Hollyoaks star Ali Bastian shares emotional update as she recovers from her gruelling cancer treatment
HOLLYOAKS star Ali Bastian has shared an emotional update as she recovers from he gruelling cancer treatment.
The former Hollyoaks actress was diagnosed with breast cancer last year after discovering a lump she initially thought was a blocked milk duct while breastfeeding her youngest child.

Ali, who played Becca Dean on the Channel 4 soap, was told in June that she had stage 2 breast cancer.
The actress has undergone 16 rounds of chemotherapy and lost her hair through treatment.
But in a new update while smiling and lapping up the sun, Ali told fans: “Sitting out with Molly having a cup of tea looking out to and I just realised I can feel the wind in my hair for the first time for a long time and it feels goooood!
”
In the clip, Ali can be seen sitting in a fluffy grey jumper with her dog Molly on her lap.
She smiles as the wind hits her hair and appears emotional, before turning the camera to face her stunning countryside surroundings.
Fans adored Ali’s post, as one commented: “Amazing. Can only imagine how good this is.”
A second penned: “Love this Ali so much,” and a third wrote: “looking fantastic lovely, enjoy every minute.”
Just last month, Ali shared an incredible update on social media, thanking her medical team and fans for their unwavering support during her cancer battle.
She wrote: “Thank you so much for all your birthday messages last week, I’m honestly so grateful for all the love and support from my little corner of social media.
“I wanted to update you all. I’m on to my final week of radiotherapy, which should mark the end of my active treatment — I hope and pray for good!
“I had my mastectomy in January, which was thankfully a success and has healed really well. It proved that my chemo had worked.
“As I sit here right now, I’m free from cancer. I can’t even believe it.”
Ali went on to praise the “incredible” team at Cork University Hospital who cared for her throughout her treatment, from her consultants to the oncology nurses who offered comfort during her most difficult moments.
She said: “The nurses have given me compassion, time, and space to share and talk about my experience of a very challenging treatment pathway — one that, although we thank God exists, is not only a lot for the body to process but an awful lot to process mentally and emotionally.”

She also gave a heartfelt shoutout to a staff member called Stef who serves tea to chemo patients, adding: “You make an incredible difference to a lonely journey.”
She went on: “To be coming out of the other side of this feels unreal.
“After the shock of a diagnosis, it’s hard to let in the light and believe that it might just be OK.
“The road back to my life won’t be a linear one… and I will share with you, as always, as much of my truth of this experience as I can.
“I am so, so grateful for all of your support. People with cancer, experiencing cancer treatment, need love. Full stop. Unconditional, arms-around-you love and support.”
Ali ended her post with a heartfelt message, saying: “When it’s dark, look for stars.”

Arne Engels gave De Bruyne a run for his money in free-kick battle and he’ll only get better, insists ex-Celtic hero
Hinkel has also been following the progress of his countryman Nicolas Kuhn at the champions this season.
The winger started the campaign on fire, and while his performances have tailed off slightly, he will still be in the running for Player of the Year honours.
Hinkel always knew the ex-Ajax and Bayern Munich winger could make in impact if given the chance.
He said: “I was aware of Nicolas when he was younger and it’s always great to see German players at Celtic.
“He took time to settle, but he has shown this season how good he can be with his goals and his assists.
“Nicolas has become a big player for Celtic. I was really impressed with him and the rest of the team in the Bayern Munich games.
“Everyone I spoke to agreed that they at least deserved to take the second leg to extra time in Germany.
“It was a cruel way to go out of the Champions League, but Celtic will be better for that experience.
“They had some highs and lows in the new format, but you can see them developing as a team.
“Celtic played so well in Munich and I fully expect them to be back in the Champions League next season.”
Hinkel, 43, is currently out of the game after leaving his role with the Belgium FA back in January.
He previously worked with head coach Domenico Tedesco at Spartak Moscow and RB Leipzig, and they are likely to team up again.
Hinkel is also open to striking out on his own as a manager one day, but plans to spend some time with his wife and five kids first.
He added: “You always miss being involved in football but it’s family time for me now.
“I hope to return to coaching in the future, with Domenico or as a coach myself.
“You never want to be out for too long. But I’ve travelled a lot during my career and now it’s time to spend some time with my wife and kids and take a little break.”

UK’s most rare 50ps including Kew Gardens coin worth up to 1,400 times its face value – key details to spot
EXPERTS have revealed the most sought-after collectable 50p coins right now.
They might be hard to get hold of, but they could make you a good amount of money if you find them.

The 50p is the most collectable out of all the coins in circulation, but you would need to find certain rare designs for it to be worth anything more than its face value.
ChangeChecker regularly releases a scarcity index which keeps up to date on which coins are the most sought-after by collectors.
In the coin-collecting world, scarcity usually refers to how difficult a coin is to get hold of versus the demand for it among collectors.
The scarcity index combines a coin’s mintage figure with how many of each design is listed as “collected” by collectors on the web app – indicating how easy it is to find each coin – as well as the number of times a design has been requested as a swap.
This helps the coin experts to determine the true scarcity of a coin, as opposed to just looking at how many have been manufactured, or minted.
Interest can change among coin collectors so it’s worth keeping up to date with the latest scarcity index.
The 2023 Salmon 50p is the rarest 50p in circulation, with just 200,000 minted.
The rare coin was struck to highlight the plight of the salmon, whose population is in decline.
But despite its rarity, it is actually not considered among the scarcest on the index.
ChangeChecker says this is because collectors are “less likely to want to part with it, so very few swaps have taken place”.
These are the top five most scarce coins right now, according to the latest analysis…
1. Kew Gardens – worth up to £700
Mintage – 210,000

This 50p has become one of the most talked about collectors’ coins in the last 15 years, according to the Royal Mint.
It was originally released in 2009 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the opening of Kew Gardens in London.
Its reverse side features the famous Chinese Pagoda at Kew, encircled by a leafy climber plant.
The coin is among the most rare 50ps in circulation and we’ve seen it sell for as much as £707 before on eBay.
2. Triathlon – worth up to £30
Mintage – 1,163,500

This coin is part of the set of Olympics coins released to commemorate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
It was minted in 2011 and depicts the popular sport.
The highest recent sale we’ve found on eBay recently was £30 on June 21.
3. Wrestling – worth up to £15
Mintage – 1,129,500

The Wrestling 50p coin comes from the same set but has a slightly lower mintage.
It is considered the second rarest Olympic 50p coin after the Football one.
The coin was designed by Roderick Enriquez, a graphic designer from Hammersmith, London.
We’ve seen it sell for as much as £15 online so is worth digging around for.
4. Football – worth up to £75
Mintage – 1,125,000

As we mentioned earlier, the Football 50p is the rarest of the Olympic coins.
It features an explanation of the controversial offside rule on it.
It has been known to sell for as much as £75 in the past.
5. Judo – worth up to £17.95
Mintage – 1,161,500

Rounding off the top five is another Olympic coin.
The judo coin was designed by David Cornell after he won a national competition.
The highest bid we’ve seen on eBay was for £17.95 in June last year.
What makes a coin rare?
If you’re lucky enough, rare coins have been known to sell for thousands in the past.
A coin is usually considered rare if it either has a very low mintage, or if it has an error.
Error coins are surprisingly valuable to collectors as the small changes to the design make them particularly rare.
How do I find out what my coin is worth?
If you’re checking your change for rare coins, you could look at websites like ChangeChecker to see which designs are usually sought after.
Coin Hunter gives you an estimated valuation of your coin based on the average of the most recent sales, as well as a range of how much you can expect it to fetch.
You can also check how much the coin is selling for on eBay.
Search the full name of the coin, select the “sold” listing and then toggle the search to “highest value”.
It will give you an idea of the amount of money that the coin is going for.
Remember, though, a rare coin is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
