Celtic star sparks worrying injury fears as he’s ruled out of international duty for crucial Nations League games

AUSTON TRUSTY missed Sunday’s Old Firm defeat to Rangers through injury.

And the Celtic defender won’t return in time to feature for his national team either as USA boss Mauricio Pochettino has removed the player from his squad following his latest setback.

Trusty, 26, was due to feature for his country this international break with two potentially massive clashes on the horizon.

The US national team will be crowned the Concacaf Nations League champions if they win both of their next two games.

They face Jamaica in the semi-final on Thursday, March 20, before then taking on the winner of either Canada or Mexico in the final showpiece four days later.

Both Trusty and Cameron Carter-Vickers were called up by the former Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea boss.

But the national team have tonight released a statement confirming the ex-Arsenal defender had to be replaced in the 23-man squad.

Trusty has been ruled out alongside Antonee Robinson and Johnny Cardoso, with Max Arfsten, Brian Gutierrez and Jack McGlynn taking their places.

Trusty was a huge miss for Celts on Sunday as Maik Nawrocki partnered Carter-Vickers in his absence.

The Polish centre-back was brought in from the cold for the derby showdown but managed to hold his own in the game, despite Hoops crashing to a 3-2 home defeat.

Speaking before the clash, Rodgers admitted Trusty had been struggling with a “slight” knock and that’s why he was unavailable.

He said: “Auston picked up a slight calf knock so he trained yesterday and likewise (to Callum McGregor) he was too sore.”
