Jonathan Majors: Going to Therapy After Domestic Violence Trial Unlocked Childhood Trauma of “S*xual abuse from both men and women” Since I Was 9

Jonathan Majors was on the rise in Hollywood, with several notable projects to his name. But out of the lot, playing Kang the Conqueror in the MCU was a dream come true for him. However, everything came to a standstill when an ex-girlfriend made some serious accusations against him. Now, after several months, the actor has finally broken his silence and is detailing every small aspect of his life.

In this, he specifically talked about his highly publicized trial and the deep personal struggles that surfaced in the aftermath.

Jonathan Majors on how therapy brought back his childhood trauma

Playing one of the most famous villains in the MCU was no joke. Yet, Jonathan Majors was more than ready to bring Kang the Conqueror to the big screen. The actor was known for his versatility across genres and, not to forget, his amazing performances in projects like Creed 3 and Lovecraft Country, to name a few. So, evidently, when fans heard he was cast as Kang, their excitement knew no bounds.

However, this anticipation was short-lived when his life took a drastic turn following his conviction on some serious charges brought by his former girlfriend. This led to the cancellation of several of his projects, including Marvel’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which was later changed to Avengers: Doomsday.

Now, after months of silence, the actor opened up in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter about his legal troubles and the painful past he has only recently begun to face. While undergoing therapy as part of his court-ordered intervention program, he uncovered long-suppressed memories of childhood trauma.

He said, “I dealt with s*xual abuse from both men and women from the time I was 9.” He also added that these were people who were supposed to look after him as he had an absent father. Majors also shared that he received an apology from his mother for not being able to protect him properly.

To this, he said he wasn’t looking to put blame on anyone but only wanted understanding in return.

He also said that while “there are no excuses, by getting help, you begin to understand things about yourself.” While he spoke his heart out on these issues, he also shared his excitement about his upcoming movie, Magazine Dreams.

How did Jonathan Majors know that Marvel had fired him?

Things have been quite rough for Jonathan Majors for a while. In the same The Hollywood Reporter interview, the actor detailed the moment he found out that Marvel had fired him. As soon as he stepped out of court, he was approached by one of his lawyers, who broke the news to him. The lawyer revealed, “They fired you. Marvel fired you.”

This was obviously not unexpected, as the studio had been hedging its bets for months and had also quietly brought in Loki creator Michael Waldron to rewrite the script, which later became Avengers: Doomsday. Soon after, instead of Majors, Robert Downey Jr. was brought in to play Dr. Doom in the MCU.

While this was definitely heartbreaking for him, he is not done with the superhero genre. In fact, he hinted that he has been taking meetings for a new project, though it won’t be with Marvel or DC.
