EastEnders’ Cheryl Fergison says she’s ‘taking jobs for no money’ amid financial woes – and says she’s ‘just surviving’

EASTENDERS star Cheryl Fergison says she’s “taking jobs for no money” amid her financial struggle, and says she’s “just surviving.”

Cheryl, 60, played Heather Trott for five years, leaving in 2012 when the character was killed off.

But recently, the star has opened up on her money woes, as she flogged tickets to fans to see her perform at a Chinese takeaway’s opening earlier this month.

Cheryl has also told how she was forced to claim benefits and turn to a food bank for help.

Now, opening up on her current financial situation, the actress said: “My health is good, but my finances will take a long time to recover.

“Until I have steady work, I’m not rich or comfortable—I’m just surviving. I’ve been saying yes to everything for no money, but I need to start valuing my work and asking for fair pay. Even my agent insists on it.”

She went on: “Still, I’ll never give in. I want to keep singing. If people criticise me for singing in small restaurants, so be it.

“At the end of the day, I’m an entertainer. Community has always been important to me, and I’ll perform no matter the crowd.

“If only two people show up, I don’t care—I’m still being paid, and I’ll still give it my all.”

The actress added defiantly: “No one should be judged for trying to get back on their feet. One thing isn’t better than another—we all have our paths. I will always sing my heart out and I’m working my way back up.”

But things are looking up for Cheryl, revealed her upcoming projects in a video on TikTok – including filming for the BBC.

Cheryl shared to her followers: “I’ve been packing, getting ready for London next week. Going to be doing a little secret project.

“Then, I will be filming for the BBC. And then I will be going to The Groove Chorus, working with the beautiful Groove Chorus at The Clapham Ground on the 21st and 22nd.”

Cheryl made her first appearance as Heather Trott, sidekick to Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) in June 2007, initially as a guest character.

Owing to her popularity, Heather later became a full-time part of the BBC soap.

However, her time in Walford ended in tragedy after she was bludgeoned by Ben Mitchell (then Joshua Pascoe) in early 2012.

She’s also mentioned on ITV’s This Morning that she was conned out of a humungous amount of money.

Cheryl said: “There is a circumstance that started this, which I can’t talk about at this moment in time, but it started to spiral.

“The only way I can say it is I was conned out of a humongous amount of money.

“That led to the cancer thing and everything spiralled. I was robbing Peter to pay Paul.

“I ended up having to sell my house. Now I am living up north and renting.”

Emmerdale confirms major character is dead after 17 years on show in heartbreaking scenes following limo crash

EMMERDALE has confirmed the fate of one of its most popular characters after 17 years on the show.

Leyla Harding, played by Roxy Shahidi, was revealed to be dead after the horror limo crash.

Jacob was heartbroken to discover his mum’s body[/caption]

It was revealed last year that Roxy would be leaving the soap and now it has been confirmed that show producers took the decision to kill Leyla off.

Whilst it was confirmed in Tuesday’s episode that a patient had died in the ambulance on the way to hospital, it was only confirmed that it was Leyla today.

In heartbreaking scenes, Leyla’s son Jacob was working a shift in the hospital when a number of villagers were rushed in following the horror crash.

Jacob was left panicked when he heard that his mum was one of them to be taken by the paramedics and was soon left confused as to why he could not find her in any of the hospital wards.

It was then that Jacob finally discovered the lifeless body of his mum with a colleague informing him that Leyla was dead upon arrival.

Leyla died from “severe blood loss” after she was impaled in the stomach by ice during the deadly crash.

She could be seen quietly bleeding out in the car but only revealed the extent of her injuries when she informed Kerry Wyatt that she could not move before she began to lose consciousness.

Although Kerry managed to drag Leyla across the ice, she died soon after from the blood loss and traumatic injury.

Leyla became the second casualty of the smash after Suzy Merton who died almost instantly after the impact of the smash.

Her body was left to sink in the limo as it went beneath the water after the rest of the villagers had managed to flee the ice.

Although Leyla and Suzy were the only two to die as a result of the crash – a third death was uncovered in the form of a mystery body lurking in the water.

Amy Wyatt came face-to-face with the body as she plunged straight through the ice.

Speculation is rife that the body belongs to Nate Robinson who left the Dales in September of last year.

The body could be seen wearing a bracelet identical to that of Nate’s.

It also matched Tracy’s bracelet; both had been made for them by their daughter Frankie.

At the end of the episode, Amy’s life was still hanging in the balance as she appeared to suffer a seizure in hospital.

It saw her have a traumatic flashback to coming face-to-face with the mystery body once more.

Biggest soap stunts

By Conor O’Brien

Soaps are no stranger to dramatic stunts in the storylines. Not only do these moments create a spectacle for viewers, they also fundamentally change characters’ lives.

Here is a look at some of the biggest soap stunts from over the years.

CORONATION STREET

  • Tram crash (2010): The ITV soap marked its 50th anniversary with a intense tram crash – and live episode to boot. Overall, the crash and its effects were broadcast across a week in December 2010. Its resulting chaos saw regular characters Ashley Peacock (Steven Arnold) and Molly Dobbs (Vicky Binns) die.
  • Richard Hillman tries to kill the Platts (2003): Of all the men unlucky-in-love Gail tied the knot with, Richard Hillman (Brian Capron) is probably the one she regrets most in hindsight. In 2003, murderer Richard tried to kill his step-family: first by gassing them with car fumes and then driving Gail (Helen Worth), Sarah (Tina O’Brien), David (Jack P. Shepherd) and Bethany (Amy and Emily Walton) into a canal.

EASTENDERS

  • Queen Vic fire (2010): In September 2010, EastEnders bid farewell to matriarch Peggy Mitchell (Barbara Windsor) as a permanent fixture on the soap – she returned as a guest before the character’s death in 2016. In the build-up to her initial exit, Peggy had trapped crack cocaine-addicted son Phil (Steve McFadden) in the Queen Vic. However, he escaped and set the boozer on fire.
  • Bus crash (2017): In April 2017, a total of 11 Albert Square residents had their lives at risk in a terrifying bus crash. The stunt saw a double decker bus – the 764 to Barking – lose control and crash through the Albert Square market before hitting a low-level bridge. Notable passengers at the time included Denise Fox (Diane Parish) and Louise Mitchell (Tilly Keeper).

EMMERDALE

  • James Barton’s death (2016): Interestingly about James’ (Bill Ward) death was that it came in a spiral of events. After wife Emma (Gillian Kearney) locked James up in a jealous rage, he escaped and they tussled on a bridge over the bypass. Emma pushed him and James fell into traffic, in turn causing a 12-vehicle pile up, As well as James dying, key characters including Ashley Thomas (John Middleton) and Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) were injured.

New £55m MH370 search ‘set to BEGIN’ as jet-hunter ship steams towards crash zone…could 11yr mystery finally be solved?

THE latest hunt for the missing plane MH370 could begin in days as robotic vessels have reportedly begun making their way to the new search area.

According to marine tracking data, ships belonging to underwater robotics company Ocean Infinity have been dispatched to an area in the Southern Indian Ocean believed to be the last known location of the jet.

A computer-generated image shows what the MH370’s final moments might look like after it’s believed to have plummeted into the Southern Indian Ocean in 2014[/caption]

Back in December, the Malaysian Government made a bombshell announcement that a fresh hunt would be launched for the missing aircraft that vanished over a decade ago with 239 onboard.

The biggest search in aviation history was launched after its disappearance as well as other smaller sweeps but all were unsuccessful.

Families and loved ones were beginning to lose hope that they might one day finally know what happened to those onboard.

But Malaysian officials revealed that a new £55million hunt involving underwater search teams from Ocean Infinity had been given the green light for this year.

The proposal is said to be based on new “credible” evidence but was agreed with the marine company on a no-find no-fee basis.

The search is expected to resume in a 15,000sqkm area off the coast of Western Australia, near the last known location of the aircraft.

While no official confirmation has been given for the latest MH370 search spot it’s thought that boats will sweep an area mostly covered in a previous Ocean Infinity hunt in 2018.

It will also cover crash sites proposed by three separate expert groups – The Independent Group, MH370 Caption Group and Richard Godfrey’s WSPR analysis team.

The Sun also previously explored three possible areas that could be covered by Ocean Infinity as part of the search.

Months have passed since the announcement from Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke, but marine tracking data suggests the hugely-anticipated hunt could be just days away.

It shows that Ocean Infinity’s Armada ship 78 06 has been dispatched to the Southern Indian Ocean meaning the search may be imminent.

Images shared online showed the vessel being tracked over the last few days.

The vessel was recently stationed in Mauritius, where experts and MH370 sleuths believed it was testing its search equipment.

If the Armada continues on its proposed route it will be heading straight towards the MH370 crash zone arriving on February 23.

The search was expected to take place between January and April 2025 when weather conditions are more favourable but the expedition appears to have suffered delays.

The area of the ocean being covered by search teams has previously been described as some of the most difficult terrain on Earth.

Former Naval officer Peter Waring, who was involved in the search for MH370 in 2014, told The Sun:  “This is arguably the most rough area of ocean in terms of sea state in the world, ships are moving so slowly you could walk faster.

“…It’s really dangerous, we were very lucky no one got hurt and or killed and it annoyed me that we were so flippant with their [crew’s] safety.”

PLANE RIDDLE

The Malaysian Airlines flight disappeared from flight radar screens on March 8 2014 as it flew from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people onboard.

The official MH370 narrative suggests the plane made a bizarre U-turn, flying across Malaysia, turning northwest at Penang Island and across the Andaman Sea.

Data from military radar and satellite data revealed that the plane flew on for hours towards the Southern Indian Ocean where it crashed in an unknown location.

The biggest search in aviation history was launched after the disappearance but no wreckage was found[/caption]

It sparked the biggest search in aviation history and still the fate of the jet remains a mystery.

Countless theories have been touted in the years since it vanished, including a depressurised cabin sparking a ghost flight into oblivion and a suicidal pilot deliberately ditching the plane.

Now Ocean Infinity is set to reignite hope in the hunt for the doomed jet.

The company previously revealed to The Sun that it had submitted the new search proposal in June last year.

It told how three of its robot submarine vessels were on standby waiting for the green light from officials.

WSPR technology looks set to play a big part, with Professor Simon Maskell acting as an adviser to the Ocean Infinity team.

Professor Maskell’s team at Liverpool University are researching the use of WSPR tech to detect and track aircraft.

Some experts in the MH370 community however have cast doubt on the reliability of the technology.

Searchers could even use hydrophone data – sound picked up by underwater microphones to trace the plane’s final resting place.

Ocean Infinity will receive a whopping £55million from the Malaysian government – if it finds new wreckage of the jet.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said in a previous statement that the government has a “responsibility and obligation” to those who lost loved ones when the plane vanished in March 2014.

“Our responsibility and obligation and commitment is to the next of kin. We hope this time will be positive, that the wreckage will be found and give closure to the families,” he said.

Loke added: “The Cabinet has agreed in principle to accept Ocean Infinity’s proposal to resume the search for MH370’s wreckage in a new search area estimated at 15,000km (9,320 miles) per square based on the no-find-no-fee principle.

“This means the government will not have to pay unless the wreckage is found.”

Ocean Infinity first searched for the doomed jet in January 2018 with its Seabed Constructor robot but was unsuccessful.

The underwater machine instead discovered the wreck of the Argentine San Juan submarine after it vanished in 2017 killing all onboard.

Ocean Infinity has been involved in several high-profile projects such as the search for Ernest Shackleton’s ship and the hunt for the Stellar Daisy the largest ship ever to be lost at sea.

The Sun has reached out to Ocean Infinity for comment.

I cleared the shelf at my local ASDA and have all birthdays sorted for the year for £34.50 – the deals were so good

IF you’ve got kids, you’ll know the countless birthdays of classmates can get expensive quickly.

That’s why savvy mums keep their eye out for discounted gifts they can stock up on to save money throughout the year.

One smart parent hit the jackpot at her local ASDA, and shared her impressive haul online.

She posted her bargain finds to the 2.6 milion members of Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, where users share deals, offers and money-saving tips with eachother.

The proud bargain hunter wrote: “Loads of reduced Lego in ASDA Fulwood (Preston). Small sets £2.25, medium £3.50 and big £6.25.

“ETA: I was there around 3pm. I left plenty on shelves. Only set I emptied shelf of was the two doggy sets at back! I even pointed the Lego out to another mama and kids down the toy aisle.

“I’m not a reseller. My girls have taken a set each and the others will be used for the inevitable birthdays throughout year or as pure bribery to buy myself 5 mins peace!”

She’d proudly snapped a pic of her steals, which included popular sets from the LEGO City range, like the burger van food truck set and the muscle car chase set.

Both sets were previously £14, and she’d managed to purchase them for £3.50.

She’d also managed to nab the adorable LEGO Creator 3 in 1 dogs toy, which comes with “a selection of cute breeds” to play with.

The beagle, labrador and poodle toy set was previously £25 and she’d managed to scan it through for just £6.25.

The cool toys make the perfect gift for children, and the ASDA website says they are great for “fun role play and storytelling.”

The money-saving mum even quipped that she plans to use some as incentive for her kids to give her a bit of peace and quiet every so often!

Although she’d felt the need to clarify she had no intention of selling the discounted items on for profit.

Some shoppers have faced backlash for for the cheeky hustle, which sees them clearing shelves for cheap goods and listing them online for more money.

Viewers react

Users in the comments couldn’t believe her luck.

One person wrote: “That is good, I paid over £30 for one of the burger ones.”

Another tagged a friend and told them to: “put away for Xmas.”

Somebody else exclaimed: “Wow!”

While another humphed: “Our nearest ASDA never have any good deals like this.”

And another person said glumly: “Congrats to all the people getting deals in Asda, I have been going for days and different branches but never meet deals in Gateshead.”

How to save at Asda

Shop the budget range

Savvy shopper Eilish Stout-Cairns recommends that shoppers grab items from Asda’s Just Essentials range.

She said: “Asda’s budget range is easy to spot as it’s bright yellow! Keep your eyes peeled for yellow and you’ll find their Just Essentials range.

“It’s great value and I’ve found it has a much wider selection of budget items compared to other supermarkets.

 Sign up to Asda Rewards

The savvy-saver also presses on the importance of signing up to Asda’s reward scheme.

She said: “Asda Rewards is free to join and if you shop at Asda you should absolutely sign up.

“As an Asda Rewards member, you’ll get exclusive discounts and offers, and you’ll also be able to earn 10% cashback on Star Products.

“This will go straight into your cashpot, and once you’ve earned at least £1, you can transfer the money in your cashpot into ASDA vouchers.

We’ve previously rounded up the best supermarket loyalty schemes – including the ones that will save you the most money.

Look out for booze deals

Eilish always suggests that shoppers looking to buy booze look out for bargain deals.

She said: “Asda often has an alcohol offer on: buy six bottles and save 25%.

“The offer includes selected bottles with red, white and rose options, as well as prosecco. There are usually lots of popular bottles included, for example, Oyster Bay Hawkes Bay Merlot, Oyster Bay Hawkes Bay Merlot and Freixenet Prosecco D.O.C.

“Obviously, the more expensive the bottles you choose, the more you save.”

Join Facebook groups

The savvy saver also recommends that fans of Asda join Facebook groups to keep in the know about the latest bargains in-store.

Eilish said: “I recommend joining the Latest Deals Facebook Group to find out about the latest deals and new launches in store.

“Every day, more than 250,000 deal hunters share their latest bargain finds and new releases.

“For example, recently a member shared a picture of Asda’s new Barbie range spotted in store.

“Another member shared the bargain outdoor plants she picked up, including roses for 47p, blackcurrant bushes for 14p and topiary trees for 14p.”

She also claimed that it takes a ‘village’ to raise her five kids[/caption]

As well as this, the Sort Your Life Out host, 35, advised tired mothers to ‘suck it up’ and ‘power through’.

Speaking on The High Performance Podcast, hosted by Jake Humphrey and Damian Hughes, Stacey, who lives at her huge £1.2 million home, Pickle Cottage, which has its own library and 2.5 acres of land, opened up on the support she and husband Joe Swash, 43, receive from her large family.

She said: “I couldn’t sit here and say I’m do it all on my own, cause I don’t.

“I have a huge family, I’m one of seven siblings, my mum and dad are incredible.”

Whilst many will know Stacey’s step-sister Jemma, fans were stunned to know that the star also has a half-brother, two step-brothers, and a brother and sister.

Not only this, but Stacey, who shares six children between her and Joe – Harry, 17, Zachary, 16, Leighton, 12, Rex, five, Rose, three, and Belle, two – as well as multiple jobs, four ducks and two dogs, continued: “Joe comes from a family where they’re really helpful as well and without the village, and I’m not joking, it’s a full village, without the village we couldn’t do what we do.

“I couldn’t take the opportunities that I’ve taken because I wouldn’t have anyone to take care of the kids and me and Joe always wanted it to be, you know, within our family as much as we possibly could.

“So if I’m working, he’s at home. If he’s working, I’m at home.

“My older boys go to their dad’s houses every other weekend and my dad is an amazing grandad, so sometimes he’ll say, ‘can I take all the kids out?’ and he will take the kids out.

“I can reset and build up some energy stores.”

Not only this, but the Loose Women presenter, who last year launched a kids’ range at Primark, then advised mothers: “This is the time of life where you power through every single second of each waking day if you wanna make the most of it and if you wanna get everything that you can out of it.

“And you just gotta suck it up – it’s gonna be hard and you’re gonna be tired.”

Without the village, and I’m not joking, it’s a full village, without the village we couldn’t do what we do

Stacey Solomon

Getting candid on her own family life, Stacey, who recently teased ‘big changes she’s always dreamed of’, continued: “We’ve got a nine month old, she’s still waking up in the night, so we’re sleep deprived.

“We are working as hard as we can to try and make sure we fulfill our goals and our children’s futures.”

Stacey Solomon's career so far

Stacey Solomon has been a familiar face on viewers' screens for over a decade. Let's take a look back at her career.

The X Factor (2009): Stacey competed in series six of long-running ITV singing competition The X Factor. During her time in the show, she was mentored by Danni Minogue in the ‘Girls’ category. The star finished in third place, behind Joe McElderry and Olly Murs.

“Just worry about how you’re gonna do it. Everyone’s circumstances are different. Everyone’s life is different.”

Stacey, who first came on the scene thanks to The X Factor in 2009, then added: “We have the privilege of family and help and people who will step in. So I think acceptance is key.”

STACEY Solomon splashed out a massive £1.2million on Pickle Cottage - and Joe Swash didn't put in a penny.

She solely stumped up the cash for their Tudor-style Essex property, which is set in 2.5 acres and boasts an outdoor swimming pool.

The former X Factor star and Joe live there with Zachary, Leighton, Rex, Rose, and Belle.

It’s not known why Stacey went alone, as ex-EastEnders actor Joe is reportedly worth over £1million, but has also been made bankrupt twice in 2009 and 2013.

Shrewd Stacey has shown she’s a dab hand at running a wide range of successful businesses including TV, books, clothing and homeware ranges.

Her main firm Key Map Entertainments is worth just shy of £3million – and she’s also branched out into cosmetics.

The former X Factor contestant registered the company Belle & Rose Ltd, named after her youngest two daughters.

One person said: “I thought it was only her and Jemma! Never knew she was 1 of 7!”

Another added: “1 of 7… I thought there was only her and her sister!”

At the same time, Stacey’s fans were also eager to praise her ‘honesty’.

Meanwhile, someone else admitted: “Not me sat here after losing both parents feeling a little jealous, I am not gonna lie.”

Antony has scored three goals in his first four games, producing one assist, showing why United were so desperate to sign him for £85million in 2022.

He has looked revitalised and he puts it down to being happy, suggesting he feels more calm and at ease at Betis.

Antony told AS: “I’ve had a great time in Manchester too, I won two titles and I’m very grateful.

“But when I say that I’ve found myself here, I’m happy, the people are like us in Brazil. The sun helps a lot.

“I’m very happy here. I wake up every day with a smile and that’s very important.

“I have a lot of friends who played here and they left me very calm so that I could sign here. I was sure in my heart that coming here was the best decision for me. I hope to continue like this.”

Antony has adjusted quickly to his new team and he puts it down to the skill of his team-mates.

He highlighted former Real Madrid star Isco as a big influence, as well as ex-Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso.
