Lisa Rinna and Harry Hamlin were discussing their parenting tactics on daughters Delilah Belle and Amelia Gray when the topic of his past arrests came up.
“I went to jail,” Hamlin, 73, recalled during the Friday, March 21, episode of their “Let’s Not Talk About the Husband” podcast. Rinna, 61, replied, “I forget why you went to jail. Twice for pot?”
“Yeah, you know, I’ve never liked weed. I’ve never really smoked it,” Hamlin said. “I don’t remember buying weed ever in my life.”
However, “every time” Hamlin was around anyone smoking weed, especially in college in 1973, there was an incident that involved the authorities.
“I was arrested along with them, or for some reason,” he said. “I was arrested for sleeping on the beach in the Hamptons, and then the cops found a roach in the sand, and they arrested all of us, and threw us in jail.”
Previously, he was put in handcuffs at the San Francisco airport in 1970.
“An upperclassman at my fraternity house had given me some pills to take to USC during exam period,” Hamlin recalled. “These were speed, to give to people to say awake, so they could do their exams. The cops found the stuff in my guitar case and arrested me for possession of narcotics for sale. I was looking at a three-year sentence in the penitentiary. That’s another story altogether.”
Hamlin said he spent “like 18 days in jail or something like that,” elsewhere in the podcast.
“I was ultimately sentenced to that, but I was arrested and thrown in jail. And then my parents wanted nothing to do with that,” he said. “My girlfriend was running around the courthouse in the morning after I was arrested. I was being arraigned, and she was saying, ‘Is there anybody in the courthouse? I need a lawyer. I need a lawyer.’”
Hamlin added, “it just so happened that the most successful, famous drug lawyer in San Francisco heard her and took my case on pro bono.”

The charges were lowered to a misdemeanor.
Hamlin’s third arrest took place on the beach in Hawaii because his friend was smoking marijuana. (It’s unclear when this incident took place.)
“I was down by the water, looking at the water, and he got arrested,” Hamlin said. “Since I was with him, I got arrested too.”
Rinna, horrified by these revelations by her husband, shared that she had never been arrested.
“You get arrested three times for drugs. Everybody thinks you must be a drug addict. I don’t remember ever even buying drugs,” Hamlin continued. Rinna added, “Harry, after these podcasts, for sure, they’re gonna think we are full on drug addicts. You and me both, by the way.”
