‘Drive to Survive’ Season 7 Did No Favor to Its Newest Villain With Geri Halliwell’s Screentime Over Yuki Tsunoda

One can understand the fascination behind an icon like the Spice Girls regularly gracing the Formula 1 paddock with their presence. However, even for Drive to Survive, shifting their focus on Christian Horner’s wife aka Ginger Spice Geri Halliwell is a new low.

After the scandalous events of February 2024 that led to an internal investigation into Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner, and almost cleaved the team into two, Netflix is running full steam ahead in contributing to the reparation of Horner’s image. But as expected of the docu-series, the drama always comes at the expense of another.

Netflix has become infamous for its fabricated and nonsensical storylines regarding Formula 1 that use fake and misleading narratives to lure in fans. But miraculously, Drive to Survive has not only survived the stain in its reputation but grown even more popular with each season over the years.

Now in its seventh installment, the Netflix docu-series takes one of the biggest F1 scandals of 2024 and uses it to the show’s advantage. When Red Bull team principal Christian Horner was accused by a female employee of inappropriate behavior and s*xual misconduct, a month-long investigation threatened to tear the team apart.

Drive to Survive shines the spotlight on the escalating events of the scandal as it captures the unfolding narrative in real time on camera and perfectly portrays the rising tension on the paddock. Despite being cleared of any and all wrongdoing, a lingering feeling haunted Horner as he entered and exited the Formula 1 grid in the beginning of the 2024 Grand Prix season.

While one episode was simply not enough to capture the scandal at length, Drive to Survive used its best tools to reflect the tense reactions and wavering loyalties within the Red Bull team, all while Christian Horner struggled to maintain a sense of normalcy on and off the grid.

With her husband’s reputation, team, and career at stake, Geri Halliwell appeared in Drive to Survive Season 7 armed with nothing other than a confident smile and her utter support. On more than one occasion, Halliwell was filmed entering and exiting the paddock hand in hand with Christian Horner, but the couple may have gone overboard with their publicity show.

Fans, who are more ready to believe in the cynical nature of celebrities, have pointed out that Christian Horner being accompanied to the paddock by his wife, Geri Halliwell, looks extremely suspicious, especially considering the scandal that broke out in February about Horner’s s*xual misconduct.

In a Reddit thread, one fan claimed:

Statistically speaking, Geri Halliwell received more screentime throughout the latest season of Drive to Survive than Yuki Tsunoda, Nico Hülkenberg, and Valtteri Bottas, and that already says something about the lengths that Netflix is ready to go to for cashing in on clickbait material for its reality TV-addicted fanbase.

Drive to Survive Seasons 1-7 are available to stream on Netflix.
