Deidara Sitting on Gaara’s Corpse Was Easily One of the Most Disrespectful Moment Masashi Kishimoto Could Come Up in Naruto

Naruto is usually excitable and thrilling. There are only a few moments that leave the readers and audience in genuine anger and shock. A Shonen anime isn’t meant to provoke such feelings of disdain and hatred. However, there are just some scenes fans cannot forget.

Deidara might not be the biggest antagonist in Naruto. He’s a small fry compared to Madara Uchiha but he’s an Akatsuki nonetheless, and Kishimoto wanted us to remember that. His arrogant and self-centered nature makes him the perpetrator of some of the most respectful moments.

There was no reason Deidara had to sit on Gaara’s corpse after he sacrificed himself

Naruto fans can all agree Gaara’s redemption arc was brilliant. He had no friends or allies until he met his fellow Jinchuriki Naruto, who found his strength through friendship. So he began learning from this.

Gaara went from being a bloodthirsty, ruthless Jinchuriki of the One-Tailed Shukaku to the fifth Kazekage of Sunagakure. He showed himself to be a selfless leader when he used his sand as a shield from Deidara’s explosion to protect his village against massive destruction.

His act of sacrifice was soured by Deidara sitting on his corpse, while casually talking to his partner, Sasori, about art.

Naruto fans have never been more shocked and angry. It was perhaps Masashi Kishimoto reminding us how evil the Akatsuki can be. Not all of them are tragic, sympathetic villains.

Naruto fans knew his sardonic personality beforehand. Deidara didn’t need to sit on Gaara’s corpse to prove it, of course, but it was a display of how he loves to humiliate others, even after defeat and death.

Some began to actually like his character. Deidara was a very different flavor of villain. He doesn’t deserve any sympathy and for a villain, that’s an effective way to characterize them.

Deidara might not have been the big bad in Naruto but he was a great villain

The Akatsuki member was obviously not meant to be in the ranks of Kaguya or Madara. However, his insignificance is what made him a great villain to Naruto fans. He’s a nuisance without being too important and his theatrical personality made him memorable.

Deidara is hilariously arrogant and his appreciation for art makes it even worse. He reminded fans of real-life theater kids who would annoy you by just existing. Him sitting on Gaara was just the cherry on top of his already inconvenient existence. Naruto fans probably celebrated when Sasuke ruthlessly fought him.

His death was satisfying. Deidara was being outsmarted by Sasuke at every turn and humiliated, especially when he was only testing himself before facing Itachi. However, his brother quickly humbled him.

Kishimoto ending his arc by exploding himself is quite poetic and in character. Deidara couldn’t handle the defeat and proved that he had overestimated himself. It suffices to say he paid his dues after sitting on Gaara’s corpse.

Naruto is available on Crunchyroll.
