The future of the Diamond Mountain Speedway remains uncertain as the Lassen County Fair Entertainment Advisory Board prepares to meet with local racers to discuss the possibility of racing this year. The meeting, scheduled for 5 p.m. at Jensen Hall, will address ongoing concerns regarding the operation of the speedway.
The county’s attempts to secure a contractor to manage the speedway have faced challenges. An initial call for proposals yielded no responses, and the sole proposal received during the second round was ultimately rejected. Reina Davis, who submitted this proposal, expressed her confusion and frustration over the rejection, suspecting it might be due to her gender.
The racing community has shown strong support for Davis, with many members willing to collaborate with her to address any operational challenges at the speedway. During a prior advisory board meeting, community members were unable to discuss the issue as it wasn’t on the agenda. However, tomorrow’s meeting will provide an opportunity for open dialogue.
The outcome of the meeting could determine whether the sound of racing engines will be heard at the speedway this year. The racing community is hopeful for a resolution that allows the continuation of events at the venue.
