AN iconic Scots band is set to play an intimate gig in Glasgow.

Deacon Blue will take to the stage at the city‘s Oran Mor on Wednesday 26 March.

And The Twist and Shout hitmakers will be answering questions from the audience after the acoustic set.

A social media post reads: “Just Announced. Deacon Blue join us at the Oran Mor on Wed 26th March for an acoustic show w/ Q&A in celebration of their forthcoming album The Great Western Road.”

Tickers go on sale on Tuesday and are available online.

The band were formed in 1985 and comprises Ricky Ross, Lorraine McIntosh, James Prime, Dougie Vipond, Gregor Philp and Lewis Gordon.

They are famed for a string of hits including Dignity, Chocolate Girl and Loaded.

Elsewhere an 80s pop legend is set to perform a huge show in Glasgow this spring.

Spandau Ballet and EastEnders star Martin Kemp will take to the decks at SWG3 in Finnieston for a night of classics from the era.

Organisers say fancy dress is encouraged for his Back To The 80s Party.

They added: “The night will take you on an unforgettable journey back to pop music’s greatest ever decade where discos were dominated by pop’s finest pedigree, from Duran Duran to Chaka Khan, George Michael to Michael Jackson, Spandau Ballet and beyond.

“Martin Kemp’s Back To The 80s will take you on a whistle-stop tour through all of the era’s most electrifying pop moments and back again.

“This time, the party is going to be off the charts. Our house DJ will warm up the crowd, then a live band will take the stage for a spectacular live performance of all your favourite 80s hits.”

Martin Kemp will visit Glasgow‘s SWG3 on Saturday, April 5.

In 1979, Martin joined Spandau Ballet alongside his brother Gary Kemp.

The musician learned to play bass guitar in just three months, and started his music career in the band, which was at the time known as The Gentry.

A PAEDOPHILE lurks in bushes at a notorious dogging hotspot — less than a mile from where he sexually assaulted a boy of nine.

We can reveal twisted Michael Macleod, 29, spends his afternoons loitering in woodland at Silverknowes Beach in Edinburgh.

He dodged jail just four months ago over the sickening attack on the schoolboy in October 2023, just a few minutes’ walk from where he has been spotted in recent weeks.

Macleod was snared by cops last year after they issued a photo of him as part of a public appeal to find him.

He pled guilty in court to molesting the child at a play park in the Davidsons Mains area of the capital.

Earlier this month he was seen hiding in woods and loitering around a beach which is popular with families.

One mum, who did not want to be named, told how she was “terrified” when he passed her and her kids in fields close to where he abused the lad.

She said: “I was out with my dog and two kids over the field where the guys meet for sex and he walked past.

“I recognised him but couldn’t place how.

“Then a few days later my friend and I spotted him standing in bushes watching people.

“Later that night my pal messaged me with the link to a news article with his picture.

“I then knew straight away he was the guy who attacked the boy at the play park.

“It is disgusting that he is free to roam with what appears to be very little supervision.

“This area is full of families and kids, especially in summer.

“When he was sentenced he should have been ordered never to come back here — the area is not safe with beasts like him walking around.”

Macleod was handed just 18 months’ community payback as well as supervision and added to the sex offenders register for the same period.

Sharon Dowey, Scottish Tory shadow minister for victims and community safety said last night: “It is shameful that this community is having to live in fear of this predator.

“The buck stops with SNP ministers whose relentless weakening of the justice system let off this offender with a slap on the wrist.”

We approached Macleod after he spent two hours roaming around near the beach and the woods, who stated he was simply out for a “walk.”

He added: “People are thinking that I am a really bad person and everyone has the wrong impression.

“I am just here for a walk. I have been doing it for years.”

Asked if he sexually assaulted the child, the beast casually replied: “Yeah, yeah.”

Police Scotland said: “Registered sex offenders (RSOs) are managed robustly and effectively through Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements.

“We can never eliminate risk entirely, but sexual re-offending rates of RSOs remain very low.”

CAST your mind back 11 years to the last time David Moyes was in a Goodison Park dugout for an Everton v Manchester United match.

Then, we were treated to the ghoulish sight of a bookmaker’s stooge dressed as the Grim Reaper, seated yards away from Moyes, dangling his scythe at the soon-to-be-former United boss.

And 11 years later, the Red Devils haven’t recovered from their spiral of chaos and doom.

On Saturday, Ruben Amorim takes what remains of his battered United squad to Goodison for his club’s final visit to Everton’s historic home.

And this time, Moyes himself can play the Reaper.

The Scot, 61, who returned to the Toffees last month, has amassed 13 points from his past five matches — four wins and a dramatic draw against runaway leaders Liverpool.

That points tally is only one fewer than Amorim has mustered in 14 league games as United boss.

One month ago, Everton were nine points adrift of the Red Devils and also West Ham.

Already, Moyes’ side have leap-frogged both of the clubs who scorned him.

It would be too simplistic to claim that if United had stuck with Moyes back in 2014, rather than becoming just another hire-and-fire Premier League club, then everything would have turned out fine and dandy.

It is likely that no manager in world football could have successfully succeeded Ferguson.

United’s squad was ageing and Fergie was a genius who had run the whole Old Trafford empire, leaving behind no recognisable modern  management infrastructure.

And perhaps Moyes’ skill-set has always been better suited to overachieving at clubs just outside the elite, rather than getting the best out of world-class players.

But still, the contrast in fortunes between Everton and United is glaring.

Amorim’s side plunged into the bottom six at an advanced stage of a Premier League season for the first time when they lost Sunday’s ‘Hell Clasico’ to fellow strugglers Spurs.

There, the Portuguese named eight teenaged substitutes who had never previously played for United’s first team, using only one of them —   forward Chido Obi — as a 91st- minute replacement for a gone-at-all-levels Casemiro.

Perhaps Amorim should actually have named his 63-year-old goal-keeping coach Jorge Vital among his subs in North London having claimed last month he would rather select the old boy over Marcus Rashford.

Defeat by Tottenham was United’s sixth in nine league matches.

And looking at the table, it is easy to imagine United finishing in the bottom six.

Their position is not a false one, unless you want to argue that they should actually be even further down, among the dead men.

Three of the four league wins Amorim has mustered have been  fortunate — they trailed 1-0 at home to Southampton after 80 minutes, they were 1-0 down to Manchester City before a miraculous late derby turnaround, and won 1-0 at Fulham with their only shot on target, which was massively deflected.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou offered no sympathy for Amorim’s current injury crisis — ‘welcome to my world, mate, try it for two months’ was his comment.

But United had left themselves wide open to this eventuality by loaning out Rashford and Antony in the winter window, without replacing either.

The subsequent season-ending injury to Amad Diallo — the one bright spark of Amorim’s reign — would not have felt quite so debilitating had United not left themselves so short of attacking numbers.

And the fact that Antony has now won three successive man-of-the-match awards for Real Betis, while Rashford is showing early promise at Aston Villa, only adds to questions over Amorim’s decision-making.

His insistence on refusing to compromise on a 3-4-3 formation, even when robbed of the services of 12 senior players, is beginning to look like severe bloody-mindedness. Beware of the dogma.

There’s much to like about Amorim, such as his unswerving, often damning, honesty about United and a charismatic strength of personality which makes it believable he could turn around the club’s fortunes in the long term.

But there comes a point at any major club — and we still have to regard United as one of those despite a dozen years of trauma — when things become so bad that you have to wonder whether the manager even has a long-term future.

Amorim’s appointment seemed like a massive coup.

He was the hottest young property in management after an excellent spell at Sporting Lisbon.

And yet it is increasingly intriguing to consider why Dan Ashworth — United’s hugely-respected, short-lived sporting director — should have left after just five months having disagreed over Amorim’s appointment.

Ashworth is believed to have favoured replacing Erik ten Hag with a manager experienced in the English game.

His three previous appointments — Eddie Howe at Newcastle, Gareth Southgate at England and Graham Potter at Brighton — were all great successes and all three were linked with United.

By the time Ten Hag was sacked, Brentford’s Thomas Frank was Ashworth’s pick, with Amorim the choice of chief executive Omar Berrada — the finance man, rather than their football man.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has spent £25million in hiring and firing Ashworth, sacking Ten Hag and poaching Amorim with some of this cost being recouped in demoralising mass redundancies among the club’s staff.

United must sell before they buy this summer, reviving the prospect of stars Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho being flogged off to keep the club in line with Profit and Sustainability Rules.

With a dysfunctional current squad and no quick fixes in sight, Amorim, 40, must be wondering whether he made a serious mistake in taking on the biggest basket case in world football.

So perhaps, at Goodison Park on Saturday, Moyes should bring along a Scary Movie mask and scythe.

TRIBUTES, led by the Taoiseach, were paid to a former Fianna Fail TD, Cork Lord Mayor and Minister of State who passed away today.

Dan Wallace, 82, who has died after a short illness, served as a Cork North Central TD for 25 years before retiring in 2007.

The father-of-five was Minister of State at the Department of the Environment twice after serving as Lord Mayor of Cork between 1985 and 1986.

Mr Wallace was successfully re-elected in every general election since 1979, when he was first elected by Fianna Fail in local elections.

His retirement came in 2007 after serving 25 years in Leinster House.

Taoiseach Micheal Martin led tributes and said he was “deeply saddened” to learn of Mr Wallace’s death.

The Fianna Fail leader said: “I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my dear friend and former colleague, Dan Wallace.

“Dan was a dedicated public servant who gave almost 25 years of his life to representing the people of Cork North Central in Dáil Éireann.

“First elected in 1982, he was successfully re-elected in every general election until his retirement in 2007 – a testament to the deep trust and respect he earned from his community.

“Throughout his career, Dan was a tireless advocate for the people of the north side of Cork city.

“His passion for serving his people was unwavering, and he fought relentlessly to improve their lives.”

Martin added: “On a personal level, I will miss Dan greatly. As a young student, during the three general elections of the 1981-1982 period, I canvassed with Dan throughout Farranree, Gurranabraher and Blackpool.

‘NUTS AND BOLTS’

“I remember well the mixed grills that Ethel had ready for us when canvassing ended. I learned so much about the nuts and bolts of electoral politics from those days and from Dan.

“Since becoming leader, he encouraged me greatly and would text me advice on a regular basis. He knew my late father Paddy well as they both lived in Farranree.

“Beyond his many political achievements, those of us who had the privilege to work alongside him will always remember his quick wit, his warmth, and the great sense of humour that made him such a pleasure to serve with. He was not just a valued colleague but a cherished friend.”

Colleagues and friends have remembered him as being “one of life’s gentlemen” and a “highly regarded politician.”

‘SAD DAY’

One said: “A sad day for Cork and the history of the city, especially the Northside. He was of his era an era of a great generation who are now sadly aging or passing.

“I will always remember the days when I was young and a name always mentioned in the home was Danny Wallace. We will never see the likes of their generation again.”

Another one wrote: “Condolences to the Wallace family on the death of Danny. One of life’s gentlemen and a highly regarded politician. May he rest in peace.”

A third one added: “Such a lovely man. A proud Corkman, he was always true to his roots and beliefs.

FUNERAL DETAILS

“His contribution to the people of Cork will be long remembered. He is a real example of a life well lived.”

The former Fianna Fail TD died “peacefully in the tender care of the staff of the staff of St. Mary’s Ward at Mercy University Hospital”, an obituary notice read.

Mr Wallace is survived by his heartbroken wife Ethel (nee Sutton), family, and his daughters Fiona (O’Neill), Damian, Kieran, Nicola (Foley) and Andrea (Fitzgerald).

His obituary noticed added: “Sadly missed by his heartbroken wife, family, daughters-in-law Grace and Tracy, sons-in-law Roy, Shane and Kieran, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends.”

Mr Wallace’s funeral arrangement details will be released at a later stage.

Now Tottenham skipper Son has leapt to his team-mate’s defence, revealing the pair discussed the stinging criticism and how to prove it to be wide of the mark.

South Korean international forward Son, 32, said: “Everybody has an opinion but I don’t care what they say.

“Madders is one of the best team-mates I’ve played with in my career.

“In big games, he steps up and scores goals, that’s why we’ve missed him.

“Me and Madders had a chat about this because he’s always had a good personality and been able to move on.

“He’s shown people that it’s wrong. He showed great character and put on a great performance.”

United’s legendary Treble-winning captain Keane claimed: “If you think he’s going to come back and get Spurs into the top six, you’re in cuckoo land.

Keane’s dig appeared to fire up Maddison against the Irishman’s old club, as he returned from three weeks out with a calf problem to net the game’s only goal after just 13 minutes.

England star Maddison then hit back with his celebration where he made a ‘talking’ gesture with his hand before his trademark darts-throwing routine and then shushed Keane with his finger.

He did not name who it was aimed at in his post-match interview.

But it became clear later that evening with a video posted on social media platform TikTok.

The footage started with Keane’s criticism, then fellow pundit Ian Wright urging Maddison to “silence” the former midfielder’s damning verdict, before a clip of Maddison’s goal and celebration to the backdrop of amusingly dramatic music.

Maddison, who attended the Bafta Awards after-party on Sunday night, was one of four Spurs players to return from injury against United along with goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and subs Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert.

After a long three months with so many absentees, Spurs’ problems look to be easing with Dominic Solanke, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven hopefully back soon.

Son paid tribute to youngsters like Archie Gray, 18, and 19-year-old Lucas Bergvall for stepping up over the winter in the absence of the injured senior pros.

The Tottenham captain added: “I don’t want to dwell on our dreams or blame anything on us missing our main players.

“In the period of time they have been out, everyone at the club should appreciate the job the young players have done and never forget all the tough moments they have faced in the last two-and-a-half months.

“They didn’t deserve it but they have handled it really well.

A FAN says he bought two tickets for an Arsenal match — and found they were given free to Gunners star Gabriel Martinelli.

They were for seats in the away end for his team’s 2-0 win at Leicester on Saturday.

He said that after buying them, he was called by a club official saying they were originally allocated to injured £180,000-per-week Brazilian striker Martinelli, 23.

But last night, Arsenal insiders said Martinelli had not applied to use the tickets.

They were put in a central pot and redistributed to a ­contractor who asked for some. Sales manager Nathan, from Hawkhurst, Kent, snapped the tickets up from website Livefootballtickets for £175 each.

He had failed to get two of the 3,200 seats in the away end for himself and pal Cillian Oliver when Arsenal sold out their allocation of the £30 tickets.

Nathan, who has a season ticket for home games, got a message from the site telling him to pick up the tickets at a collection point at Leicester’s ground before the match, and to bring ID.

The message named a club worker.

Our source said the contractor had given the tickets to a pal who sold them to the site.

Nathan said: “I was delighted to get tickets but stunned when I picked them up and they were clearly complimentary ones given to a player.

“I got a call as well before the game, and the guy told me they were Martinelli’s.

“I don’t blame Martinelli and suspect he might have just not used them and someone else has sold them on. I doubt he needs the money.”

There is no suggestion of any wrongdoing by Martinelli, who did not travel to the ­Midlands.

Arsenal and the site were approached for comment.

A BODY of a man in his 20s was tragically found on Blackpool beach during the weekend.

Emergency services were called alongside the Lancashire Police Department to North Promenade on Saturday morning.

There cops found the lifeless body of a man, said to be in his 20s, at the beach.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is understood that the police are not treating the death as suspicious – and the case will shortly be sent to a coroner.

A statement from the police states: “Our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.”

It comes after another body was tragically discovered “near a sewage outlet” during a beach search for a missing woman.

Colette Marshall, 44, went missing on February 1 from Perranporth, Cornwall.

Cops released two photographs of Colette in a desperate attempt to find her and said they were concerned for her welfare.

They issued an urgent appeal and asked anyone who knew of her whereabouts to get in touch with them.

On Saturday it was tragically confirmed that a body had been found “just off the sewage outlet at Drozskyn” near Perranporth.

Ambulance crews, the coastguard team, and the RNLI rushed to the scene.

In a statement, Devon and Cornwall Police said: “A body has been located in the search for 44-year-old Colette Marshall who had been reported missing from Perranporth.

“A body was discovered along the coastline in the Perranporth area Saturday 8 February.

“Formal identification has yet to take place.

“The family of Colette have been informed of the discovery.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

POKEMON fans are rushing to Aldi to catch ’em all.

The retailer is flogging Pokemon cards on the SpecialBuy shelves for far less than rival stores – just in time for half term.

Customers can choose between a three-pack booster or an ex battle deck from the German supermarket.

Decks are £9.99 each at Aldi, compared to £14 at Asda.

At Argos, they are even more expensive, costing £16 per pack.

There are several varieties available in store, including Paldea Evolved, Paradox Rift and Scarlet & Violet.

This comes after Game shoppers threatened to boycott the retailer after discovering a “greedy” shipping charge being added to Pokemon cards.

The new “Scarlet & Violet Prismatic Evolutions” cards are in hot demand, with other retailers selling out immediately.

Game still has Prismatic cards in stock, but is applying an “oversized” shipping fee of £20 to orders, even though it will ship other items of a similar size or bigger for a standard delivery fee of £4.99.

Standard delivery takes from three to seven days, while oversized delivery takes between three to 14 days.

Scarlet & Violet mini tins, which are selling for £10.99 each, are subject to the hefty levy, bringing their overall cost to £30.98.

Another new Scarlet & Violet product, containing a sheet of stickers, a foil promo card, three booster packers and a code card for Pokemon live, costs £15.99, but also has a £19.99 shipping charge, more than doubling its cost.

There are no other shipping options available on these products.

In contrast, a larger tin of Pokemon Paradox Destinies cards and a £79.99 box containing a card-display dragon figure and 10-booster packs can be delivered for the standard £4.99.

Even a Nintendo Switch console can be bought from Game.co.uk with standard shipping.

The levy on the new Prismatic range has sparked a furious backlash among fans, with many taking to social media to complain.

One fumed on X, formerly Twitter: “How come a small tin of Pokemon cards currently costs £19.99 postage without the option of store collection. Seems like a money making scheme.”

Another added: “Greedy f*ckers taking advantage of limited stock items. £20 postage charge on an £11 Pokémon tin that is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand with no other options… what a joke. 

“Customer support says this is intentional pricing. Never buying from u again.”
