‘He was a character’ – Heartbreak as tributes pour in for tragic Cork restaurant owner after sudden death in Italy

A BELOVED restaurant owner in West Cork is being remembered as X following his sudden death.

It is understood that Rossa Grill owner Giorgio Perrozzi died while in Italy in St Scholastica, Cassino on Monday, February 3.

His official death notice said he died “peacefully in the presence of his loving family”.

A funeral service took place in Italy yesterday to remember his life.

Friends, family and customers in the Clonakilty area have been leaving tributes to the late chip shop owner, remembering his “friendly face” around the town.

One customer said: “I’m very sorry to read of the death of Giorgio or George as we all knew him here in Clonakilty.

“No night out on the town was complete without finishing it off with a feed of burger and chips from the Rossa.”

Another friend said: “Our sincere condolences to Ber and Fabio, Claudia & Natalino on the death of George, our kind neighbour in Rossa Street for over 40 years.

“Many memories in particular the summer of ’94 with Ireland v Italy, and respective tricolours out both windows. Rest in peace George.”

Former customers at the Rossa Grill recalled their friendly interactions over the years, and enjoying chats over the food Giorgio prepared.

Another customer said: “We were sad to hear the death of Giorgio a lot of very happy memories of all the trips to Rossa Grill.

“Our sincere sympathy to Ber and his children and also Johnny. and all his family. May his gentle soul rest in peace.”

Another said: “Sincere symapthy to the Perrozzi family & extended family on the passing of George.

“Fond memories of him when he owned the Rossa Grill in Clonakilty. he loved his cars & his dogs he had the best chips & batter burgers in the 1990s he was a pure gentleman may he rest in peace.”

A friend said: “I have great memories of my banking dealings with him at TSB where he was both a neighbour and client of mine on Rossa Street in Clon.

“He was a character and passionate about his business at the Rossa Grill. He loved to talk about his power boat, his motor bike and of course Italian football.

“I will remember Giorgio as being a gentleman, kind and humerus.”
