A MAN in his 20s has been arrested following the attempted murder of two women in Co Down.
The 26-year-old man was arrested after the two women were stabbed at a home in Downpatrick shortly after 8:30am this morning.
PSNI officers received reports that a man armed with two knives was attacking two women in a house on Stream Street.
The incident then spilled outside with one of the women, 35, further “violently assaulted” in the back garden.
She sustained a serious knife wound to her neck and other lacerations to her head and face.
Cops were then able to intervene and the man was arrested.
Another women, in her 50s, has been left with injuries from stab wounds.
Local Inspector Eamonn Campbell said: “Both women were taken to hospital, one via air ambulance and one by road, however whilst serious, their injuries are not believed to be life threatening at this time.
“The arrested man, 26, has been taken into police custody and will be questioned on suspicion of a number of offences including attempted murder.
“The scene at Stream Street is currently being examined and people are asked to avoid the area where possible.
“We are keen to hear from witnesses or anyone who may have any recorded footage which captured the events this morning.
“Please call 101, quoting reference 237 14/03/25.”
SUDDEN DEATH DERRY
This comes after a woman in her 40s in Co Derry who died suddenly last week, leading to a major PSNI investigation, was named locally.
PSNI officers are looking into the “full circumstances” surrounding the death of Jolene McDaid last Sunday.
A 38-year-old man was initially arrested following the incident, but has been released on bail upon further enquiries.
Detectives said in an initial statement: “Detectives are investigating the sudden death of a woman in the Kilrea area.
“The woman, aged in her 40s, was sadly pronounced dead on Sunday 9 March.
“A man, aged 38, arrested in connection with the investigation remains in custody at this time.
“Officers are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death. Further details will be provided in due course.”
Jolene has been remembered as a “loving mother” who will be “sadly missed” by her family.
