Celtic hero blasts Rangers Old Firm celebrations as ‘slightly embarrassing’ and reminds Gers of Premiership points gap

RANGERS boss Barry Ferguson urged his players to ‘enjoy the next couple of days’ as they celebrated a first victory at Celtic in five years.

But one Celtic hero has blasted the Ibrox men for the amount of celebrating they did on the Parkhead pitch after full-time.

Alan Thompson was quick to congratulate Rangers on the victory on X, formerly Twitter, but included a caveat for the praise given the current league standings.

He said: “Don’t be bitter!

“Well done to Rangers today on your three points.

“Your celebrations after the game were slightly embarrassing, considering you’re 13 points off the pace.

“Correct me if I’m wrong?”

Ex-Gers coach Alex Rae posted a video from the away end as the visiting supporters revelled in the result with the players and coaching staff.

And before that, Rangers winger Vaclav Cerny enraged the Celtic support by squirting them with a WATER BOTTLE as he celebrated Hamza Igamane‘s winning goal.

Thompson had more joy in another Sunday fixture, as he watched boyhood club Newcastle win the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool.

He posted: “Not a great start to a super Sunday!

Celtic lose but still 13 points ahead of nearest opposition.

“Proud to be a Geordie and watch Newcastle win the cup.”

Thompson started his career with the Magpies, also enjoying spells with Bolton and Aston Villas before moving to Celtic in 2000.

The midfielder won four league titles, three Scottish Cups and a League Cup in his silverware-laden seven years with the Hoops.

He even won a first England cap whilst at Parkhead, and remains the last player to earn their maiden Three Lions call-up whilst playing for Celts.
