Ireland AM’s Muireann O’Connell shares fashion struggles before going on air and fans say ‘you are like every one of us’
IRELAND AM star Muireann O’Connell has shared the fashion struggles she suffered before going on air this morning.
The popular presenter returned to screens alongside her co-star Tommy Bowe, after the pair hosted the Royal Television Society awards.

Muireann always puts her best foot forward when it comes to styling her TV looks – and today she knocked it out of the park.
The TV star took to Instagram before the show to share some snippets of herself getting ready backstage.
The popular presenter looked puzzled as she tried her best to make her jeans from Macabees “work” with her khaki blouse.
Muireann told fans she “loves the jeans,” but struggles to make them look just right on her.
Dissatisfied with that option, Muireann quickly changed into her next option.
She donned a stunning jumper and maxi skirt combo; her lightweight green top was from Marks and Spencer’s.
She paired the top with a fabulous pink printed skirt from popular designer Fee G.
The Luna skirt currently retails on their site for €149.
Despite looking flawless in this option, Muireann felt she could still change her on-air look and opted to go back to the drawing board.
For her final look, Muireann wore a pair of metallic-styled pants and a light blue top.
Her silver metallic trousers were from Mango and retail on their website for €22.
Next, Muireann paired the pants with a short-sleeved blue cardigan from Styled by Sarah Rickard.
The piece was available on her website, but unsurprisingly, it is now sold out; it was listed at the price of €199.
Of course, the fashion didn’t stop there, as Muireann added a pair of stiletto heels and a chunky silver earring.
MUIR’S STRUGGLE
For her hair, Muireann’s new cropped bob is the main character in all of her most recent TV looks.
The chat show host has been ditching her usual beach waves for a sleek side parting and pin-straight look – and we are so here for it.
Showing off her options, Muireann wrote: “I did not have time to be putting all of these on. Eejit.”
Fans and friends all shared their love for the fabulous TV look as they took to the comment section.
Sarah Rickard said: “Look three is perfection! My cardi with the silver trousers… chef’s kiss.”
Edwina gushed: “These are fab looks Muireann.”
Sherna remarked: “Love today’s look, cardi is gorgeous.”
Maureen joked: “I love them all on you and you are like every one of us getting ready… everything piled on the bed.”

Iconic seaside town pub to close after 500 years over ‘financial difficulties’ as landlord blasts ‘more will follow’
AN HISTORIC pub is to close after serving customers for almost 500 years.
The Hole in the Wall started serving drinks in Cornwall in 1540, but is set to stop trading after it closes on April 13.

The pub’s landlord, Richard Rossendale-Cook, blamed rising costs for forcing his hand.
He said: “I’m very very sad, of course I’d like to carry on.”
“But unless somebody comes up – a Russian oligarch or someone will give me £360,000 to go and pay off the bill, you are going to shut and that’s the end of it.”
The pub, which is owned by the brewery that provides its beer, is being closed down as Mr Rossendale-Cook is no longer able to afford the rent.
In a Facebook post, the Hole in the Wall said, “Thank you all for your loyal custom over the years, with many great memories created, to add to the centuries’ more storied history here at the Hole”.
People have responded with their disappointment of the announcement, writing “it will be greatly missed”.
Another user said the closure was “a shame for the community but inevitable with the cost of living crisis”.
The charm of the Torquay pub includes its cobbled floors and low-beam ceiling.
It was historically known to be a frequented spot for smugglers and pirates when it first opened in the 15th century.
Closure of historic pubs like The Hole in the Wall is raising concerns about the potential end of pubs without Government help.
This follows research which revealed more than 400 pubs across the UK closed in the last year.
One of those included the a branch of the iconic Hard Rock Cafe in Newcastle, which opened in May 2021.
Pubs are also set to face changes in their licensing laws from tomorrow, where takeaway pints will introduced during the pandemic will no longer be able to be sold.

Harry demanded charity boss ‘explain herself’ in ‘unpleasant’ note after she refused to defend Meghan over polo spat
PRINCE Harry allegedly demanded charity boss to explain herself in an “unpleasant” note after she refused to defend Meghan over the polo spat.
The Duke of Sussex contacted Dr Sophie Chandauka, the chairman of Sentebale, after a spat at a polo match in Miami last year.

It is alleged he requested the lawyer to issue a statement denying the circling rumours about a feud with Meghan.
Inside sources have since revealed the charity boss was taken aback by the “unpleasant” nature of the note.
And her refusal to follow the Royal’s demands is believed by them to have led to his eventual resignation as head of the HIV children’s charity he co-launched almost 20 years ago.
The Miami spat
Sources say relations between the pair went downhill after Harry tried to hijack a 2024 polo fundraiser, causing it to be rearranged.
In an interivew with Sky News’ Trevor Phillips, shown yesterday, Dr Chandauka said a family had generously offered the use of their grounds at a discount.
But a month before, “Harry called the team and said, ‘I’m doing a Netflix show, and I would love to bring a camera crew so that I can include some footage’”.
She went on: “The team called me and tell me, ‘Oh, Prince Harry’s made this request, so we’re doing the things’. I said, ‘You can’t be doing the things without seeking consent from the property owners, the sponsors, all the guests’.
“Nobody signed up into being on a Netflix show.”
Dr Chandauka, 47, said that now it had become a “commercial undertaking” the site owner wanted to charge more.
She added: “We couldn’t afford it so now we lost the venue.”

Another was found, in Wellington, Florida, and Meghan said she would not be there.
However, she turned up at the last minute with tennis legend Serena Williams “which caused a lot of disruption”.
She said “a lot of people were unhappy because we worked on this for months”.
There was also an awkward exchange on stage when Dr Chandauka was asked not to pose next to Harry as they presented a trophy.
ROW DEEPENS Harry’s charity row proves he & Meg are hypocrites – for years they’ve acted like ‘victims’… until now, expert says
In an exclusive interview with Nick Ede, Jonathan Rose reports:
Prince Harry’s charity row proves he and Meghan Markle are “hypocrites”, an expert has claimed.
It comes after the head of a charity founded by the Duke of Sussex, 40, accused him of trying to “eject” her through “bullying” and “harassment”.
Harry announced on Tuesday that he and several trustees had quit Sentebale, the charity he set up with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in 2006, amid a boardroom battle within the organisation.
Sophie Chandauka has been chairwoman of Sentebale since 2023.
She accused the duke of being “involved” in a “cover-up” of an investigation about bullying, harassment and misogyny at the organisation.
Ms Chandauka also said the “toxicity” of his “brand” had impacted the charity.
She claimed she was rudely asked twice by Meghan to budge and had to duck under the trophy.
She said: “The international Press captured this, and there was a lot of talk about the Duchess and the choreography on stage and whether she should have been there and her treatment of me.”
Harry later asked the chairwoman to release a statement “in support of the Duchess”.
But she refused, saying: “We’re not setting a precedent by which we become an extension of the Sussex PR machine.”
Dr Chandauka said the Sussexes’ brand has become “toxic” — and there were red flags around them as soon as she arrived.
She conducted a financial review and discovered a “significant correlation” between Harry leaving the UK in 2020 and a drop in donations from major organisations.
She asked her senior executives why they had not raised the issue during board meetings and was stunned by the response. She said:
“The answer is, ‘It’s really difficult to have this conversation because the instruction was, it’s uncomfortable conversation to have with Prince Harry in the room’.”
As relations began to deteriorate between the chairwoman and Harry and the trustees, Dr Chandauka made a complaint about bullying, harassment and misogyny.
She accuses the Duke of Sussex of trying to “interfere” with the investigation.
However, she added that the misogyny did not stem from him and his associates.
The Sussex’s team have been approached for comment.
‘Illusion of security’ – Urgent WhatsApp €1200 scam alert as Irish users in top cohort targeted by ‘ruthless’ criminals
VICTIMS of WhatsApp scams on Revolut were fleeced out of on average €1,200 last year, according to a new report from the digital bank.
Ireland is the second worst affected country in Europe from frauds on the popular messaging platform, with only the UK being more vulnerable as fraudsters target English-speaking countries.

Scams originating on WhatsApp spiked by close to 65 per cent in Ireland last year, while Irish cases represented 12 per cent of all fraud.
The average loss per WhatsApp scam was €1,200, substantially more than the €260 average lost originating from Facebook scams.
Revolut’s third Security and Financial Crime Report also found that fraudsters are increasingly targeting WhatsApp users, moving away from other known platforms.
The total monetary loss suffered by Facebook scams fell by 13 per cent the first half and second half 0f 2024, whilst Instagram scams rose 64 per cent during the same period.
Woody Malouf, Head of Financial Crime at Revolut, said: “The illusion of security on encrypted messaging apps like WhatsApp is being ruthlessly exploited by criminals.
“We’re seeing consumers increasingly letting their guards down to unsolicited messages received on WhatsApp more than any other platform, perhaps due to the belief that if someone has their number, they have a legitimate reason for getting in contact.
“The significant financial losses demonstrate the devastating impact these frauds are having on individuals.
“Encryption does not equate to immunity from scams. WhatsApp has a fundamental responsibility to protect its users, and their current approach is clearly failing.”
Reinforcing the need to remain vigilant, Malcolm Craig, General Manager at Revolut Bank -Ireland Branch, added: “We know how easy it can be to unwittingly fall for a scam via more personal messaging platforms such as WhatsApp.
“Somebody having your phone number can often make you feel more confident to proceed but be wary, particularly in local community group chats.
“The protection of our customers’ funds is our utmost priority and we strongly urge people to recognise the threat that unsolicited messages on WhatsApp can pose.
“Equally, Revolut will never contact you outside of our secure in-app chat without first confirming with you via the app itself.”
In 2024 alone, Revolut said it prevented over €700 million in potential fraud against its customers globally.
