’s regenerative properties in Naruto

Hashirama Senju, the First Hokage, was considered the most powerful shinobi of his time. His unique Wood Release could not be lost at any cost, which led to the harvestation of his DNA. In the Naruto universe, antagonists like Danzo and Madara grafted themselves with Hashirama’s cells for increasing their life force, stamina, chakra reserve, strength and many other aspects.

However, a cruel side effect was always present. Grafting Hashirama’s cells led to the appearance of a pale Hashirama face on the body of the user. But it could be more than just a visual anomaly. It almost seems like biological evidence of he overwhelcoming power and autonomy of the First Hokage’s cells.

These cells clearly aren’t just passive tissues are they carry a regenerative instinct and tru to restore the original form where they came from. The partial facial features on the body of new hosts suggests that given time and perfect conditions, the cells could attempt to rebuild their original body.

Masashi Kishimoto might bring back Hashirama in Boruto

In both Madara and Danzo, it is clear that the cells have actively resisted containment and began to form physical aspects of Hashirama. Thus, Hashirama’s cells might be trying to slowly overtake the foreign tissue to reshape and rewrite it in Hashirama’s image. This is simply the early stage of the reclamation procedure.

If left unchecked and with the usage of a large batch of these cells, the new host body could be overtaken completely. Over time, Hashirama’s identity could erode the host’s body and mind. This suggests that Hashirama could be reborn naturally through his cells alone. This way, resurrection techniques like Edo Tensei or Rinne Tensei would become redundant.

Hashirama’s cells might be life-giving, but they can also lead to cancerous or tumorous growths on the host’s body. Rather than increasing the power of the new host, it is simply trying to accommodate Hashirama’s original powers again so that the First Hokage can take over again.

Thus, Hashirama can be brought back to Boruto quite easily. But this time, there’s no telling if the Hokage will side with the heroes or the villains. Afterall, in the process of such a complex genetic modification, there’s no guarantee how it would affect the soul of the person. Will the regenerated Hashirama still carry his moral righteousness? Or will it be replaced by overwhelming urge to seek power?

The Naruto and Boruto anime are available to stream on Crunchyroll and the manga can be read on Viz Media.
