“Evil Queen is the most interesting character”: Scandalous ‘Snow White’ Take Claims She’s Just an “uninteresting plot device” in 1937 Version

The animation genre has been taking the Hollywood industry by storm in recent years, with several blockbuster movies at the box office. But the one that paved the way for everyone was Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, released all the way back in 1937. It came at a time when not a lot was known about the genre, and it’s safe to say that almost nine decades later it still remains a timeless classic.

However, throughout the years several controversial claims have been made challenging its legacy. Also, Snow White as a character adds zero value to the movie and is just there so that the story moves forward. The same has resurfaced again on social media, where a user has detailed more on why Snow White is not actually a fully realized character.

User detailed why Snow White adds no value to the storyline of the 1937 classic

The animation movie genre is among the most popular areas of the movie business, with several blockbuster movies out there. From the Toy Story franchise to Inside Out 2, crossing billions at the box office, fans really love watching such storylines. While it surely enjoys a huge fan following, all of this started gaining momentum when Disney released Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937.

It became quite popular, and now, even after almost nine decades, it still remains a golden crown of the animation genre. However, with success, it has also been criticized on several accounts, with users detailing a glaring problem in its storyline and the lead character, Snow White.

The same resurfaced on X recently when a user detailed why Snow White is little more than an “uninteresting plot device” and the real star of the movie is actually the Evil Queen.

The main element of the entire debate is that the lead character lacks depth and serves no purpose other than being the passive figure around whom the plot revolves. Also, unlike other Disney heroines, Snow White doesn’t make decisions that shape her own storyline and fate.

Instead, she’s always seen running away in fear, relying on the Dwarfs to protect her and ultimately needing a prince to wake her up from the poisoned sleep. While her kindness and innocence have been cited as strengths, these qualities alone do not make her the lead heroine of the movie. But on the other hand, the user also added that the “Evil Queen is the most interesting character.”

The reasons are that her intense vanity and obsession with being the “fairest of them all” were the true driving force of the entire storyline. So, unlike Snow White, she adds more plotting and scheming into the movie just to protect and maintain her power.

While she’s obviously the villain of the story, her motivations are at least understandable, making her one of the most memorable Disney antagonists.

Rachel Zegler’s Snow White gets a mixed bag of reactions from viewers

Actress Rachel Zegler‘s portrayal of the Disney princess Snow White has gathered a wide range of reactions, with critics being divided on both her performance and the movie. Some have praised her natural charm and commitment to the role, but others have added that her performance alone cannot save the lackluster performance of the movie.

Zegler’s participation in the movie was not an easy one, and as soon as she stepped into the role, she was widely criticized. This was mainly due to the fact that she was a Latina, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, she delivered her role “with conviction and heart.” And while the movie has a lot of flaws, her performance remained entertaining till the end.

But not everyone had nice things to say, and some critics also argued that her character was overshadowed in the movie by its chaotic execution and awful CGI mistakes. The Daily Beast went as far as to describe it as “the latest Mouse House re-do of them all,” and Rolling Stone calls it one of the most uninspired live-action adaptations to date.

While these were some of many reviews, it’s safe to say that while the movie is gaining a lot of criticism, Rachel Zegler’s performance has mostly been appreciated.
