THOUSANDS have turned out in support for Ukraine, as a sea of blue and yellow marches through London, demanding an end to Putin’s war.
The protesters, who gathered for the third-year anniversary of the invasion, marched on the Russian embassy to call for a withdrawal of troops.
Protesters at the front of the march were carrying a banner which said “Russian Troops Out! Solidarity with Ukraine”.
Chants being recited by the crowd included “Trump you’re no friend, you’re a traitor to Ukraine” and “Putin you can’t hide, we accuse you of genocide”.
Many of the protesters were carrying Ukrainian flags, with numerous UK and Poland flags also in the crowd.
They began at the St Volodymyr statue, a national saint of Ukraine – lead by Ukrainian singers from the Hromada choir.
They then marched from the statue, erected in 1988 to commemorate the 1,000th anniversary of the Christianisation of Ukraine, to the Russian embassy at Kensington Palace Gardens.
A coalition of Ukrainian community and UK-based labour organisations attended the rally.
The march comes amid fears Ukraine is being frozen out of peace talks between Moscow and US President Donald Trump.
In a joint statement, the organisers of Saturday’s march said Ukraine has been made vulnerable by not being provided with enough aid to defeat Russia and is being “expected to consign its own citizens to occupation under a deal imposed by Trump”.
They added that they were calling for “renewed solidarity, that peace must come with the full withdrawal of Russian forces”, as well as for a “surge in military aid to strengthen Ukraine in any negotiations and be able to finally end the occupation if no just agreement is secured”.
Olena Ivashchenko, director of Campaign for Ukraine, said Kyiv’s future was “being decided by politicians behind closed doors” and that “true and sustainable peace cannot be achieved without justice”.
She said: “We call for Russia to withdraw its troops from all of Ukraine, for Trump to end his backroom power games and for the UK to strengthen its leadership in safeguarding Ukraine’s sovereignty and Europe‘s security.”
The Trades Union Congress (TUC) supported the demonstration alongside national unions including GMB, Unison and the NUM.
Barbara Plant, president of GMB, said the union “remains firmly in solidarity with the Ukrainian people in their fight for freedom from Russian military aggression”.
Ms Plant said: “Only the ability for the Ukrainian people to truly determine their own future free from Putin’s occupation will bring about a just or lasting peace, and certainly not an alliance of oligarchs.”
The event was organised by the Ukrainian Solidarity Campaign, alongside other Ukrainian community groups and civil society organisations.
Mariia Pastukh, of Vsesvit Ukraine solidarity collective, said the location of the rally near the Russian embassy was to draw attention to “Russia’s imperialist ambitions, which fuelled its brutal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine”.
She said: “We demand that Russia’s crimes in Ukraine not be forgotten.
“Legitimising this aggression by accepting the occupation would embolden dictators around the world.”
Christopher Ford, secretary of the Ukraine Solidarity Campaign, said: “The millions who have stood by Ukraine are appalled at the conduct of Trump and threat of betrayal, promises made to do whatever it takes to help Ukraine win have collapsed without any explanation.
“We must show that this is not inevitable and raise our voices that a partition and occupation is not a sustainable peace, the UK and Europe must not repeat the errors of 1930s appeasement.”

GRAEME SOUNESS finished his 21 year senior career in Scotland with Rangers.

But he has revealed that he was once on the RECEIVING end of a harsh challenge that taught him a big lesson.
And it came during his time at Middlesborough at the beginning of his career when he faced a Leeds side.
He came up against their own hard man in Terry Yorath, who ended up sidelining Souness with injury for a number of months due to his tackle.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Souness said: “I thoroughly enjoyed watching a game of football on Monday night, Leeds United against Sunderland.
“Two sides who will be seeing themselves as potential Premier League teams and with good reason.
“Elland Road has always been a difficult place to go. As a 19-year-old at Middlesbrough, I just caught the tail end of their great side of the 1970s and in more ways than one.
“I got hit with a challenge from Terry Yorath at Ayresome Park, it ruled me out for three months and gave me a lesson well learned as I was never caught again that badly.
“Leeds has always been a passionate football club, which is what I like, and that’s what made playing there such a great experience and so special.
“Seeing over 36,000 roaring on their team on Monday, it was a proper game. The caveat being, if they get into the Premier League they will have to have a more pragmatic and less cavalier approach to survive with the big boys.”

RONNIE Vint is cashing in on his fresh Love Island All Stars fame with a series of solo club appearances.
The semi-pro footballer, 28 – who partnered with ex Harriett Blackmore, 24, in the ITV2 spin-off series after they decided to give things another go – narrowly missed out on the final.
Yet the sports star is still in high demand if his recent bookings are anything to go by.
While Brighton dancer Harriett ditched her man for a night out with BFF Saffron Barker earlier this week, Ronnie has ventured to Leeds for a Meet And Greet.
Following his event at the northern city’s Paradiso club on Friday, he will tonight head to Worcester for a similar event.
It’ll be a long night for the star, with the party night running until 4am.
Yet Love Island loyals have been left hugely excited by the potential for a glimpse of Ronnie – or even a meet and greet.
One took to Instagram to write: “Omgggg I want to cryyyyy!!”
Another posted: “Is this actually for real?” while a third put: “Guuuu on theeeennn.”
Harriett and Ronnie recently returned to the UK after their time in the South African villa – with Harriett being treated to a special welcome home party documented on Instagram.
Their last day in the villa was full of drama after axed Islanders returned to dump one couple.
Liv Hawkins suggested Harriett and Ronnie – who split weeks after leaving the villa last year – wouldn’t work given their history.
And during Monday night’s finale Harriett made her feelings towards Liv very clear.
Amy Hart said to Harriett in the Love Island live stream on TikTok before the final aired: “You’re a girls’ girl.

It came after Ronnie threatened to expose Liv in an awkward moment on live TV.
ANDREW Conway shared a photo from a Munster reunion that went down very well with Reds supporters.
The setting was London and the reason was to catch up with club legend Doug Howlett while he was in the northern hemisphere.
As Conway explained, it turned out to be a night for them all to cherish though,

The blast from the past was warmly received by Reds fans who surely couldn’t but yearn from the days when they were every bit as much of a European force as Leinster.
Aileen McCarthy commented: “Amazing talent sitting at that table….”
Whilst Laura Mulcahy added: “Lots of old Munster legends there… Mick O was one of my favourite players.”
Similarly, Paul Leahy praised: “Heroes every one of you!”
Former Munster stalwart-turned RTE star Donncha O’Callaghan wasn’t there in person but commented his approval with a loveheart emoji.
Of the former stars that had assembled, Keith Earls and Billy Holland were there alongside Conway to represent the younger bucks from the glory days.
Conway’s career was cut short by persistent knee injuries in November 2023 at the age of only 32.
But he has embarked on a new odyssey in the business world to preoccupy himself in his post-playing life.
Last month he launched a consultancy firm aimed at helping high-level professionals and elite athletes maximise their potential.
He has been busy since hanging up his boots, starting a four-year Professional Doctorate in Human Performance and Innovation from the University of Limerick.
This will go along with his 2011 Diploma in Sport Psychology at Dublin’s Institute of Art, Design and Technology.
Combining this latest academic qualification with his experience of the highs and lows of top-level sport he has founded 5XFlow.
In a reflective Instagram post, the former wing detailed how he settled upon how to tackle his post-rugby life.
Conway won 30 caps with Ireland, scoring 15 tries and was part of the team that won a Test series in Australia.
After joining Munster from Leinster in 2013, he made 150 appearances for the province, scoring 50 tries.
