COPY OF Incredible moment hero pins Amsterdam knifeman who stabbed women in the back in ‘random attack’ on tourists injuring 5

THIS is the incredible moment a hero tourist wrestles and pins the Amsterdam knifeman who stabbed five in a “random” attack.

The assailant knifed a woman in the back and slashed two American tourists, amongst others, in the heart of the Dutch capital.

After several minutes of violence on Thursday, a heroic intervention from a passerby put an end to the horror.

The knifeman was held in a citizen’s arrest until being detained by police shortly after 3:30pm local time.

And now, incredible footage has emerged of the moment the civilian overpowered the thug.

The clip shows the hero kneeling on top of the attacker who is pinned face-down on the tiled square.

His hands are pulled behind his back, held fast by the brave man.

A crowd of shocked civilians encircles the pair, but the hero has the situation comfortably under control.

Police later swooped on the assailant and took him to hospital for treatment to a leg wound.

They confirmed the saviour was a tourist in the city, but did not give his nationality.

The cops described his intervention as “heroic”.

They explained he had stopped attacker with a citizen’s arrest, where “if you catch a suspect red-handed, you can hold him until the police arrive”.

The victims of the stabbings were a 67-year-old American woman and a 69-year-old American man, a 26-year-old Polish man, a 73-year-old woman from Belgium and a 19-year-old woman from Amsterdam.

Officials have not concluded what motivated the attack, but said they are considering that it was a random spree and/or terrorism.

Amsterdam’s mayor, Femke Halsema, said: “The police investigation is in full swing and has full priority at the moment. We hope to soon get more clarity about the background of this horrible stabbing.

She added: “Our hearts go out to the victims, their families and loved ones.”

Amsterdam’s justice and security minister, David van Weel, said it was “much too early” to give details on the background to the attack.

He added that the investigation had not ruled out terrorism as a motivation.

In the aftermath, a trauma team was deployed via helicopter, which landed directly on the iconic Dam Square, and a large cordon set up.

According to a worker at the local De 3 Fleschjes bar, diners saw an older woman and a young girl being stabbed in the back before falling to the ground.

One shopkeeper told local newspaper Parool: “I heard a knock and then I saw a girl had been stabbed in the back and a boy ran off.”

Another witness told De Telegraaf they suddenly heard an “icy scream” before panic broke out.

A third person added she heard a lot of shouting and screaming as people were seen running on the streets.

A meeting at Amsterdam’s Stopera building was interrupted, and mayor Halsema was pulled out of a council meeting when news of the attack broke.

Anyone with footage of the incident has been urged to submit it to police to help the investigation.

Amsterdam suffered several stabbing last year carried out by people with mental health problems.

The council set up a hotline for residents to reports concerns about suspicious or irrational behaviour.

Thursday’s city-centre attack also follows a spate of terror-motivated violence across Europe.

A Syrian asylum seeker was charged with murder after a 14-year-old boy was stabbed to death in a knife rampage in Austria.

Officials say the 23-year-old was motivated by “Islamic terrorism” before his alleged role in the bloodbath attack that left five others injured.

And in Munich, a mum and her child tragically died from serious injuries after a suspected Islamist terrorist rammed his Mini Cooper into a crowd.

The woman, 37, and her two-year-old daughter were among the 39 injured in the “shocking attack” said to be carried out by a rejected Afghan asylum seeker.

Templegate’s Grand National Festival day one preview and tips including one star who’s ‘mighty hard to beat’

THE entries for day one of the Grand National Festival have been revealed – and what a cracker we have in store.

The Aintree Hurdle is shaping up to be an unmissable renewal where yet again more questions will be asked of Constitution Hill.

Horse race start, with eventual winner on the far right.

The action from Aintree gets underway on Thursday – and Templegate reckons he’s already onto a winner[/caption]

While Nicky Henderson is also keen to run Lulamba again after he was chinned in a 100-1 shock at Cheltenham.

Templegate goes through the big Grade 1s below and delivers an early tip in each.

Don’t forget, the action gets underway on Thursday, April 3 – before the Grand National itself on Saturday, April 5.

MANIFESTO NOVICES’ CHASE

CROKE PARK swerved Cheltenham with this race in mind and Gordon Elliott’s patience can be rewarded.

He already has a couple of Grade 1 wins on his CV including at Leopardstown at Christmas when his stamina just about held out over three miles.

He then gave Ballyburn a race at the Dublin Racing Festival when even the 2m5f there wasn’t completely to his liking.

Moving down to 2m3f around a track like Aintree should be ideal and his good jumping will be an asset.

This could be a cracker if Arkle winner Jango Baie turns up as he’ll enjoy going up in distance after that victory over 2m at Cheltenham.

He’s lightly raced and would be a threat if Nicky Henderson turns him out again.

BOODLES 4YO HURDLE

LULAMBA is in the entries for this and would be mighty hard to beat if coming here.

He was more than a little unlucky to get chinned in the Triumph Hurdle by a 100-1 shot having his first spin over timber.

He had got the better of East India Dock after a real battle and that’s what left him open to a finisher.

He has few miles on the clock and running here would be a wise move.

If not, HELLO NEIGHBOUR looks a real Aintree-type of horse.

He didn’t get up the hill when sixth in the Triumph Hurdle with a mistake at the last flight not helping.

He can take another step forward for Gavin Cromwell.

AINTREE BOWL CHASE

GREY DAWNING missed the Cheltenham Festival with this race in mind.

His last victory was a solid one at Kelso where his jumping was superb and he had plenty left.

It was good to see that after his poor show in the King George where he was simply knackered after putting in a huge effort to finish a close second in the Lancashire Chase at a bottomless Haydock four weeks earlier.

Now we know he’s back on an even keel, he can better last year’s third in the Manifesto Chase at this meeting.

AINTREE HURDLE

I am willing to forgive CONSTITUTION HILL his tumble in the Champion Hurdle last time.

I think he was a bit unlucky as the hurdle was clattered by a horse in front of him and sprang back up just as he was jumping it.

This 2m4f is his limit stamina-wise but I think he’d have just a bit too much for Lossiemouth if getting round.

She ran a mighty race in the Mares’ Hurdle at the Festival and this trip is ideal.

Throw in her mares’ weight allowance and she’s a formidable foe and the obvious pick if Con Hill goes to Punchestown instead.

Fresh blow for Katie Price as her ‘adults only panto’ fails to sell hours before she hits stage with 90s TV legend

KATIE Price was dealt another blow this week after her ‘adults only panto’ failed to sell out.

The 46-year-old is set to hit the stage with 90s TV legend Bobby Davro this weekend but many tickets have been left unsold just hours before the show is set to begin.

Many tickets have been left unsold just hours before the show is set to begin[/caption]

Katie will take to the stage in a special one night only performance of the pantomime Pinocchio on Sunday at Northwich Memorial Court.

The production which will star Katie and is described as a “Hilarious Easter panto with no strings attached.”

Copy Cats and Eastenders’ star Bobby Davro is also joining the mum of five on stage for the x-rated production.

But, things are looking bleak as the venue still has huge swathes of seats left unsold, with just hours to go before show day.

Seating charts on the ticket booking site show large sections of empty chairs up for grabs – and they’re going for the bargain price of £24 each.

Katie has had a hard run in when it comes to pantos – back in January the star was called out for “not knowing” the choreography to her routine in Cinderella.

The Sun previously exclusively reported how the glamour model was being paid a five-figure salary for her role as a wicked step sister, alongside best pal and reality TV star Kerry Katona, 44.

She landed the £50,000 payday for teaming up with the Atomic Kitten songstress for the production – which was also held at Northwich Memorial Court.

Yet Katie, who has previously showed off her singing skills while sporting her character’s polka dot frock, has come under fire following a recent performance.

A video posted to TikTok showed the I’m A Celeb decked out in her panto attire and was captioned: “Seeing Katie Price sing A Whole New World as part of the Northwich pantomime was not on my 2024 bingo card.”

One fan was quick of the track – which Katie released with ex husband Peter Andre, 51, in 2006 – to reply: “Bad singing is mandatory in panto so it doesn’t surprise me.”

One said: “Wow did she even rehearse?”

Another cruelly put: “Omg she’s like a screeching cat Kate can’t sing.”

Another commented on a video showing a separate part of the show and focussed on her dance skills, as they put: “Katie getting the choreography wrong, an icon!”

One then mused: “Is it bad to say that she doesn’t look like she knows any of it?”

Katie also came under fire from panto bosses early into her theatre stint.

She was then seen parking in a disabled bay at the venue with no badge, yet then revealed it was because she had eldest Harvey in the car, who suffers from complex needs.

Harvey later joined her on-stage in a sweet surprise for fans.

And while she has taken flack from some fans, others have loved her panto stint in mid Cheshire.

Former Scotland rugby star appears in court accused of alleged domestic abuse

A FORMER Scotland rugby star has appeared in court accused of alleged domestic abuse.

Tim Visser, 37, appeared in the dock during a private petition hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.

He also played for Scotland[/caption]

Visser, whose address was only given as Midlothian, faced a single allegation under the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act 2018 Section 1.

The section of the act states a person commits an offence if they engage in a course of behaviour which is abusive of a partner or ex-partner and the behaviour is likely to cause a person to suffer physical or psychological harm.

He made no plea and was released on bail and the case was committed for further examination.

No date has been set down for his next court appearance.

Visser was born in the Netherlands, but opted against declaring for his home nation and played as a winger for the Scotland national team 33 times between 2012 and 2017.

Visser began his club rugby career in 2007 with Newcastle Falcons, and had brief loan spells in Northampton and Darlington before moving to Edinburgh Rugby in 2010 where he is the current record scorer with 59 tries.

In each one of his first four seasons with the club in the Scottish capital he was the side’s top try scorer.

In his time there, he earned three consecutive spots in the league’s ‘Dream Team‘, one Young Player of the Year, and one Player’s Player of the Year.

The 6ft 5inch winger and full back then moved onto top Premiership Rugby outfit Harlequins – based in Twickenham – in 2015 before retiring from the sport four years later.

He also made one international appearance that wasn’t for Scotland.

On his birthday in 2011, Visser played against England for the Barbarians – a British-based invitational team. He scored a late match-winning try in this game, and at half-time the club and its founder were inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame.

Visser is currently working as a property developer in Edinburgh.

Sep Visser, brother of Tim, briefly played alongside his sibling at Edinburgh Rugby but was released in 2013.

Sep chose to turn out for the Dutch national team like their father Marc, who is the country’s most capped player.

I lost 4st with a 5,000 calorie diet but was shocked when a nurse told me she ‘hopes I die of cancer’ as a result

A WOMAN who lost four stone through a whopping 5,000 calorie per-day diet was shocked to be told by a nurse she “hopes she dies of cancer”.

Rachel Ashby, 40, was at her heaviest five years ago, weighing in at 13.5 stone and wearing dress size 18.

The carnivore diet eliminates all plant-based foods and focuses on eating meat, fish, eggs and small amounts of low-lactose dairy foods[/caption]

During this time she suffered from bloating, brain fog, joint pain, dandruff, constant breakouts that left her unable to leave the house without makeup, and dry skin despite consuming what many would consider a healthy diet.

Realising something was wrong she switched to a ketogenic diet, which lasted only six months because despite just eating meat, fat and veg, Rachel was still struggling with the same symptoms she had before.

She saw lots of improvements on the keto diet but still struggled with bloating, brain fog, dry skin, joint pain and excess weight.

In April 2019, Rachel decided to try something new and switched to a fully carnivore diet, which works by eliminating all plant-based foods and solely eating meat, fish, eggs and small amounts of low-lactose dairy foods.

She ate up to four pounds of meat per day and ten eggs in one sitting, with all plant based foods completely eliminated for being “unhealthy” – a lifestyle choice deemed too carnivore-based for extreme online trolls.

Despite consuming 5,000 calories a day – twice the recommended 2,000 calorie diet for a female in the UK – Rachel lost four stone, but was shocked to be told by a vegan nurse she “hopes she dies of cancer” for her meat-eating choice.

The Health Coach and CEO of Tallow Glow from Hertfordshire said: “I stumbled across a doctor called Dr Shawn Baker. He was talking about anti-nutrients in vegetables and the side effects some people have from consuming them.

“He also regularly spoke about studies and data that backed up what he was saying. He would read stories of people that reversed their health issues by cutting out all plant foods and also sometimes jokingly making fun of vegans.

“I thought Dr Baker and all the carnivores were absolutely mad but it had planted a seed.

“I started to notice these side effects after eating vegetables. I had already cut out all sugar, processed food and junk six months before while on the keto diet.

“The more I listened, the more I noticed the negative side effects of all the plants I was consuming like asparagus, cauliflower, broccoli and so on.

“It was the day before my daughter’s birthday in 2019 that I decided to give it a try.

“I actually thought I would disprove the diet as I always thought that vegetables were so important.

“By day three I was convinced this is where good health is at as I felt a massive rush of energy.

“All remaining health issues were resolved/reversed very quickly . I lost 7lb in the first week and another 7lb the following week, I stopped worrying about the scale after that as I was happy with what I saw in the mirror and how I felt every day.

“I was severely depressed with bad anxiety before I changed my diet. It felt like I had become agoraphobic, I would make lots of plans but cancel them all.

Rachel Ashby

“I wouldn’t go anywhere where I could have bumped into somebody. I was ashamed of how I let myself go. I was literally existing, not living.”

Rachel is now in the best shape of her life having lost weight and eliminated all her health issues.

“Now my meals consist of only lamb, beef, chicken, rarely but sometimes pork,” shared Rachel.

“I eat 10 eggs plus butter per sitting.

“I like my red meat pink in the middle which is actually raw but I like it warm with a good sear.”

Once Rachel made the shift her health really started looking up and she didn’t have any side effects from switching her diet.

While the carnivore diet has caused some people to suffer from diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, constipation, headache, hydration issues from fluid loss, dizziness, fatigue and insomnia, these are temporary side effects while the body adapts to using a different energy source, said Rachel.

As a health and wellness coach, Rachel insists she is always looking after her body.

She does receive some hate online for telling her carnivore story, mostly from vegans, but most people are just in shock that a diet consisting of just meat, eggs and butter can be healthy when medical professionals often speak only of the dangers of these foods.

Read more on the pros and cons of the carnivore diet below…

Is the high-fat carnivore diet healthy?

Carolina Goncalves, Superintendent Pharmacist at Pharmica told Fabulous: “The high-fat carnivore diet, similar to the ketogenic diet, involves the consumption of animal-based foods, especially those containing high levels of fat, as well as other high-fat foods such as butter. The potential benefits of this diet include weight loss, reduced inflammation, and mental clarity.

“According to research, a high-fat carnivore diet may help with weight loss due to the reduced carbohydrate intake and the increased satiety from high-fat foods. This is because the body typically switches from using food as its primary energy source to fat when carbohydrates are limited (a process known as ketosis).

“Moreover, fats are more satiating than carbohydrates, meaning they can keep you full for longer. Therefore, eating a high-fat diet can help reduce overall calorie intake by making it less likely for the individual to eat more frequently.

“Regarding inflammation, omega-3 fatty acids found in fish and other seafood that can feature in a high-fat carnivore diet can potentially help reduce inflammation by incorporating into cell membranes. It is also thought that these omega-3 fatty acids could have anti-inflammatory properties and affect neurotransmitter functions that support serotonin and dopamine levels. This may help with anxiety and depression symptoms, although the research on this is unclear.

“Having said this, the high-fat carnivore diet can adversely affect the body in numerous ways. The exclusion of plant-based foods such as fruit and vegetables can lead to nutrient deficiencies and a lack of vitamins and minerals to support bodily functions. In addition, the high intake of saturated fats can increase LDL cholesterol levels which could result in cardiovascular issues. Finally, the lack of dietary fibre in a high-fat carnivore diet, due to the absence of fibrous plant-based foods, can lead to digestive problems such as constipation.

“Overall, even though there are a few benefits to the high-fat carnivore diet, the lack of key food groups and nutrients can lead to health problems. It is therefore recommended to have a balanced diet to ensure overall bodily health and function.”

Number of people homeless in Ireland hits record 15,378 high AGAIN amid new ‘spiralling out of control’ warning

THE number of people homeless in Ireland hit a record high again last month with 15,378 in living in emergency accommodation.

Homelessness is now 11 per cent higher than it was in the same month last year.

Figures released from the Department of Housing show that there are 10,725 adults living in emergency accommodation along with 4,653 children.

Opposition political parties and housing charities called for emergency action from Government to reverse the trend of rising homelessness.

CEO of the Dublin Simon Community Catherine Kenny said the homeless situation is “spiralling out of control” as she called for new measures.

The charity are calling for dedicated routes to be set up to prevent people falling into homelessness and a dramatic increase in the building of social housing.

The Salvation Army’s Erene Williamson said people living in their emergency accommodation are shocked at the lack of action from Government.

They said: “They are being told that homelessness is the country’s number one priority, yet our service users feel nothing is being done to help them take that vital next step towards independent living.”

Sinn Fein housing spokesman Eoin O’Broin warned that the homeless situation will only get worse if the government pushes ahead with cuts to the tenant in situ scheme which sees councils buy up homes where the landlord has decided to sell.

He said: “If Minister Browne proceeds with these changes even more people will be presenting to homelessness services in the coming months.

“Homelessness is at crisis levels. This is an emergency. We need an emergency response as repeatedly set out by Sinn Féin and others.

“Instead it appears the government intends to actually make things worse.”

Google shutting down app with 2025 death deadline revealed – and it means your iconic gadget will stop working FOREVER

GOOGLE is preparing to shut down an app that means an iconic gadget will no longer work.

The company is giving users until the end of the year – so you’ll want to act fast.

Screenshot
There’s a deadline fast approaching for former Google Stadia fans
Google
Screenshot
Google has confirmed that an important online app will shut down this year

It’s all linked to Google Stadia, which was a game streaming service that launched to the public in November 2019.

This allowed you to play games over the cloud using the internet and a Stadia joypad, giving you top-graphic titles without needing to own a physical console.

Sadly for gamers, the service was shut down on January 18, 2023, and a special app was release that would convert Stadia joypads into regular Bluetooth controllers.

However, that app will be killed off later this year, meaning Stadia joypads that haven’t been converted will become totally useless.

The online tool (here) lets you switch the Stadia joypad into something called “Bluetooth mode”.

That lets you use the joypad with other devices (even your phone) to play games.

But Google is only going to offer this service until the end of the year.

“Switch your Stadia Controller to Bluetooth mode to keep gaming wirelessly on your favorite devices and services after Stadia shuts down,” Google explains.

“You can switch to Bluetooth mode, check the controller mode, and check for Bluetooth updates until Dec 31, 2025.

“Once you switch your controller to Bluetooth mode, you can’t change it back to use Wi-Fi on Stadia. You can still play wired with USB in Bluetooth mode.”

Google Stadia first launched in closed beta in October 2018.

It would let you play a huge list of games online, with Google servers doing the hard work.

That meant it functioned like Netflix for video games: you’d stream the visuals over the internet, and your joypad movements would be beamed back to Google.

This would all happen in an instant, letting you play games as if you had a console.

Chromecast with Google TV streaming on various devices.
Google
Google Stadia would let you play games on almost any device[/caption]

It mean that you could play games on a wide range of devices, including TVs, iPhone and Android phones, and laptops – even if they didn’t have powerful gaming chips inside.

You’d be able to stream games in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second.

But Stadia faced stiff competition with rival services like Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming, Amazon Luna, Sony’s PlayStation Plus, and Nvidia GeForce Now.

Sadly Google decided that Stadia wasn’t popular enough with gamers.

HOW TO PAIR YOUR CONTROLLER WITH BLUETOOTH

Once you've converted the Stadia controller to Bluetooth Mode, you can then pair your joypad using Google's steps below...

“After switching your controller into Bluetooth mode, press and hold the ‘Y + Stadia’ buttons for 2 seconds to enter pairing mode,” Google explained.

“The status light will flash orange.

“Then, go to the device you want to play on and pair your controller in the settings.

“Once paired and connected, the status light on the controller will turn solid white.

“Congrats! You’re ready to start playing.

“The next time you turn on the controller, it should automatically connect to the last paired device.”

On September 29, 2022, Google announced the Stadia would shut down, and then killed it off just three months later.

Google refunded all purchases for the games and hardware, and released a tool to convert the Stadia controllers to regular Bluetooth joypads.

The tool was originally going to be shut down at the end of 2023, but its life has been extended several times.

Now Google says that it’s going to be killed off for good on December 31, 2025, so it’s important to convert your Stadia joypads before then.
