Directed by Kyle Newacheck, Happy Gilmore 2 is an upcoming sports comedy film written by Tim Herlihy and Adam Sandler. The film is the sequel to 1996’s iconic Happy Gilmore and is going to see Sandler, Ben Stiller, Julie Bowen, and others reprise their roles from the original movie.
The original movie, upon release, received mixed reviews from the critics but managed to impress the audience and became a commercial success.

Over the years, Happy Gilmore developed a cult following, especially in the golf community, as the story follows a namesake failed ice hockey player who discovers a talent for golf. He starts to compete in paid tournaments to gather money to stop the foreclosure of his grandmother’s house. The first trailer for the sequel has been released, and it is set to take the millennial audience on a nostalgic trip.
Adam Sandler returns to the golf course with professional golfers in Happy Gilmore 2
The long-awaited sequel to 1996’s Happy Gilmore, which developed a cult following in the golf community, is almost here with Adam Sandler reprising his role as the titular character. Joining Sandler in Happy Gilmore 2 are the stars of the original movie; Julie Bowen, Ben Stiller, and Christopher McDonald.

Actor Christopher McDonald, who played Shooter McGavin in the original movie, was the first person to share an update about the movie back in March 2024. He said on Audacy radio show 92.3. The Fan,
I saw Adam about two weeks ago, and he said, ‘McDonald, you’re going to love this.’ He shows me the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2. He did show me that, and I thought, ‘Wow, that would be awesome.’ So it’s in the works. Fans, demand it, damn it!’
Adam Sandler, upon his appearance on The Tonight Show last year, shared,
It’s good. We worked hard on the script. We didn’t want to let anybody down. People have been asking me for a long time. We’re really excited about it. We wrote our asses off. So many golfers are being nice and will be a part of it.
Netflix later revealed that professional golfers including John Daly, Paige Spiranac, Rory Mcllroy, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, and Will Zalatoris have joined the cast of Happy Gilmore 2. The first teaser of the movie has been released, and it’s nothing but nostalgia for the millennial and, of course, Adam Sandler’s fan.
The teaser shows Sandler in a Boston Bruins jersey, and he will make his way back to the golf course. He says in the teaser, ‘I haven’t swung a club in years.’ To which Bowen, who plays Virginia Venit, tells him, ‘We’re not done with golf. Let them see the Happy I fell in love with.’ Later, Ben Stiller, who appeared in the original movie as Hal, was also seen in the trailer.
Pro Shop founder Chad Mumm, who is the co-producer on the movie, shared with THR,
I think Adam Sandler’s experience doing his 2022 basketball movie Hustle and really making basketball authentic in that movie, he wanted to bring some of that energy to Happy Gilmore. Obviously, it’s tonally very different, but they wanted the golf to feel really real, and they wanted a lot of present-day and historical pro golfers to come and make cameos in the film.
Mumm noted that the studios reached out to them to help them in getting a bunch of golfers to make a cameo in the movie. They are also co-producing the movie.
Bad Bunny, Sunny & Sadie Sandler join the cast of Happy Gilmore 2 with others
Apart from bringing the original cast members, Netflix revealed Happy Gilmore is set to feature new cast members, including Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio [Bad Bunny], Sunny and Sadie Sandler, Margaret Qualley, Blake Clark, and others.
It has also been reported that Travis Kelce will be making a cameo in the movie as well. He is set to make his acting debut in Ryan Murphy’s Grotesquerie alongside Niecy Nash. Adam Sandler shared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,
We have a nice something for Travis. He’s going to come by. He’s a very nice guy. You guys would love him in real life. What a big, handsome guy—funny and cool as hell. He’s a stud.
Earlier, the Kansas City Chiefs shared on his New Heights podcast that he’d do anything to be in the Happy Gilmore sequel. In addition to Kelce, Sandler had also confirmed that Rap God, Eminem, is also set to make his cameo in the movie. The actor mentioned on the Dan Patrick Show that he’s known Eminem for a really long time, and he’s a great guy.

Sandler went on to tease Eminem’s character by sharing that the rapper came in and was funny as hell, noting that it felt like they just hung out with him and shot. Adam Sandler also added that Eminem said a million things they can use. Talking about Sunny and Sadie Sandler joining the cast, it’s not new that the daughters have joined their father on-screen, as they have been working with him for more than a decade.
Sunny and Sadie Sandler have appeared in Don’t Mess with the Zohan, Grown Ups, Jack & Jill, Sandy Wexler, Hubie Halloween, Home Team, and You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah. As of now, it’s not clear what roles the daughters will be playing in the movie, but Netflix announced that they have officially joined their father for yet another movie.
At the premiere of Spacemen in 2024, Adam Sandler was asked if working with his daughters is his way of spending time with them, to which he joked that they still don’t talk. The actor shared with People that the daughters want to do their own thing, noting that they do the best they can, and they can go do their lives. Julie Bowen had also shared that with People.
He’s always been so down-to-earth, but Jackie [Sandler], she is just the loveliest person, and his daughters, Sunny and Sadie, it’s like soup, you know when it’s better the next day? They’ve just made him even better.
The Modern Family actress added to the conversation that it warms the cockles of her heart to see him being a girl dad. She noted that it’s like magic watching him cuddle up to his girls.
Happy Gilmore 2 is set to release on July 25, 2025.
