Helldivers 2: Mark Divers With Too Much Friendly Fire Damage as ‘War Criminals’ With an Optional, Even More Diabolical ‘Traitor Mode’

Helldivers 2 provides players with an exciting co-op experience, but it can quickly turn into a nightmare if you get in a squad with a player that loves team killing. Many players have pointed out that Arrowhead Game Studios must implement a proper feature that allows players to completely restrict toxic players from entering games. As annoying as it sounds, the studio has designed the game so that it kills you unexpectedly, but it gets frustrating at one point.

One way to solve this problem is by punishing players who get the most friendly damage at the end of every mission. Another solution is to turn on reverse friendly fire for these players, a system that Ubisoft uses in Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege to prevent intentional team killing.

Arrowhead Game Studios could reduce team killing by rolling out strict punishments for toxic players

Intentional or unintentional, team killing is very common in Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers 2. Most players love to use Red Stratagems on the battlefield without thinking and as a result, they take out their own teammates instead of the enemies. A player on the r/helldivers2 subreddit has showcased the massive friendly damage inflicted by a player on a mission, sparking debates among the community about whether Arrowhead needs to give strict punishments to players who have a high friendly damage.

The easiest solution to this problem is to cut the rewards for players depending on the amount of friendly damage they have caused. This would encourage players to think twice before dropping their offensive Stratagems on their teammates. These players could be marked as “War Criminals” at the end of matches to further shame them for their undemocratic behavior.

For repeated offenders, there could be a “Traitor Mode,” which would completely prevent these players from team killing. This mode would activate reverse friendly fire for the player, inflicting double damage on them instead of the victim.

Helldivers 2 could also have bad sport lobbies like GTA Online

Rockstar Games’ GTA Online is known for its griefers, so the studio came up with a simple solution for this: Bad sport lobbies. Instead of instantly banning a player for disobeying the rules, players are first marked as red on the map for other players. Other players get extra cash for killing these bad sports.

Of course, this did not stop players from griefing, so Rockstar created something called Bad Sport Lobbies. These lobbies are like prisons for players who disobeyed the rules. Getting in a lobby with all these players makes it impossible for one to complete freemode events, so it’s best to avoid getting into such lobbies. Helldivers 2 could also have such lobbies for toxic players, allowing others to enjoy the game peacefully.
