Former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo has denied taking part in the vote to pass the E-levy.
It will be remembered that in 2022, the e-levy was passed in parliament after a majority vote confirmed it.
However, there were concerns raised that a female represented Adwoa Safo on the floor of parliament; a claim which was debunked by the then majority in parliament.
But Adwoa Safo in an interview on
According to her, she decided to stay out of the election because it was against her conviction as a Christian.
She explains that her father’s church stands for charity and the poor, and they complained vehemently about the levy.
“I took a firm decision to abstain from it. I don’t regret that I took that stance, and that has positioned me well among my people in the church. I am looking at a time when people in Parliament will not vote according to party lines but based on their conviction,” she said.
“I believe that what the Church told me, what my father told me and the party did not listen affected us. Today, the party will bring me my stone because the e-levy was something that affected us during the election.”
“Even Dr Bawumia who was part of the then government decided he was going to scrap it if he had won the election. The current government has also scrapped it so it means that the e-levy was of no good to the people of Ghana and we should have listened to the people like I listened and stayed out of the process to pass the levy,” she told Asempa FM’s OB.
