Germany’s ‘City of Money’ has a wealth of cultural highlights to cash in on

I KNEW that I was quids in when I arrived at my hotel in Frankfurt.

Not only is the German destination known as the City of Money — my hotel was literally covered in it.

The stunning Hotel nhow Frankfurt perfectly showcases the city’s wealth with a theme of cash and riches running through the whole building.

The art of money is on show throughout from the reception, which looked like it was covered in long gold bars, to the staircase that was wrapped inside stunning gold rings that looked like huge coins.

The hotel has a total of 375 rooms — and it’s here where the theme of money really comes to life.

Each room is designed around wealth and riches and is decorated with unexpected details.

Every room has little gold touches and wallpaper designed with currencies from around the world, and every room number is printed on massive floor-to-ceiling credit cards papered to the walls next to each door.

My massive room was on the 12th floor and my bed was surrounded by a stunning mural of bank notes and dollar signs that stretched from the headboard all the way on to the ceiling.

And because it was up so high, I had stunning panoramic views of the whole city right from my bed thanks to the huge windows offering uninterrupted stunning skyline vistas — if I could have spent the whole trip sitting on the bed staring out at the city beneath me I would have!

The hotel is housed in the ONE by CA Immo skyscraper and is 47 floors high and slap bang in the heart of the booming European Quarter and right next to the Frankfurt trade fair.

Frankfurt is a city reborn from the rubble after it was destroyed in the Second World War and has gone on to become an urban jungle,  crawling with business people.

The city has a strong reputation for financial stability.

No wonder then it’s the 13th-wealthiest city in the world and is the most important financial hub in continental Europe.

Before venturing out to take in the culture and riches, the hotel’s  Rich Barista coffee shop was a must for a nice strong freshly brewed cup and a snack to fuel me up for exploration.

For those who want to have something a bit more substantial for breakfast in the morning, like a stack of fluffy pancakes or a freshly baked croissant, the restaurant is on the fourth floor.

With inspiring and vibrant designs and full of natural daylight, it’s the perfect place to start your day.

And when you come back after a day out,  unwind at the Gold Bar (of course!) to sip on a cocktail or glass of wine.

If fitness is more your thing, then you can work out in the gym or just be like me and take it easy and relax in the sauna.

Frankfurt is a city glinting with glass, steel and concrete skyscrapers and nowhere is its wealth more evident than in  ‘Mainhattan’, the business hub that’s home to one of the world’s largest stock exchanges.

It is also the HQ of the European Central Bank, and famously hosts some of the world’s most important trade fairs, attracting thousands of business travellers.

But the city also has a beautiful medieval Altstadt (Old Town), where traditional taverns serve up apfelwein (apple wine) and cute cafes dish up delicious local and regional fare.

There’s also plenty of pretty boutiques and street art, and beautiful parks, gardens and riverside paths to discover away from ‘Wall Street’.

Exhausted from pounding the streets, I made my way to the hotel’s pièce de résistance — The NFT Skybar, the highest rooftop bar in Germany.

It’s located on the 47th floor, which is a whopping 185m above the ground, and is so high that my ears actually popped in the lift up to it.

As soon as I stepped out, I was greeted with a dark hallway decorated with beautiful bright stars and constellations. Gorgeous.

The hallway led to the glass doors that open up into the massive bar, which has gorgeous views over the city, stretching for miles.

The 360-degree outdoor terrace has very comfortable and welcoming seats and chairs where I  enjoyed the sunset sipping on a selection of delicious cocktails.

The NFT bar offers non-fungible tokens (NFTs) as part of its experience, and hosts events with digital artists.

We were treated to a night with David Zuker, who not only designed the art in each of the rooms, but created a collection of NFTs that feature on the Skybar’s cocktail list.

My pals and I got to try samples of all of them — lucky us — and we each picked our favourites as we ate moreish dishes that were perfectly paired with each drink.

Having a sweet tooth, I loved the sweet Strawberry Velvet and the fruity Tropical Twist, which both tasted as delicious as they looked.

What a fabulous way to end my stay in this German gem.

Waking up next morning, I caught the last golden glimmer of the sunrise and soaked it all in before dragging myself out of my comfy bed.

As I headed home, I knew I had found a little nugget of gold in the heart of Frankfurt, and I can’t wait to return to cash in once again.
