Jai McDowall has announced that he is set to leave the operatic group[/caption]

G4 are the four-piece vocal troupe that first rose to fame on The X Factor in 2004.

The operatic band finished the ITV competition as the runners-up in the first ever series.

They have become known over the years for their operatic stylings of modern tracks after they were mentored by Louis Walsh.

In 2023, Jai McDowall, 38, replaced Lewis Raines, the low tenor, in the group.

But two years later, he has announced his decision to depart the band to pursue a solo career.

This will be after the Phantoms of the Popera UK and Ireland tour in July.

From April, the group will celebrate the greatest hits from musicals of the West End and Broadway on stage.

The singer announced his decision to leave the band in a video that was posted on the official Instagram account.

He appeared in a video on a balcony overlooking Westminster Abbey in London with the rest of the group, announcing his farewell shows.

In the clip, he explained: “I’ve absolutely loved my time with the group. It’s been incredible recording the 20th anniversary album, touring around the UK for 20th anniversary tour.

“Touring around at Christmas time, seeing all the wonderful venues that we played, and also meeting all you wonderful fans. It’s been great.

“Thank you very much for embracing me and showing me with all the love and all the gifts and all the craziness.

“It’s been absolutely fantastic. When John first called me up to invite me into the group, I didn’t think it was for me. I didn’t think I’d fit in,

“So I said, No, he cried a little bit. He phoned me up about three times a day. He convinced me to join, and here I am, but I’m glad I did, because I’ve learned so much with the guys, and I’ve met so many of you, and it’s been wonderful.”

But it’s time for me to step away and pursue my own solo endeavors.

He then introduced his replacement, Michael Conway, who it turns out is already performing with huge stars.

“But it’s time for me to step away and pursue my own solo endeavors. So with that, I’d love to introduce the lovely Michael my replacement.

“He is just about to go on tour with Michael Ball and Alfie Boe, so hopefully some of you can catch him on that.

“But in the meantime, you can get tickets to my farewell tour, which is going to be Phantoms of the Popera, and it concludes with three shows in my hometown, which is going to be absolutely epic.”

He added: “So hopefully if I don’t see you, I’ll see you somewhere else around the UK.

“Thank you very much for all the wonderful memories, and I’ll see you soon.”

The video ended with the new member calling his father to break the news that he has joined G4.

His bandmates were all crowded into the red phone box in London as he imparted the exciting personal update.
