BBC Breakfast’s Jon Kay pays tribute to co-star on their last day in gushing post after they QUIT show
JON Kay paid tribute to a BBC Breakfast co-star on their last day after they QUIT the show.
Last month, it was revealed Nina Warhurst had quit her long-running role as the show’s business correspondent for a brand new gig.

She will be joining the team on BBC News at One as the lead presenter, live from Salford.
Taking to Instagram, Jon shared a carousel of photos showcasing his and Nina’s time working together on BBC Breakfast.
He captioned: “This was definitely NOT goodbye – but today was Nina’s last shift doing the Money & Work job on Breakfast before she starts her new role presenting the BBC One O’Clock News.
“She’ll still be based in Salford – still working with the same team in the same studio.
“She’ll still be presenting Breakfast with us sometimes. And she’ll always be a mate.
“But I just wanted to say what a pleasure it has been to work with her since I joined Brekkie.
“She’s one of the most talented, dedicated, versatile, fun and fearless people I know.
“She commits 100% to any story or issue she’s covering. She always puts the audience first. And she’s exactly the same off-air as she is on the sofa.”
He concluded: “Much as we’ll miss her energy and smiles at 0445, we’re all delighted for her that she can now have a little more sleep – and a bit more time at home with her wonderful family in the mornings. She’ll be amazing at lunchtime x.”
Meanwhile, Nina found herself at the centre of a technical blunder in Tuesday’s (April 1) episode.
As she began to speak about food inflation – in light of increasing household bills – the star soon noticed her microphone wasn’t working.
Nina said: “One moment, sorry! I’ll just get that on,” while trying to adjust the volume on her mic pack.
She continued: “There we are, that’s my fault apologies,” before coming to a halt again as her voice kept cutting out.
“No, microphone’s not working. I’m so sorry, I will bring you the news on food inflation a little bit later,” she added, before handing back to Sally Nugent and Jon.
Sally noted how it was “very unusual” for microphones not to be working, as Nina confirmed her mic “was on”.
Nina had been part of the BBC Breakfast team as their resident business reporter since 2018.
She also served as a relief presenter for when regular hosts were unavailable.
Who are the current presenters of BBC Breakfast?

The flagship BBC show has had dozens of presenters during its impressive 40 years on air but the current stars are:
Jon Kay – Since 2022
Sally Nugent – Since 2021
Charlie Stayt – Since 2006
Naga Munchetty – Since 2014
Carol Kirkwood – Since 1997
Previously writing on X, the presenter both confirmed the news and revealed her new position.
She penned: “Hanging up the high-viz & hairnet as I join the BBC’s News at One.
“Our London team built a gem of a programme & it’s a privilege to be on the Salford team taking it forward.
“The teenage me who lived half a mile from here & dreamed of journalism would NOT believe it.”

Met Eireann pinpoint 8 counties 21C heat to hit as weather experts promise ‘no significant rainfall’ for next TWO weeks
MET Eireann has pinpointed exactly where the best of the warm temperatures will hit over the coming days as sunshine continues.
Temperatures could hit as high as 21 this week, and while weather bosses have warned of some rain to fall over tomorrow evening and night, it will be a minimal amount.

Cathal Nolan of Ireland’s Weather Channel said the next two weeks is “likely to be very dry” as high pressure pushes over Ireland.
He explained: “It has been very dry and indeed looking ahead for the next two weeks there’s no real sign of any significant rainfall, other than the chance of a couple of showers pushing into the south and southeast of the country.
“Mostly on Thursday night and very early on Friday.
“Thursday and Friday themselves for most of the country two dry days as well with good sunny spells likely for the majority.”
Accompanying dry weather today will be summery temperatures of 12C to 18C and sunny spells.
However, despite the nice day today is set to get chillier later on tonight, with temperatures plunging to almost freezing.
Met Eireann warn: “Tonight will remain dry and mostly clear in just light easterly or variable winds.
“Chilly in places though with lowest temperatures of 1C to 6C.”
Thursday will be dry and sunny but weather bosses warn it will be “a little bit breezier”.
However, despite breezier conditions temperatures will still sit between 12C to 19C, with 20C temperatures possible in certain places.
Met Eireann advised: “With highs tomorrow of 12C to 19C or possibily 20C.
“Warmest again across west and northwest counties.”
Counties in this region that could be facing those 20C temperatures tomorrow include Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim and Roscommon.
Cavan, Donegal and Monaghan may also see temperatures hit the 20s.
However, later in the evening rain will move in across the country, feeding up from southern counties.
But rainfall amounts will be minimal, Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather promised.
The weather expert said: “A stunning morning and a great Wednesday ahead.
“Latest Met Eireann ensembles show less than 5mm of rain for most Thursday night into Friday morning but over 5mm possible near South and Southeast coast.”
21C WEEKEND
Friday will see some “residual rain” early on but it will mostly clear to yet another dry and sunny day.
Temperatures during the day on Friday could reach a scorching 21C in some places.
Met Eireann advise this is most likely in the west where it will be “the warmest”.
Despite the soaring temperatures during the day, they will fall back down to 1C overnight.
But this will be accompanied by further clear and dry weather.
For the rest of the weekend Met Eireann said: “Temperatures will fall back a little with some cold and clear nights.
“However, it will be dry, sunny and very pleasant by day with no more than moderate easterly winds.”

Watch as Stacey Solomon left ‘fuming’ as Joe Swash arrives FIVE hours late to pick up the kids
STACEY Solomon was left fuming in her family reality show last night after husband Joe Swash was five hours late picking up their kids.
The mum-of-five had been excitedly looking forward to her first meeting to discuss the creation of her debut fragrance, but it was disrupted by her crying children.

The TV star did her best to pacify them while getting through the agenda with her team.
She told the camera: “Joe was supposed to come to this meeting but he’s been delayed indefinitely it seems.”
Partway through, a breathless Joe entered the room and apologised for being 20 minutes late due to traffic.
However, Stacey told him he was actually closer to five hours late, prompting her associate to take a swipe at Joe’s 20 minute guestimate.
After Joe left the room with their youngest in tow, Stacey’s face betrayed her disappointment.
Following the meeting, the family could be seen playing in the garden and there appeared to be tension between them.
Stacey explained that Joe liked to ‘wallow in self pity’ when he felt hard done by. However, the frosty atmosphere didn’t last long as the kids splashed around the Pickle Cottage pool.
The warts and all BBC docuseries lays bare life at the couple’s family home.
Stacey was left clashing with 17-year-old son Zach after he had a late-night party that went on until 4am.
She had allowed him to throw a party with his friends to mark the end of summer providing he woke up by 11am the next day and helped with the clean-up operation.
However, she was left seething when he was still in his room at 12:45pm.
Stacey bellowed: “Right, it’s not cool and it’s not clever.
“I am happy you had a great time but the party is over!”
They continued to row over the time, with Zach insisting his 4am bedtime had prevented him from waking up any earlier.
Stacey demanded he take the bins out before “clearing up the bottom of the garden”.
Things escalated as Stacey added: “Shall I let the boys [Zach’s friends] know that they are ready for their chores too?”
A fuming Zach hit back: “No! What are you doing – you’re p***ing me off!”
Stacey then lost her cool and raged: “If you swear at me one more time Zach – no, I’m not joking.
“No, just because there is people here doesn’t mean I won’t have that argument with you.
“No, you won’t do that!”
Zach then replied that “no one cares” before walking off after the fiery confrontation.
