‘Remember the sunscreen’ warning as Met Eireann pinpoint ‘dry & bright’ weather with ‘blue skies’ & 17C Spring temps

WEATHER bosses have pinpointed the exact day Spring temperatures are set to hit 17C this week.

Following highs this weekend of 16C, conditions are set to continue throughout the week with Spring weather emerging.

Temperatures are looking to see new highs this week as dry and bright weather dominates, bringing little showers or rainfall.

High pressure is sticking around over the coming days, bringing a warmer air flow across the country.

Carlow Weather’s Alan O’Reilly also said this week will see Saharan dust travel over Ireland, but confirmed this shouldn’t impact any freshly cleaned windows.

Alan said: “Saharan dust forecast to move up over Ireland later this week and next weekend but with no rain forecast it shouldn’t come down to ruin your washed windows.

“Can make for some nice sunrise and sunsets though.”

He also warned the public to remember to use sunscreen as high temperatures hit most parts.

He added: “A mild and cloudy start to the week but dry for most. Sunny spells will develop in the South this afternoon and slowly extend North.

“A fine week ahead with only risk of some rain on Thursday near South coast. Enjoy and remember the sunscreen.”

Met Eireann bosses have also confirmed good weather is here to stay this week as “increasing sunshine” hits.

Rebecca Cantwell said: “I’m happy to say I’m here to bring good news on this Monday morning.

“High pressure is sticking around this week and is set to feed in a south east to east air flow.

“That’s going to lead to lots of dry and bright weather for the week.”

TODAY’S WEATHER

Today is set to be the worst of the week, however this is by no means a bad day overall.

It will start out with some mist and fog with some small chances of isolated showers later, but otherwise a sunny day.

Rebecca said: “So we just had to get through today which isn’t a bad day by normal standards but there’s mist and fog patches around that clear way for most areas through this morning, just maybe lingering near the south and east coast for a little bit today.

“It’ll be mainly dry with just a small chance of a light isolated shower. but otherwise there’s sunny spells with increasing sunshine from the south as we go through the day.

“Highest temperatures of 13C to 17C today with light to moderate southerly winds.”

Tonight will then see clear and dry conditions as temperatures drop overnight.

She added: “Tonight is going to be dry and clear with temperatures only dropping to between 5C to 8C in light to moderate south to south east winds.”

TOMORROW’S OUTLOOK

Tomorrow will continue with long sunny spells as the country sees its first bout of completely blue skies.

Rebecca said: “It’s set to be dry and sunny tomorrow with long spells of hazy sunshine at first turning to blue skies as the day goes on.

“Highest temperatures of 11C to 15C, coolest in the east and south due to a moderate to fresh south easterly wind that’ll be strong at times in the south west.”

REST OF THE WEEK

The remainder of the week will see much more of the good weather hitting as it will remain dry and warm.

She said: “The rest of the working week will stay dry with lots of sunshine.

“Temperatures will reach highs in and around the mid teens, feeling warmest in the west as south east to east.

“Winds keep temperatures slightly cooler along south and east coasts.

“By night it’ll stay dry and clear with temperatures falling anywhere between 3C to 8C generally.”

The weekend is harder to predict but again is looking to remain settled with some cloud appearing.

She added: “By the weekend current indications suggest it will remain largely settled with a little bit more in the way of cloud expected and with temperatures turning slightly cooler too.”

‘Really getting on my nerves’ – Roy Keane blasts Erling Haaland for ‘smiling’ during Man City’s win over Bournemouth

ROY KEANE was unimpressed by Erling Haaland’s smile during Manchester City’s FA Cup quarter-final win over Bournemouth.

The Norwegian missed a penalty in the first half of the Vitality Stadium clash before squandering another good chance a few moments later.

A frustrated Haaland cracked a wry smile after his second straight miss, which well and truly irked Keane.

The ITV pundit said: “Haaland missing a penalty, very lackadaisical.

“Then, he missed another chance and he’s smiling.

“Man City strolling around the pitch are really getting on my nerves, not a good sign.”

Keane’s sentiment on City was echoed by fellow pundit Ian Wright, who said: “We know Bournemouth are going to force them wide and make them make mistakes.

“That’s exactly what Nunes did. This could have been very comfortable.

“They don’t seem in the vibe. They don’t seem up for it.”

Haaland would eventually get his name on the scoresheet in the 49th minute to level the tie.

He was subbed in the 61st minute after sustaining an injury, with City new boy Omar Marmoush replacing him.

And the Egypt international struck in the 63rd minute to seal a 2-1 win for City and send them to the semi-finals.

It’s currently unclear what injury Norway international Haaland is suffering from.

But he sparked serious cause for concern from the Etihad faithful by leaving the Vitality on crutches and in a protective boot.

City’s reward for beating Bournemouth is a semi-final clash with Nottingham Forest on April 26.

Tiernan Lynch backs ‘unbelievable’ Derry City players to bounce back from slow start to Premier Division campaign

DERRY CITY boss Tiernan Lynch believes he has the talent in his dressing room to rocket up the table.

The Candystripes drew 0-0 with Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght on Friday night in a game that saw both sides play the entire second half with ten men.

That point meant Derry remain in the bottom half of the table with just two wins from their seven games to date.

But Lynch — who moved from Larne to take over City in November and revamped the squad with eight new signings — believes it is a work in progress and says the early signs are good.

He said: “I don’t think there is a set time on it. People are sick listening to me but they are an unbelievable bunch of players, there is serious, serious talent in that changing room.

“There are players we need to get fit, players we need to get match-fit, players who haven’t just hit or found their rhythm yet.

“I think all of that is ahead of us. It’s not something we’re going to put a time frame on.

“If you look at our games, I don’t think we’ve had the same 11 on the pitch twice in a row and that’s something that will probably take a bit of time.

“We’re probably disappointed with how the game went on Friday regarding the sending-off. It could have been a different story if we kept 11 men on the pitch but Tallaght is a tough place to come and we’ll take the point.”

Lynch could not hide how aggrieved he felt over Danny Mullan’s second yellow card for a challenge on Aaron Greene.

By then, Rovers keeper Ed McGinty had been already dismissed by referee Paul McLoughlin.

Lynch admitted he never saw the yellow card being brandished because he turned to his bench assuming it was just a free against his team.

He said: “I didn’t think it was a sending-off and I’ve seen it back now and I’m even more convinced.

“I don’t want to be too harsh on referees as I know how difficult their jobs are. We all get things wrong and I’ve no problem with that, but I do think it was a big turning point.

“I didn’t think the ref was bad in any shape or form. I didn’t stand there pulling my hair out with the decisions he was making, I just thought that decision he got wrong.

“I’m hugely proud of the players, I thought they were excellent for long periods.

“Both teams have to take great credit, down to ten men and the effort and commitment they put in, both teams showed a real determination to try and win the game.”
