The galaxy of Helldivers 2 continues to expand faster than a Bile Titan on a growth hormone binge. While players are busy turning bugs into paste and robots into scrap metal, there’s one frontier that Arrowhead has firmly locked down: player versus player combat.

CCO Johan Pilestedt couldn’t be clearer about PvP, stating they’ll “never” add such a mode to reduce “toxic elements” from the community. But what if there was a way to implement competitive play without sacrificing the cooperative spirit that makes spreading managed democracy so darn enjoyable?
After all, with friendly fire already causing more Helldiver deaths than actual enemies (we’ve all been there), maybe there’s room for a little structured chaos in our perfectly democratic society.
What if Super Earth faced enemies from within?
The beauty of Helldivers 2 lies in its satirical take on militaristic propaganda and blind patriotism. So, why not lean into that narrative with a “training simulation” that pits loyal Helldivers against a fictional rogue faction?
Imagine dropping into a specially designed arena where half the squad plays as “Liberty’s Defenders” while the others take on the role of “Democracy’s Betrayers”—former Helldivers who’ve gone rogue after discovering some dark truth about Super Earth’s managed democracy. It’s not real PvP; it’s patriotic training! You know, preparing our finest for the dangers ahead!
This approach wouldn’t contradict Arrowhead’s vision of keeping the community united against common enemies. Instead, it would frame competitive play as another form of preparation for the real fight, complete with the same over-the-top propaganda that makes the game so charming.
The mode could feature balanced, pre-set loadouts to prevent meta-gaming, and perhaps even unique objectives beyond simple team deathmatch—like securing “classified documents” or destroying “treasonous propaganda.”
How this could actually work without breaking Helldivers’ spirit

The current “Chaosdivers” problem—those players who drop into missions just to teamkill—shows there’s already an appetite for causing mayhem. A structured PvP mode could channel these disruptive tendencies into a controlled environment, keeping the main cooperative experience pure.
This separation would preserve the supportive community Arrowhead has cultivated while giving players who crave competition a sanctioned outlet. It’s like having a designated demolition derby track instead of letting people crash their cars on the highway.
The mode could even tie into the ongoing galactic war, with victories contributing to a separate “Internal Security” campaign that runs parallel to the fights against Terminids, Automatons, and the recently returned Illuminate.
Best of all, it would maintain the game’s unique identity. Arrowhead doesn’t need to need to copy what every other shooter does—this would be competitive play with that special Helldivers 2 flavor of absurdity and propaganda that we have come to love.
What do you think? Would a “training simulation” against rogue Helldivers be a good addition to the game, or should Arrowhead stick to their guns and keep PvP out entirely? Drop your thoughts in the comments below!
