My boxing career feels like a prison sentence even when I win – Anthony Joshua got it spot on

HAMZAH SHEERAZ is treating his boxing career as a jail sentence — with Anthony Joshua in the cell next door.

The Ilford-born middleweight, 25, faces Dominican Carlos Adames in Riyadh on Saturday, with the WBC crown and a step closer to freedom at stake.

It has been a rocky road for the Londoner, whose dad was in and out of jail, which meant his mum raised Sheeraz and his two younger siblings almost single-handedly.

When the 21-0 ace was reminded that AJ once compared boxing to a stretch behind bars, Sheeraz laughs that even the good days are like being banged up.

He said: “AJ isn’t wrong. Even after you have won a fight, it is only like being in a cat-D prison.

“It’s like I am still on tag and have to be at home at certain times. The way AJ put it into perspective is spot-on.

“I never really looked at it like that before.”

Despite his dedication to his mum — who sold her jewellery at times when former Gloucestershire cricketer Kamran was locked up — Sheeraz has flown the nest to help realise his dream.

Training camps are held in California, where he and American coach Ricky Funez have formed a brilliant bond.

And his downtime is split between Dubai and Saudi Arabia, where he hopes to be crowned this weekend.

With a huge family and a proud British-Pakistani community pulling him in all directions, home visits are becoming shorter and the comforts are being craved.

Despite squeezing his 6ft 3in frame into 11st 7lb, Sheeraz said: “I miss fish and chips.

“I don’t want to miss Arsenal winning loads of titles and trophies in the next few years.

“I thought I had time to catch up with the family after the last fight but it was probably only two days and then I was off again. I don’t mean to sound harsh but that was enough!

“All my family understand the vision and for the next five to seven years I really need to capitalise on my opportunities and give 100 per cent to my craft.”

Barring a surprise 2023 sparring session with pop star Justin Bieber and a few verbals with Chris Eubank Jr, Sheeraz swerves the limelight.

He knows he could command bigger purses and get more attention by playing up for the cameras.

But he added: “I know a lot of fighters say ‘I let my fists do the talking’ — but I am the perfect example of doing that.

“When my fists do the talking, they also put bums on seats. I don’t have to talk s**t and then win a boring fight.

“My sole objective when I get in the ring is to knock them out. Not just win.

“That is why I am getting the right attention and the right fights.”

“Toronto Pearson is aware of an incident upon landing involving a Delta Airlines plane arriving from Minneapolis,” the airport shared on X.

“Emergency teams are responding. All passengers and crew are accounted for.”

Mark Selby reveals he almost RETIRED from snooker after suffering crippling mental health issues

MARK SELBY came close to quitting snooker last summer as he battled with crippling mental health issues.

Eight months on, the four-time world champion has won two ranking titles and will head to the Crucible in April as one of the favourites.

The Jester from Leicester — who has suffered with depression all through his career — had a sit-down chat with his wife, Vikki, and pals and considered hanging up his cue after losing to Joe O’Connor in the first round at Sheffield last year.

After winning the Welsh Open on Sunday, Selby revealed: “If you’d asked me after that game at the Crucible would I carry on, I’d have probably said no.

“If you had put me on the spot, there and then, I’d have probably never played again.

“I spoke to friends and family and said, ‘I’m not really enjoying it . . . I cannot keep putting myself through it’ because it was making me even more ill.

“They were saying, ‘Why don’t you have a bit of time out? Don’t go anywhere near the table.’

“I spoke to my doctor and he said to me, ‘Whenever you feel like that, just pick and choose. I know you want to play in everything but you need to start putting yourself first.’

“That’s what I thought I would do and after the summer, I seemed to be in a better place.

“That’s not to say that from now until the end of the season, I might play in everything — that could easily turn.

“But if I’m in that position again like I was a couple of weeks before the last Worlds, I definitely won’t compete. It’s not healthy.”

Selby, 41, beat Stephen Maguire 9-6 in the Llandudno final to claim a 24th ranking success, following his British Open win in September.

Part of his £100,000 prize pot will go towards a Kindle book reader for his ten-year-old daughter Sofia — though he has little time to get one.

Tomorrow, he flies to the World Open in China, where he faces Liu Hongyu on Sunday.

The world No 3 added: “Confidence-wise, this win is great. But confidence is only good if you’re in a good place.

“If you aren’t in a great place mentally then that confidence is irrelevant because you won’t perform to a good level.

“At the moment, if I can maintain where I am, then of course I’ll go to the Crucible very confident.

“I’m enjoying the challenge out there — hence why I’m probably playing a bit better.”

Stuart Kettlewell breaks silence on quitting Motherwell amid fan abuse as he said stick had him at ‘breaking point’

STUART KETTLEWELL has insisted he’s never regretted his shock decision to resign as Motherwell boss in the face of brutal personal flak from fans which was tormenting his family.

His loved ones suffering over a prolonged period while attending games was his sole reason for walking after two years in the job full of significant achievements.

He guided them to 5th in the league – but a minority wanted him gone

Ketts has spoken to Derek McGregor about the abuse he received from supporters

Three weeks on from his stunning departure – which jolted everyone at Fir Park and took Scottish football by  surprise – Kettlewell also revealed in his first interview that staying in position could’ve ultimately led to an explosive confrontation with the senseless minority baiting him and in turn upsetting his children.

The 40-year-old – talking in-depth on a SunSport YouTube One-on-One special – was under no pressure from the Well board to go amid an admittedly poor run of form and results.

But, for all that a second successive defeat from St Johnstone in Perth, and the manner of it again, was cause for  alarm for supporters, the fact was Well were still sitting fifth in the Premiership.

Chief executive Brian Caldwell was left gobsmacked less than 48-hours later when Kettlewell told him he was walking away from his contract — and wouldn’t be talked out of it.

Former Championship-winning Ross County boss Kettlewell’s ready to get back in a hot-seat and has already rejected an offer from a club because it didn’t feel 100-per-cent right.

On any regrets, he said: “I don’t, none at all.

“I believe I made the decision for the right reasons.

“I think where the regret would come from would be leaving the group of staff and the players.

“I don’t think there was any willingness from the staff, players, from the chief executive or executive board, for me to leave.

“In fact, numerous occasions on the Monday I made my decision, made it known, quite clearly they tried to talk me out of my decision.

“I am a stubborn person. If I feel something’s crossed the line, or something’s unjust, I make my call.

“It’s not in spite, it’s just something I felt was the right decision.

“That will never take away the fact I want to be a manager and I believe I can do the job — I feel I’ve shown over a period of time I can.

“I don’t just want to be seen as someone who’s clinging on to a job in football for the wrong reasons, although I don’t think I was.

“However, when I feel certain things cross the line…when the reaction’s unfair…then I feel sometimes you  have to make a decision, and I did.

“It’s one of the biggest decisions I’ve ever made in my life.

“There’s quite clearly been a build-up.

“My family have had to leave games of football.

“Now, my family’s not precious – my family go to support me, they go to support the team and they sit at times in among supporters.
“We don’t ask for preferential treatment.

“When you’re like the Waltons, and you’ve got so many kids, my wife will take them along. They love going to watch their dad’s team and supporting their dad.

“But when it gets to the stage my missus has to take the kids out because she can see the impact it’s having on them…”

Ketts – seven years a manager and 15-years as a player with the likes of Queen’s Park, Clyde and Ross County – added: “We’re a tight knit family and that clearly has a major impact.

“I’m not asking for a medal for this…

“But when you spend 12, 13 hours a day every day trying to get things right, spending time at a football club, dedicating your life to it, lots of sacrifices, sometimes you don’t see your kids in the morning or when you come back at night, you have to make a decision.

“Where does it get to? I can be a pretty aggressive guy. Is the next stage for me that I want to start jumping over advertising boards and have a confrontation with people directly?

“I’ve got a breaking point, in that sense.”

The TV personality was joined by actor Jeremy, 39, who flashed a smile for the camera while snapping a selfie by the pool.

Kelly flashed a series of poses, holding up two peace signs before placing her hands on her hips and gasping in the establishment’s grounds, where rooms begin at £1,000 per night.

Taking to Instagram with the shots, Kelly wrote in her caption: “Ultimate Recovery Carry On Cold Plunge #redlanespa.”

Last year, it was reported the couple had landed a huge ITV deal after their successful stint on Race Across The World.

The three-part mini series will see the couple travel to rural Italy where Jeremy’s family live.

Kelly and Jeremy gained a legion of fans during their appearance on BBC’s Race Across the World earlier this year.

It was the first time that fans got to see a peek inside their marriage with one another as they faced off against their fellow celebs throughout South America.

Now, the pair are set to return to our screens with their brand new show, Kelly and Jeremy: La Vita Italiana.

The couple will return to the Arpino countryside, where they tied the knot in 2022.

“With Kelly’s trademark sense of humour, and Jeremy’s passion for his heritage, This Morning viewers will become immersed in the couple’s journey of discovery in deciding whether Italian life really is right for them,” a source told the Daily Mail.

“The barn is an interesting talking point too as it could potentially become their dream home… if they can get the goats to move out first!”

Viewers will see the pair weigh up pros and cons on whether they should move to Italy, while also embracing the culture and life in the countryside.

The series, which kicks off on Wednesday, sees them face challenges when they’re thrown into farming life on Jeremy’s family’s olive farm.

Fans can expect to see brunette beauty Kelly get hands on as she mucks in with looking after the livestock and harvest.

In an interview with OK Magazine, Kelly previously opened up on the real reason she and Jeremy have not discussed children – and it could be because of their time on the reality TV show.

Kelly revealed that she and her husband had yet to decide where they wanted to live in the world and, as such, couldn’t think about having children.

The Heart FM star told the publication: “We have our little fur baby dog, Teddy, but I’m not sure about having children yet.

“At the moment we are focused on work and where we want to live in the world.

“It’s very hard to think about children when you don’t know where you might be living.

“We need to be more settled before we think about children.”

‘I love you’ – Nathan Collins cosies up to girlfriend while taking her out to dinner for her birthday

It was an excellent weekend overall for the 23-year-old centre-back as he played all 90 minutes as Brentford recorded a clean sheet in their 1-0 derby win over West Ham.

He had to battle international teammate Evan Ferguson who came on for his new club in the second half.

And while the Kildare native ultimately won the war, Ferguson looked sharper than had been expected given his lack of minutes with Brighton this season.

In one promising moment he teed Mohammed Kudus up on the edge of the six-yard box with a precise cut-back, however, the Ghanaian fluffed what was a bit of a sitter.

On the day Graham Potter hoped to show off his attacking riches, West Ham’s woeful defence let him down.

A first half of comically calamitous defending from the Hammers allowed Kevin Schade to inflict a fourth defeat in six games under Potter.

There has been clear progress in some areas since he replaced Julen Lopetegui last month, but this was a significant step backwards.

There was a rare whiff of optimism around the London Stadium.

Potter had a gap of two weeks since their last game and was able to start the trio of Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and Kudus for the first time since he was appointed.

While it is an attractive attacking line, the West Ham defence remains substandard and sapped the hope from the stands after just four minutes.

A soft challenge from Emerson allowed Bryan Mbeumo to nod Yoane Wissa’s ball onto Schade – before a calamity between Alphonse Areola and the hapless Konstantinos Mavropanos unfolded.

Areola got a foot to the forward’s first effort, sending it looping towards goal.

Mavropanos came careering in, hooked the ball off the line but straight back to Schade, whose strike just made it over the line before Areola got a glove to it.

This is nothing new in Stratford, though. Schade’s was the 10th goal West Ham have conceded in the opening 10 minutes this season.

After Areola saved a low Mbeumo shot, only the offside flag saved the Hammers from another cock-up.

Paqueta passed straight to Mbeumo, free to roam on the edge of the box, who picked out Wissa to finish – though the forward was just off.

West Ham looked nervous and were pinned back, unable to do anything meaningful with the ball.

There was no stemming the Brentford chances as the visitors continued to plunder the wide open gaps left by their generous hosts.

Wissa sent one high and wide before Schade rattled the foot of the post.

Again, the officials were covering for West Ham’s incompetence as the finest of offside calls against Kristoffer Ajer ruled out another Wissa goal upon review.

Bizarre moment MAFS UK’s Luke proposes to ‘mystery woman’ in Dubai as he jokes ‘she said no’

MARRIED At First Sight star Luke Worley has been caught on camera proposing to a ‘mystery woman’ – but he claims she “said no”.

Luke, 32, was snapped on bended knee in front of a huge display of red roses with Dubai’s Burj Khalifa in the background.

INSTAGRAM
Fans have been left baffled by the reality star’s photos[/caption]

Luke cryptically covered the ‘person’ he was popping the question to with a slew of red heart emojis and, even more bizarrely, captioned the photo on Instagram: “She said no 😅.”

The former EE store manager also posted a shot of himself on the terrace of a fancy restaurant that was taken late at night.

He is grinning in the picture and is holding a half-drunk glass of champagne. Luke captioned it: “Dinner with a view.”

Fans have been left scratching their heads as they try to understand what has gone on.

Some quick-thinkers have suggested he might have signed up to another series of the Married At First Sight global franchise, while others have branded the proposal ‘fake’.

One of his followers commented: “No box, no ring, no person…”

Another added: “She is very short and no shadow but whatever rocks your boat.”

A third said: “I propose to myself too sometimes 😂.”

While someone else wondered: “I reckon his going back on MAFS.”

Replying, another follower agreed: “MAFS Australia 🤔.”

Luke appeared on the 2023 series of Married At First Sight and tied the knot with Jay Howard.

The pair appeared to hit it off, but cracks soon began to appear.

The couple were later forced to make an early exit from the E4 show after Luke had a huge bust up with his co-star, Jordan Gayle.

Fans had high hopes for Luke and Jay’s relationship but unfortunately they were quick to split.

Returning later in the series for the MAFS Reunion show, Jay confirmed they had gone their separate ways.

Jay admitted to her co-stars: “He literally basically just said, like, we are better off just being friends.

Mafs couples that have stood the test of time

Loved-up Tayah Victoria and Adam Aveling of series six fame had the first Mafs baby.

The pair couldn’t keep their hands off each other on the programme and quickly found their feet in the outside world, moving into Adam’s Doncaster home.

Just 18 months after meeting, the couple welcomed their daughter Beau.

Season five couple Michelle Walder and Owen Jenkins also managed to make their marriage work away from the cameras and had their first child in December.

Teacher Michelle, 29, has no regrets about taking part in the experiment. She told us: “I just feel very lucky and thankful that it has worked out – and excited for everything to come.”

Michelle and Owen were both sick of dating apps when they applied in 2019.

Owen recalled: “I had been out for some drinks with a friend after work.

“While he was out for a cigarette I was scrolling on Instagram waiting for him to come back in.

“The MAFS advert was the last thing I saw, and I joked, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if I signed up?’

“A few beers later when I was back at home I sent in the application, and the rest is history.”

Another couple to make Mafs UK history is Zoe Clifton and Jenna Robinson.

Despite a slight rocky start, where they clashed over Jenna’s vegan lifestyle, the show’s first same sex pairing are still going strong.

They even have a successful podcast together called Life With a Pod.

Jenna shed light on being involved in the show earlier this year when she told us: “We’re not legally married, and I never felt like we were. I definitely feel the process makes you take the relationship a lot more seriously and having the help of the experts… if you can survive that process it sets a firm foundation for a long-lasting relationship.”

“I asked him what he wanted, but he couldn’t answer the question.”

Luke soon moved on and went Instagram official with a new girlfriend in February 2024.

The reality star introduced his then-girlfriend Hannah Lynch to his followers by calling her his “rocket”.

But Luke and Hannah split six months later.

During a fan Q&A, Luke was asked: “Are you still with somebody?”

Luke replied with a screen shot of the dating site Hinge and said: “Nope, back to the drawing board.”

He has not been pictured publicly with any potential girlfriends since.
