Madonna turned down JFK Jr.’s invitation to pose for George

In the late 1980s, it was reported that John F. Kennedy Jr. had a fling with none other than the Queen of Pop, Madonna. In the book The Good Son: JFK Jr. and the Mother He Loved, Christopher Anderson wrote that the same year when JFK Jr. was named People’s Sexiest Man Alive was the year the two began their steamy affair.

Anderson claims in the book (via She Knows),

The only place the superstar couple could let their guard down was in Hyannis Port, where they bundled up in sweaters and jackets and jogged on the beach. Inside the compound, they curled up by the fire, sipping daiquiris from Waterford Crystal glasses.

However, it has been reported that at the time when Madonna and JFK Jr. began their romance, he was still with his girlfriend of five years, Christina Haag, while Madonna was still married to Sean Penn. It was known that Madonna and Sean Penn’s relationship was coming to an end at the time. A friend shared with People,

She came on to him, and it was flattery. She was at the top of her game. He loved her body. It was all about physical attraction; it wasn’t going to be anything beyond that.

The publication reported that JFK Jr. had reached out to the singer to ask her to pose for the cover of his political magazine, George. It was noted that John F. Kennedy Jr. suggested that Madonna pose as his mom on the cover, to which the Queen of Pop swiftly declined. She turned him down via fax, saying,

Dear Johnny Boy, Thanks for asking me to be your mother, but I’m afraid I could never do her justice.

Madonna added that her eyebrows weren’t thick enough for one. According to reports from Esquire, the plan was to shoot the singer looking like Jackie Kennedy.

The publication added that they wanted to make the cover even more provocative because JFK Jr. was rumored to be dating the singer at the time.

JFK Jr.’s mother, Jackie Kennedy, wasn’t ‘fond’ of Madonna

People reported that according to an excerpt from Jackie: Public, Private Secret, Jackie Kennedy wasn’t very thrilled with the idea of her son dating Madonna.

It was rumored at the time that Jackie Kennedy’s issue with Queen of Pop was her resemblance to Marilyn Monroe. [John F Kennedy was linked to Monroe while he was married to Jackie Kennedy] But author J. Randy Taraborrelli mentioned in the book that,

Jackie’s problem with Madonna was that she was married. She was confounded by Madonna’s penchant for attention. Jackie had spent her entire celebrity life avoiding paparazzi, whereas Madonna would court paparazzi. And Jackie just couldn’t understand any of that.

However, for her son, she attended one of Madonna’s plays in disguise, and even though she believed that the singer was good in the show, she didn’t make an effort to meet her backstage. The reason being she didn’t want to validate the relationship that her son had with the Queen of Pop.

The former First Lady’s friend Carly Simon shared with People in 2019 that Jackie Kennedy was consumed with getting her son on the right path and didn’t approve of some of the women he dated. She added that the singer-songwriter horrified the former First Lady.

John F. Kennedy Jr. eventually settled down with Carolyn Bessette, who passed away three years after their marriage in a tragic plane crash in 1996.
