“I Couldn’t! I Basically Couldn’t”: No Man Deserves the Horrible Body-Shaming Timothée Chalamet Faced After Failing a $924M Movie Franchise Audition

After punching above his weight in the Indie landscape, in recent years, Timothée Chalamet has become the face of one of the most acclaimed action IPs of the modern era, Dune. But during his initial years in showbiz, Chalamet was unsure about his future in the genre, especially after being rejected from several projects, including the Maze Runner franchise.

As a result, the actor recalled being told by his agents that he wasn’t built for such roles, which pushed the Dune star to change his approach.

Despite being adamant about putting on weight to fit the criteria for major action projects, Chalamet confessed that he just couldn’t gain weight, adding “I couldn’t! I basically couldn’t”. Being a big fan of Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight, Chalamet dreamt about making his mark in the action genre, as he recounted auditioning for the Maze Runner and the Divergent series.

But after numerous rejections, his agent dropped a bombshell by telling him “We’re gonna stop submitting you for these bigger projects” for not putting on weight. Considering it wasn’t something in his control as, despite numerous attempts, Chalamet just couldn’t gain more pounds, unfortunately, he had to give up his dreams to headline action releases at the time (via Rolling Stone).

I had an agent call me once and say, ‘I’m tired of getting the same feedback. We’re gonna stop submitting you for these bigger projects, because you’re not putting on weight.’ I was trying to put on weight. I couldn’t! I basically couldn’t. My metabolism or whatever the fuck couldn’t do it.

Ironically, after being turned from numerous action IPs in the early years of his career, the Little Women star is currently the face of one of the most acclaimed modern action series, helmed by Denis Villeneuve.

Even though after Dune 2, Timothée Chalamet has returned to his roots to tackle more personal and intimate themes with the upcoming biopic, A Complete Unknown, his ascend in action isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

Although he was advised against taking CBMs by Leonardo Dicaprio, Chalamet isn’t entirely against the genre, as given his love for The Dark Knight, if a film of that caliber comes his way, he’d consider it (via The New York Times).

But the movie that made me want to act is a superhero movie, ‘The Dark Knight.’ If the script was great, if the director was great, I’d have to consider it.

With how impeccable his filmography has been so far, it’s safe to say the Wonka star won’t disappoint with his choices regarding more action flicks in the future.

Dune: Part Two is available to stream on Max.
