Gwyneth Paltrow Name Drops the A-List Friends Who Inspired Her To Return To Acting

Gwyneth Paltrow doesn’t have to look outside of her A-list friend group to find inspiration for her acting career!

After drastically cutting back her film roles over the past 15 years, the actress returns to screen in Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme, which is set to release at the end of 2025 and is already garnering awards buzz. While speaking to Vanity Fair in a March 18 profile, Paltrow credited two of her celebrity friends for inspiring her to get back into acting: Demi Moore and Cameron Diaz.

“It’s so fucking rad what’s happening,” Paltrow told Vanity Fair in her interview, which was conducted the day Moore was nominated for an Oscar for her role in The Substance, her first Oscar nomination at age 62.

Though Moore’s comeback will certainly provide comfort to Paltrow, it was Diaz who really helped ease her self-doubt when she considered flexing her acting muscles once more.

“Cameron Diaz is one of my best friends, sorry to name-drop,” Paltrow said, adding that Diaz encouraged her to “think about the richness and the deepening of your life.” Like Paltrow, Diaz took an extended hiatus from acting and returned last year for Netflix’s Back in Action. The close friends spent their time out of Hollywood raising their kids and building their businesses.

“That’s all material,” Paltrow said of the experiences she’s had over the past decade and a half. “I’ve gone through a lot since the last time I was onscreen in a real way.”

In Marty Supreme, Paltrow stars alongside Timothée Chalamet. Chalamet plays the film’s titular character, a 1950s ping-pong champion and hustler who is having a fling with Paltrow’s character.
