Ruby Walsh reveals Michael O’Sullivan airport encounter as he pays tribute to jockey who ‘left his mark on this world’

RUBY WALSH has paid a beautiful tribute to Michael O’Sullivan by revealing the Irish jockey’s exchange with a stranger at Dublin Airport.

O’Sullivan, 24, tragically died on Sunday morning having suffered a brain injury from a devastating fall at Thurles.

His passing has left the horse-racing community in mourning, with the likes of Willie Mullins, Gordon Elliott, and Rachael Blackmore paying tribute.

Writing for the Irish Examiner, former jockey Ruby Walsh lamented that there was “no rhyme or reason” to explain the Corkman’s death.

He praised him for “never being afraid to go where racing brought him”, a trait which was exemplified during one trip to Heathrow.

He was scheduled to be racing at Windsor on January 17 to ride for Harry Derham on ITV having opted for the UK over a race in Cork.

Walsh met O’Sullivan at Dublin Airport the day before and revealed that the 24-year-old got into a conversation with a stranger, explaining the intimate workings of his saddle.

The 45-year-old explained: “What weight it was, what the leathers and irons were, how the girth would hold it on and how many others he had — every detail he could think of.

“And it felt like the lady who didn’t know what he was carrying would be able to saddle a horse by the time she had boarded the plane.”

Walsh admitted that “there will never be an explanation” for which O’Sullivan’s “rollercoaster ride is over”.

But he believes he will leave a lasting impact on the sport and those within it.

Walsh added: “He understood the game and never burned a bridge. He was never afraid to ask for help and always took advice on board.

“There will never be an explanation for why he met the fate that he has, but some lucky soul somewhere got one huge, healthy, and brave heart yesterday when Michael’s was handed over.

“What he gave away on his way out the door will have saved a few from following him, but his mark on this world means more will want to follow what he did.

“Those who have lost a son, a brother, a nephew, a grandson, a partner, a friend and those who have lost a colleague are looking at this rollercoaster ride in devastation.”

Details of O’Sullivan’s funeral were revealed on Monday morning, alongside an emotional tribute from his family.

On RIP.ie, his family paid an emotional tribute to the Corkman, posting: “Michael had accomplished so much in his short life.

“As a family we are so incredibly proud not only of his achievements in the saddle, but of the extraordinary young man he had become.

“He was full of kindness, integrity, ambition and love, always striving to be the best person he could be.”

O’Sullivan’s funeral details were confirmed alongside the RIP.ie posting, with the Irishman reposing in his hometown of Mallow on Tuesday.

His funeral reception will be at St John the Baptist Church in Glantant on Wednesday morning, with requiem mass at noon followed by burial.

THE HISTORY OF DUNNES STORES

DUNNES Stores opened its first store on Patrick Street in Cork in 1944 - and it was an instant hit.

Shoppers from all over the city rushed to the store to snap up quality clothing at pre-war prices in Ireland’s first ‘shopping frenzy’.

During the excitement, a window was forced in and the police had to be called to help control the crowds hoping to bag founder Ben Dunne’s ‘Better Value’ bargains.

Dunnes later opened more stores in the 1950s and began to sell groceries in 1960 – starting with apples and oranges.

The retailer said: “Fruit was expensive at the time and Ben Dunne yet again offered Better Value than anyone else in town.

“Over time, our food selection has grown and that spirit of good value has remained strong.

“Now we offer a wide range of carefully-sourced foods from both local Irish suppliers and overseas.”

The retailer’s first Dublin store opened its doors in 1957 on Henry Street and a super store on South Great Georges Street was unveiled in 1960.

They added: “In 1971, our first Northern Irish store opened, and many others soon followed.

“Expansion continued in the 1980s in Spain, and later into Scotland and England.”

Dunnes now has 142 stores and employs 15,000 people.

The snooker star has withdrawn from three tournaments this year[/caption]

O’Sullivan, 49, has come under fire for his absences, though he has claimed that it has been due to his mental health.

His last public appearance came at the Champions League in which he snapped his cue.

The seven-time world champion’s friend and snooker legend White has suggested that he could be set to return.

He told Eurosport: “He needs some match practice before the World Championship.

“He needs to get amongst it.

“I have heard he has a good cue he is happy with, [but] I am only hearing whispers.”

White also suggested that O’Sullivan needs to get back to playing in order to get some form.

However, he did admit that the Rocket is capable of brilliance as he cited his return to win the World Championship in 2013.

He added: “He needs to be playing some tournaments to get some match practice under his belt

“Saying that, do you remember when he did not play for a year, and then he came and won the World Championship?

“So as long as he is playing he has every chance.”

O’Sullivan released a statement on social media after dropping out of the Welsh Open.

He insisted that it was not a decision he took lightly as he was grateful for support from fans.

He wrote: “I realise plenty of people who bought tickets to some recent snooker events will have been frustrated when I withdrew, so I just wanted to say sorry to those of you who’ve been disappointed with me having to pull out of those tournaments.

“I’ve been trying to prioritise my health and well-being, which sometimes means making last-minute decisions not to play.

“It’s never an easy decision and I hate letting people down.

“I’m doing what I can to get back to my best, and I’m grateful for all your support and understanding.”

Inside Ronnie's colourful career

FROM his lightning breaks to blasts at officials, Ronnie O'Sullivan has fired snooker into the spotlight.

The seven-time world champion makes almost as big an impact away from the table as on it.

O’Sullivan has three children – two daughters and a son.

And the Rocket’s on-off relationship with British actress Laila Rouass has also hit the headlines.

He has opened up on battles with his weight and addiction.

While the controversial cueist reckons he wasted NINE YEARS of his career by partying too hard.

Despite being worth £14million, O’Sullivan is renowned for his love of canal boats and snubbing flashy cars.

His rivalry with fellow star Judd Trump has been branded ‘snooker’s greatest feud’.

And Ali Carter had his nose knocked out of joint by the Rocket in their infamous ‘Snotgate’ row.

Racing in Ireland will stop on Wednesday when friends and family, jockeys, trainers and fans will come together to remember a man who paid the ultimate price doing the job he loved.

Thurles have announced their Thursday fixture has been axed entirely.

There is no racing in Ireland on Monday or Tuesday.

While a Punchestown meeting scheduled for Wednesday has been moved to Friday.

That will form part of a two-day meeting with last Sunday’s rearranged fixture moved to Thursday.

O’Sullivan’s funeral mass will take place in St John the Baptist Church, Glantane, Co Cork on Wednesday at 12pm.

His family paid tribute to him in a public message posted on rip.ie.

It read: “On Sunday, February 16th, 2025 after a trojan battle to recover from injuries sustained in a fall, Michael died peacefully a few days short of his 25th birthday, surrounded by his heartbroken parents Bernie (née Goulding) and William, brother Alan, partner Charlotte and extended family.

“Michael had accomplished so much in his short life.

“As a family we are so incredibly proud not only of his achievements in the saddle, but of the extraordinary young man he had become.

“He was full of kindness, integrity, ambition and love, always striving to be the best person he could be.

“Michael will be very sadly missed by Bernie, William, Alan, “Granny Mary”, aunts Kathleen, Marie, Anne, Marguerite and Marie, uncles Connie, Willie, Sean, Andy, Patsy, Eugene, Patrick and Michael, aunt-in-laws, uncle-in-laws, cousins, Charlotte, his many friends as well as his weigh room colleagues and the wider racing community.”

The trainer said: “It’s dreadful news which puts all our problems into context.

“He will be much missed here and there is a real sadness over the whole of Closutton today.

“He was here two mornings a week and was very much a part of the team at Closutton and his part here was only going to get bigger.

“He was such a natural rider who was very modest, friendly and understated.

“He had a great understanding of horses and racing and given the horse, he was the man.

“I think Closutton will be a much poorer place without him and we, as a family, will miss him.

“He will be much missed in the yard and we have his family in our thoughts and our prayers are for them now. He was a credit to his family. May he rest in peace.”

Who is TikToker Mohamed El-Abboud from C5’s Body In The Bin?

MOHAMED EL-Abbout killed Louise Kam and disposed of her body in a dustbin as part of a plot to steal properties worth £4.6million.

He and another assailant murdered the 71-year-old — the sickening crime is featured in C5’s The Body in the Bin: Who Killed Louise Kam?

Who is Mohamed El-Abboud?

Mohamed El-Abboud murdered Louise Kam on July 26, 2021, subsequently leaving her body in a dustbin.

He was convicted alongside Kusai Al-Jundi.

Al-Jundi spent months befriending 71-year-old Louise and trying to persuade her to hand over control of her two properties — located in East Barnet and Willesden — to him.

Collectively, the properties were worth £4.6million.

El-Abboud, who was working as a delivery driver at the time, moved into one of Louise’s properties and began posting videos online mocking her wealth.

What did Mohamed El-Abboud do to Louise Kam?

When Al-Jundi failed to get Louise to sign a lasting power of attorney document, he lured her with his accomplice to her Barnet property.

There she was strangled to death

Louise’s body was then wrapped in a duvet and dumped into a wheelie bin before the pair covered her body with garden rubbish.

Al-Jundi and Mohammed attempted to cover up their crime by moving the bin to a road in Harrow and lining it up with other bins, showing the same number on the front.

Al-Jundi sent messages from Louise’s phone to her family, to create the pretence that she was still alive.

El-Abboud sold Louise’s car to buy clothes.

The TikToker then showed off his dance moves as he gyrated on the driveway of the trusting pensioner’s Barnet home.

Both men were found guilty in February 2023.

They were handed life sentences for their crimes, with a minimum term of 35 years.

Judge Lucraft KC said: “El-Abboud, it might be said that Al-Jundi played the lead role in the long-running defrauding of Louise, but I draw no distinction on the sentence to be passed on the two of you.

“The evidence clearly shows what you did and did willingly and that you, along with Al-Jundi, did what you did out of greed.”

How to watch The Body in the Bin: Who Killed Louise Kam?

Louise’s murder is the subject of the Channel 5 documentary The Body in the Bin: Who Killed Louise Kam?

It reveals El-Abboud’s shameless level of arrogance as he openly showed off on social media.

The Body In The Bin airs on Channel 5 on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 10.30pm.

You can also catch it on the broadcaster’s streaming service My5.

What Molly-Mae’s surprise Bafta appearance REALLY means and how her outfit revealed all on relationship with Tommy Fury

MOLLY-MAE Hague is very rarely seen at red carpet events, so the mum-of-one left people open-mouthed with a surprise appearance at last night’s 2025 EE British Academy Film Awards.

The Love Island icon turned businesswoman, 25, mingled with acting industry heavyweights at London’s Royal Festival Hall, for the heavily-anticipated Bafta event

Body language expert Judi James also got candid on what her outfit signals when it comes to her reconciliation with Tommy Fury[/caption]

Instagram
Last week it was reported that the couple are now back together and according to Judi, it’s all on Molly’s terms[/caption]

Judi recognised that Molly-Mae appeared ‘confident in her own value’[/caption]

The Maebe founder, who broke up with Tommy Fury, 25, last August but is now reported to be back with him, stunned in a stylish full-length black skirt and an eye-catching jacket with exaggerated shoulder pads.

The blonde beauty posed up a storm and accessorised with a small handbag and a series of dainty silver earrings.

She wore her light tresses pulled back into a chic up do and opted for a glowing, bronzed make-up look.

But according to a body language expert, Molly-Mae’s unexpected Bafta appearance has a much deeper meaning.

Not only this, but as explained by the pro, her outfit subtly reveals all on her relationship with Tommy Fury, 25.

Judi James tells Fabulous: “Molly-Mae’s very performative red-carpet appearance should be seen as an emotional emoji, a non-verbal announcement gesture of her mood, her confidence and her relationship status.

“The choice of outfit looks as contrived as her choice of pose.

“Between poses, she is seen laughing and joking.

“But once she gets into spot she very deliberately adopts her desired look of ‘fierce’ and serious.

“Her smile drops instantly, with just a micro-poking of the tongue to re-adjust the lips, while her head bobs gently to achieve the dipped chin and the challenging stare.

“Her eyelids perform an eye-stutter, fluttering open and shut to adopt that stare.

“It’s deliberately serious. She doesn’t want to look happy or lightweight.”

When it comes to her posing, Judi explains: “Her arms hang straight at her sides in an almost emphatic statement of non-compliance.

“In the usual red-carpet tradition of adopting scene-stealing poses, Molly just stands.

“Molly also seems to be keen to not pander to the pressure to wear an outfit or to strike a pose that is either sexual, shocking or revealing.”

According to Judi, the influencer ‘didn’t want to look happy’[/caption]

Meanwhile, Judi recognised that it was what Molly-Mae didn’t do that made the ‘strongest statement of power and status’[/caption]

Not only this, but according to this body language pro, the Filter founder, who lives in a huge £3.5million mansion with her two-year-old daughter Bambi, appeared “relatable” through her red carpet appearance.

Judi adds: “She’s dressed in stylish basic black and the style is baggy, with no hint of cleavage or enhanced curves.

“Her hair is scraped back in a simple bun and her make-up looks light and unremarkable.

She doesn’t want to look happy or unserious and she doesn’t want to look lightweight

Judi James

“It’s a relatable, wearable and even comfortable look among a trail of A-listers that have dressed like extras in Star Wars.”

Despite this, Judi stresses: “It’s probably what Molly’s not doing that makes the strongest statement of power and status here.

“No five-inch-long nails, no surreal styling, no wearing clothing she can’t walk or breathe in, Molly seems to be implying that she knows her own value without having to over-sell it.

Timeline of Molly-Mae and Tommy Fury's split

After five years together, Molly-Mae and Tommy Fury split up in August 2024.

At around 4pm on Wednesday, August 14, Molly-Mae and Tommy suffer an explosive showdown and Molly-Mae announces her split from fiancé Tommy Fury, saying ‘ I never imagined our story would end, especially not this way’.

An hour later Tommy shares a separate and brief statement confirming they have parted ways, and thanks Molly-Mae for making him ‘a dad’.

The real reason they split emerges and on Thursday, August 15 The Sun reveals how Molly-Mae learned Tommy had cheated on her – leading to an explosive showdown.

On Saturday, August 17, The Sun reveals how Molly-Mae had been sent an upsetting video showing Tommy kissing a girl in a nightclub in North Macedonia on a lads holiday.

Exactly one week after the split a Danish woman accused of getting close to Tommy speaks to The Sun. On Wednesday, August 21, she denies she is the girl who kissed Tommy.

“The actual shape and silhouette of her outfit is important. Wide, tailored shoulders define power dressing.

“But Molly’s shoulders are wider to the point of huge and her sleeves are long enough to be covering her hands.

“This is ‘boyfriend dressing’, a look that implies you’ve raided your man’s wardrobe.

“It’s a look Molly has championed for a while and one of her first postings after her split from Tommy saw her wearing a huge brown leather jacket, that looked as though it had once belonged to him.

Judi claimed that the Filter founder appeared ‘powerful’ and ‘not vulnerable’[/caption]
Molly Mae breaks down in tears as she reveals exact moment she ended relationship with Tommy Fury - saying ‘I still love him’,
Meanwhile, according to this pro, the YouTuber also claimed that her appearance signals her decision to take Tommy back from a position of strength
Amazon

“This would normally signal wardrobe sharing, which would obviously imply you’re in a couple status.

“For Molly though it has always looked more like ‘matching’ by wearing a form of personal armour: a widening and splaying of her shoulders that suggests she can be as tough as Tommy.”

She does seem to be hinting she should not be underestimated again and that the relationship will need to be under her terms this time

Judi James

It was reported last week that Molly-Mae and Tommy are back together and even secretly reunited at her mansion for Valentine’s Day.

According to Judi, the influencer’s appearance signals that she has taken him back, but is determined to show she is no walkover.

Judi admits: “It seems to signal she’s powerful, not vulnerable, and will (or has only) taken Tommy back from a position of strength, not weakness.

“This is a ‘challenge’ dress and an ‘equality’ dress, not a ‘revenge’ dress, implying their relationship is still active.

“As a message to Tommy, she’s not showing off what he’s missing and therefore suggesting they’re still apart, but she does seem to be hinting she should not be underestimated again and that the relationship will need to be under her terms this time.”

Molly-Mae's glow-down from ‘glamour model’ to ‘yummy mummy’

Celebrity PR Expert, Ed Hopkins told Fabulous: “I believe Molly-Mae Hague‘s new look is more than just a style change but a powerful statement of who she is becoming.

“It underscores her journey towards authenticity, maturity, and sophistication and is likely to enhance her success and influence in the years to come.”

Brand and Culture Expert Nick Ede agreed, and told Fabulous: “Molly-Mae has transformed herself into a yummy mummy who has ditched the glamour model style for a more relaxed and natural look.

“She’s becoming more down to earth and relatable to people and cleverly showing a softer side which will win her legions more fans in the process.”

According to Ed Hopkins, Molly-Mae’s chic new look could be “highly lucrative” for the star.

Ed told Fabulous: “Molly-Mae Hague’s transformation towards a more natural, chic look seems to be a testament to her personal growth and evolving style.

“This change, which has become more pronounced since she became a mother, appears to reflect her journey towards embracing authenticity and sophistication.

“It’s possible that this new image could be highly lucrative for Molly-Mae.

“Her chic, understated style might appeal to a wider audience, including more mature demographics and high-end brands, potentially opening up lucrative endorsement deals and partnerships.

“By adopting a more elegant look, she seems to align herself with premium and luxury brands that favour natural beauty and sophistication, which could lead to higher-paying collaborations.

“Additionally, with consumers increasingly valuing authenticity and natural beauty, her new image could be both timely and marketable.”

Nick Ede agreed and told Fabulous: “She has started to promote some really great luxury brands including the cosmetics brand Tatcha and with her laid back look she will make a lot of money from brands looking to align with her.”

Ed also noted that Molly-Mae’s transformation may be a sign that she is looking to step away from her reality show past.

He continued: “Molly-Mae’s transformation also seems to symbolise her desire even more so to well and truly step out of the shadow of her Love Island persona.

“The shift to a more mature and unique style appears to demonstrate her growth and her wish to be seen as an individual beyond her reality TV beginnings.

“By shedding the bold, flashy look associated with her time on Love Island, she might be rebranding herself as a serious businesswoman and influencer who is carving out her own identity.

“This new look helps her stand out in the crowded influencer market, showcasing her as a trendsetter with a distinctive, refined aesthetic.”

Nick agreed and claimed: “Shedding the flash looks she previously went for, she’s also detaching herself from the Love Island stereotype and stepping out as her own person with a cool look that’s not flashy but totally on trend.

“Gone are the ‘look at me’ posts and in are family style posts and trend led fashion statements.”
