Daredevil: Born Again was finally released to the world and fans are clearly enjoying the show for which they had been waiting for years. Charlie Cox shines once again as blind attorney Matt Murdock in the show and fans couldn’t be more pleased with the actor.

There was something impeccable about the casting of Charlie Cox in the role of Matt Murdock especially with his background. Cox didn’t grow up in comic books and therefore, he had no idea who Daredevil was before being cast in the role!
Why Charlie Cox was the perfect Daredevil
It may come to several people as a shock but Cox had never read the comic books while growing up. According to the actor, he had no idea who Daredevil was before he got an opportunity to audition for the role.

Before Daredevil: Born Again took the world by storm, it was the 2015 Netflix series Daredevil that shot Cox’s name to fame. The actor found worldwide love and critical acclaim for his portrayal and fans simply wanted more.
Although the series was canceled after 3 seasons, it was picked up by Marvel once again which resulted in Daredevil: Born Again. In a 2015 interview with A Place 2 Hang Your Cape, Cox talked about how there was a crash course involved when he got selected.
No, this is all very new to me. I now feel like I’ve had a crash course in the last year since I got the job. But I didn’t grow up on comic books at all. There was something quite nice about the fact that I didn’t have any preconceived ideas.
He further continued,
I hadn’t grown up with Daredevil so I didn’t have an opinion on what the show should be like and who Matt Murdock should be. So what I was able to do was read the scripts and then go back to the back catalogue and find the different series and different writers and illustrators that best represented the show that was being written, so I could concentrate on them.
He ended the statement by saying that if he had read the comic books, they “probably wouldn’t have cast me as Matt Murdock.” Although it was a risky move, it was for the best of the show.
Charlie Cox’s crash course on Daredevil paid off well since the world loved him in the role of Matt Murdock when the 2015 Netflix show was released. However, that doesn’t mean that Cox didn’t have to deal with the negativity.
People didn’t like Charlie Cox’s face initially?
Well, he was not a well-known actor at that time and of course, casting someone in a role like Daredevil required some hands-on expertise (remember Ben Affleck’s Daredevil?).

So when the decision was finalized, the news was spread on the internet that Charlie Cox was going to be the new Daredevil. During his continued interview, Cox revealed that he got a very funny negative reception during those times.
My mum sent me one that she thought was quite amusing. Someone had blogged when they had cast me, ‘I don’t know who this guy is, but I don’t like his face.’
He further continued,
I’m trying to impress my bosses rather than everyone else and hope that the fans concur with them when the show is released. You can’t please everyone, so you gotta do your best.
Luckily, the fans immediately fell in love with Charlie Cox as soon as he donned the cape of Daredevil in the Netflix show. The 2015 series was a game-changer for the world and now Daredevil: Born Again is here to do just that.
Born Again currently stands at a rating of 8.7/10 on IMDb and an equally high of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. The iconic show is available to stream on Disney+.
